They’re too caught up into getting custom equipment. They should just use the American ford e series chassis that has AC which has been proven and get a respectable company like ultimaster to make a USPS mail truck body. Like the ford Ultimaster FFV. Instead they got to keep postponing time while designing some insane foreign make mail truck that doesn’t even exist yet and would cost a lot.
They really need to add ac Systems in all mail trucks just to keep workers safe. They work very hard just to deliver our packages we order online. Come on Government. Be fair
Wish they would do armored trucks. Most of us dont have AC, cant roll our windows down because theyre bullet proof and there arent any vents to let air in. So if its 110(Louisiana buddy) outside, its even more hot in the trucks. At least they have open windows.

I'd get chills in the heat of the Texas summer driving for USPS. A sign of heat exhaustion/stroke. That's one of many reasons I resigned. 12 yrs and still a sub! Customers don't realize what mail carriers go thru. Also, your tax dollars don't pay their wages! Look it up!
My dad is a mail carrier. He freezes a gallon on water overnight. The trick is to take a sip of cold water every 10 to 15 minutes. They water stays cold for a good four to five hours.

That’s why it’s lower priced compared to places like UPS or FedEx. USPS is entirely run privately but is classified as a government agency out of technicality. We even have our own president and the government does nothing for or against us. The government doesn’t tell us what to do and they don’t pay us. The internet is not always full of accurate information, especially first results on google.
I have grown up in the northeastern US my while life, so it doesn't quite get this hot. Even I have suggested to my mom taking a case or two of bottled water to the post office, to help the mail carriers stay hydrated during our short summer. However, she suggested placing one in our mailbox instead, and writing a note to our mail carrier saying, "thank you for all the work you do."

It’s not only dangerous for the postal workers inside of the truck, but for pedestrians on the outside as well. That kind of exhaustion/delirium weakens your senses and impairs your judgement. It’s just like drunk driving or falling asleep at the wheel.
Yes it is true. I am a mail carrier. I got abused this way for 13 years. It is lucky I am alive. It is sad, that this family had to go through this tragedy. She is not the only employee who has experienced it. I have seen it in the office I work in.

You're only allowed to drive with the door open if it's box to box and they're less than 20 ft from each other. But going through any form of intersection or being on a busy main road you're not allowed to and can get fired or at least pulled from the street and might be out for weeks to months without pay
The Government can pay millions to NASA......but it can sure ignore the safety of these mail carriers. I think it's time to rid all of them obsolete mail transport.....and update the carriers with modern day equip.
They give mail carriers saftey talks on how to prevent heat illness. That's it. That allows them to put the blame on the carrier and not fix the problems.
What the mail service needs to do, is install an AC and heat system in each of their trucks. Or replace the trucks with newer, and better ones with built in climate controls. I would hate to be a mail deliveryman and suffer the heat of these "metal boxes on wheels". Now I feel bad for the mail delivery people.
It's absolutely unconscionable the way management treats they're letter carriers and truck drivers. In my office alone I know of two incidents in which letter carriers were sent back out after coming in suffering from heat stroke one of which resulted in a death. OSHA has been called numerous times to my office and there's never any consequences for these people.
There's no A/C because management doesn't want the carrier to take cool down breaks. When I started carrying mail in '84 some of our vehicles were leased Pintos and Chevettes with the A/C compressors disconnected! Having been an A/C mechanic I reconnected mine only to get it back from a scheduled routine maintenance check disconnected again LOL!
I'm a carrier...most people have no idea how difficult our job is. Hours on the road...sweltering heat...having to pull over during extreme heat to vomit which for me is common...sad but true. Trucks run about 10 degrees hotter then outside...let's not leave out the hornets..wasps ..yellow jackets and spiders that call most mailboxes home. Good times

Even with all that and 30+ years of loyal service, my moms husband was set up 1 year before retiring to make it look as if he was stealing. From a rigged letter that was ALREADY opened with no delivery info, looked inside to find out what it was, saw a device in it, instantly knew what was coming, escorted by police after being enraged by the set up, lost his job, went to court, and got 2 years probation. Thank god the judge allowed him to keep all his benefits because im pretty sure thats what they were after. Thank you USPS.

It got to 118 last year in Phoenix. Those trucks could easily top out at 130+ degrees in direct sunlight. It dont get like that in southern states

Even with all that and 30+ years of loyal service, my moms husband was set up 1 year before retiring to make it look as if he was stealing. From a rigged letter that was ALREADY opened with no delivery info, looked inside to find out what it was, saw a device in it, instantly knew what was coming, escorted by police after being enraged by the set up, lost his job, went to court, and got 2 years probation. Thank god the judge allowed him to keep all his benefits because im pretty sure thats what they were after. Thank you USPS.
