Around a year ago I bought a collection of 6 Proton's locally. 2 of them were tucked away on a farm, across a bridge, over a stream and a cow field and in a barn ... Mrs JC, recovering from the shock of the other 4 turning up last April, thought id forgot I needed to collect the other 2. Thankfully the team at JW Recovery in Boston reminded me that they were still there ... and so we went and got them. The video of us getting them out of the garage is on the channel HOWEVER - I HAD to jet wash it, just to see how bad it is underneath all the grime and see what we are working with!

You should of started on the roof Jon. A neighbour bought a bright red Proton saloon back in 1994 for his retirement, it outlasted him.
Ah if i was detailing it for a car show or washing it normally i certainly would do but this was just a bit of fun :) - wonder where it is now!
More content to film if you do roof last otherwise if you clean the roof first it will partially wash the sides as well.

He's been watching wd detailing 😂 they do this for affect, so it's more satisfying for the viewers to watch if they start on a small surface I.e the roof them it reuins the affect on the rest of the car

Just watched the dealer's sticker being revealed.....my brother-in-law's garage! The Cropleys had owned the family business, in Boston, for many years and only finally sold up last year.
Ah brilliant! Your BIL will know my Father then who was also motor trade locally all his life (Pete Coupland) - I have had a few Protons from Cropleys and have a fair few 'artifacts' too (Being Boston based myself) - I have also worked recently with the team at Drayton Motors to test drive a few vehicles. - thanks for watching

Long time no see proton saga, the one of the oldest memories, full respect to this car that can survives up until today. 🇲🇾
In Denmark, unfortunately, we never got Proton cars, but that is probably because Mitsubishi had a large market share here in the 80s and 90s with the models Colt, Lancer and Galant. It's a beautiful car and the front looks like an Alfa 164 in smaller format. You do a great job of preserving these cars.

I bought a new Lada Riva 1500E saloon in 1993, the dealership also sold Protons.
I remember the advertising slogan for them being, ‘Japanes technology, Malaysian style’.

These are meant to be disposable just like any 90’s family sedans. Seeing this getting cleaned warms my Malaysian heart though.
Also speaking from an Iswara Aeroback owner myself, I’m impressed there’s lack of the telltale “bubbly rot” that any old Saga gets over the years! Even with the decade old dirt and grime, there’s hardly any surface rust. Heck, even the rear spoiler didn’t crack.
That, along with the surprisingly decent interior just shows how much of a difference in climate can make or break cars. My Iswara Aeroback certainly didn’t age as well under the hot and humid Malaysian weather, and definitely slows personal efforts at restomodding mine. I’m curious to see your future plans with those babies after (hopefully) a new engine and a bunch of parts.

You should have seen the stuff coming out the bootlid afterwards! - Driveway is now filthy - im hoping the rain drains it off nicely

The condition of this 1.5SE is remarkable. The paint is remarkable. The louvers at aircond vent looks intact.
The head lights had their "Garnishing Stripes", those black stickers at the top of it. Malaysian versions of Iswara don't have them anymore after year 2002.
By the way are you keeping or selling off the car badges like "1.5SE" and the "Automatic"?

Hi Daniel! Love the name Swampy too! Yes a Rustival showing would be good BUT hopefully the Micra can make it - the other one you can see is the second car I picked up on the same day - its awaiting its fate too

Well sir, fyi I still own this badgers, but it's an aeroback model, registered on 1997, with 1 time replaced engine due I accidentally blown it, and I admit that was my fault because I skipped preheated engine at that morning 🤣
Boil a kettle for the bonnet once and the door twice take the door card off and push the dent out with your foot once u have made the door hot with the water. Do the bonnet with side of your fist 👊🏽 pinky first. Start with the biggest dent first

I'll bet that the inspector found a few interesting smells around that car!

Funny thing is I’m driving this car to uni everyday, but I’m using the manual version which is fun to drive. Also this car broke down at least 2 on the road to uni luckily all are after class. Its fun to see that the car that i daily others find it as treasures/content.

Tons of good parts on that to be removed! Remember; “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure”! I know having 3 older Volvo’s-it’s the stupid little things you can’t find-that clip, switch blank, switch, handle, bit of plastic trim etc. Also, I’d be taking all the glass! Oh; and I’d be saving the seats and the whole interior-no matter how dirty!

My dad px a mk 3 2.0 gl carpri t reg in 1992 for a h reg 1.3 proton in a gorgeous dark blue. Excellent car and went well but i know what one id rather have today ha

I believe these Proton cars used the same 1.5 mpi engine from the Hyundai Pony X2 of the same era... This was originally a Mitsubishi engine from the Mitsubishi Colt of the 1980's to early 1990's - My mum had a J reg 1991 Hyundai Pony x2 1.5 GSi auto (4 speed) and it was pretty quick for an automatic with only 81 hp ! Great car !
You're god damn right. Even the 2001 sonata used the same 4g63 motor as the 1995 Proton Perdana.

@@JonCoupland I remember it was a 1468cc 12 valve engine (which was very similar to some old Hondas) mounted transversely with the gearbox on the left hand side and the engine on the right when looking at the car whilst standing in front of it... All the very best of luck with saving all these Protons ! which were great cars during the early 1990's ! :)
that's Proton Saga with "Iswara", considering the facelift from 1st generation, nomally we just called it Iswara as short, but WOW, Proton Saga Iswara with a sunroof~~~~ which i dont remember Malaysia ever have this package.
