SPCA: Dog Found Inside Abandoned LI House Looked Like ‘Old Mop,’ Could Barely Walk

- A dog is recovering after it was brought to a Long Island animal shelter in “horrible condition” last week, the Suffolk County SPCA said. A man found the Shih Tzu-type dog in an abandoned house in Lindenhurst and brought it to the Town of Babylon Animal Shelter on July 17, according to the organization. The dog was so matted and the nails so overgrown that the pooch could barely walk when it was brought to the shelter. CBS 2's Don Champion reports.

this is really sad but whats even sadder is that there are family members or even neighbors that stand by and do nothing about animal cruelty.
Your heart just breaks for this one. And what was underneath all that mess was just the cutest little poppet anyone would want. Hopefully it didn't take long to find him a good home 🙂

So bad to see a dear sweet dog so neglected , that isnt 6 months hair growth , its more like a couple of years ir mor , terrible way to treat a lovely dog , terrible way to treat any dog .

Horrible case of abuse. Hopefully the abuser will be caught and held accountable. Such a very special and cute doggie. The little one deserves a loving home. By now hope he has one. 🌹🌹🇺🇸

This is how bad my shih tzu rescue looked. He had to be sedated to cut his hair and nails. He now has gained 10 lbs. of muscle and sleeps in my bed with his adopted brother simon.

I can't watch any more of these video clips of mistreated animals. My heart so burdened that humans can neglect their pets till one cannot even recognise what it is. I love all my dogs and cats over the years and after they die, I can't bear to have any more now. I am not strong enough to lose any more of them.
I stay with friends and they adopted 2 shelter dogs. One was so abused, the dog really came out if his shell, when I moved in. He gets constant love and attention from me. Both dogs are my shadows. Love them to death!
Have you ever thought about helping out at an animal shelter? You get to be part of the solution, and even though they're not yours, I'm sure you'd have a lot of love to give them! 🙂
My husband & I are in our 60's and we foster homeless pets in our home so as to save them from hihg kill shelters. We too cannot bear to watch the mistreated animals on video or TV. It tears at your heart. I have not watched this yet but I sometimes will look at the end of a video to see the happy outcome.

The poor little baby,i took in a stray cat that had a small patch of matting on its back,it would not let ne brush it out so we took it to the vets for a minor haircut if the matting is left it can actually rip the skin,it is fery paizinful,some ppl are not fit to own a house spider....
The Internet allows us, with the click of a button... to view stories of cruelty. And, as a pet owner, I agree - they are often hard to watch, when I see what horrors people are capable of. BUT -- once seen, the public can help to bring these offenders to justice. They can lobby for stronger anti-cruelty laws. They can donate money to organizations that support rescue, care and re-homing of animals removed from terrible situations. And they can foster, and adopt as well. All of which is very positive. Thank-you, I never knew that scripture before. It's so true that the way we treat animals is the way we're prepared to treat other humans, too. I think that's one reason they're on this earth, they reveal our character. By the way, the Yorkshire vet was James Herriott, I believe I spelled that right, but definitely an 'e'.

How this poor dog was seen daily by hundreds of people who did nothing is equally as disgusting as the owner's negligence. Karma will bite them I hope!
fine then lock them up throw away the 🔑 law need to change make people register their dog with the city state wide with a chip if they don't report dog lost are stolen held them fully responsible. for the 🐕.
mrsstrawberryluv1 here in the UK we used to have a licence system. I'll never understand why our government did away with it! I agree there should be some kind of registration or record; it would remind people of their responsibilities
I can't believe we've bred these dogs for our own amusement who cannot survive without human intervention because their own hair prevents them from walking... this is actually a common sight on many of the youtube dog rescue channels

I can understand your anger, but it may be these were people with, shall we say, incapabilities. There are people who just don't understand what they're doing; let's hope that was the case here, and not deliberate neglect.
