    On this mini-sode of 'Inside The Mavs' I examine the NBA MVP candidacy of Luka Dončić as the tries to win his first career NBA MVP for the Dallas Mavericks. I take a look at the numbers and break down the flaws of the voters as they look to decide who the NBA MVP between Dončić, Nikola Jokić and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander all of whom are worthy candidates for this year's award. I break down how the Mavericks winning has turned this into a very close race and no matter what happens the groundwork has been laid for future MVP discussions for Dončić as Dallas has had an incredible season worthy of him being in the talk of the local and national media for the MVP. Plus Kyrie Irving weighs in on Luka's chances to win the award and what he has meant for the Mavericks and more!

    This debate is ridiculous, if Luka doesn't get the mvp I'll never respect the award again. It will no longer be awarded to the leagues best player which is hands down Luka, and should be called mfp (media's favorite player) instead. Noone has done what luks has this year....EVER!!

    The oldies (former NBA players -mostly black) led by Arenas are hating on him. They can’t believe that a non-athletic white european kid is dominating the league and due to sign an extension that will be the biggest contract ever.

    Kev, this is one thing I would say if I was arguing with someone. Luka has a high or higher output than Jokic but also carries a way higher offensive burden. He uses was more energy than Jokic because he also carries the additional responsibility of running the point.

    Luka with a chip on his shoulder might be the scariest words in the NBA. He’s going to take out his frustration in the playoffs. Odds are, they’re going to meet Denver and think he’s going to make a BIG statement if that happens. I can already hear the Dallas fans chanting MVP that whole series.

    The argument for Jokic I keep getting when I say Luka is MVP is that Jokic has a higher efficiency % and higher +- numbers. And a higher seed. And he’s got Kyrie. I’m sorry but those numbers don’t convince me. Luka is breaking NBA records.

    MVP is Luka, & per MVP historical voting it’s Luka 💯 percent!! If not goal posts have been moved!!

  • @AnthonyWilliams840
    @AnthonyWilliams840 2 месяца назад +5

    The only thing these voters care about is Efficiency. That's the cold hard truth of it. And Jokic dominated PER for his 1st & 2nd MVP, and this year he's top PER again, hence why he'll win the 3rd.
    But it's such a warped way of thinking, and undermines the whole narrative arguments that get thrown at Luka for why he shouldn't win MVP.
    Mavs & Luka had more wins in 21-22 regular season than Jokic & Nuggets, yet Jokic won MVP. Then SAS threw out his stupid comment about Luka & Mavs fighting for the 5th seed in the West this season, despite Luka putting up historical numbers, and the Mavs having another 50 win season (with a better record than No.2 seed Bucks) when almost every major analyst and expert predicted them not to even make the PLAY-IN!
    How can you look at the precedent set by Westbrooks' MVP in 2017 (which he too had the highest efficiency rating that year) & Jokic in 2022, and then create the exception that because Luka has a lower efficiency rating, he doesn't deserve it despite Luka having better numbers and the Mavs having more wins than both those respective MVP winners' teams? Because the whole point of Westbrooks' & Jokics' respective MVP awards is that THEY WERE EXCEPTIONS in those seasons! So why is Lukas' 23-24 season an exception AGAINST winning the MVP award????
    And since the seeding argument is so coincidentally important for Lukas' MVP campaign, that's another comparative factor. Westbrook & Jokic were both on Western Conference teams when they won MVP. Why do you then award MVPs to Westbrook & Jokic for finishing 6th with their teams, when Luka & the Mavs 23-24 season record is better than the No.2 seed Eastern Conference team in 23-24, when not even Westbrooks' OKC & Jokics' Denver teams couldn't do that in their MVP years (Cavs 51-31 in 16-17, Boston 51-31 in 21-22)????
    There has to be a complete reset of the way MVP is awarded because it's clear some of these voters don't have a clue what they're saying or are even WATCHING the games, and are bending over backwards to create false exceptions to deny a legitimate MVP winning campaign.

      You should get a vote. Damn! You dismantled every b.s. reason he didn't get it! 🎉🎉 I want to post this comment everywhere for every Jokic and SGA fan! I think Luka is in 3rd. It's wild he's behind SGA.

    • @AnthonyWilliams840
      @AnthonyWilliams840 2 месяца назад +1

      @@jdrgamer27 Thanks man! And I respect both Jokic & SGA’s seasons. They’ve been phenomenal. But Luka has broken records, put up numbers we’ve never seen before, he forced the media into a “defence is finished in the NBA” agenda after his 73 game only week after Embiid had 70 (with none of the same agenda following his game), whilst missing a lot of his supporting cast this season (which coincidentally is another big reason Jokic was MVP in 22 with Murray missing all of 21/22). Even in all the advanced metrics (which Jokic is 1st in all major categories), Luka is in the top 5.

    • @jdrgamer27

  • @michaelmo1977

    Advanced analytics are killing the MVP discussion. From my understanding, Jokic's VORP would be much higher because he is a center and his stats are going to be much higher than other centers because he plays like point guard. If you're comparing him to an average replacement center of course his replacement value would be higher because other centers aren't getting assists. That stat should be thrown out the window.

  • @countfloydschillerhorrorth2090

    its because they don't go deep enough. If the didn't have a ton of injuries in the first half of the season they would be right there for the best record in the west.
    Also luka has had around 125 games where only the (expected) starting 5 played together. To put it in context
    SGA has 700 plus minutes played with the expected starters.
    Jokic has over 800.
    This starting 5 of the mavs now(and even before the TDL) was dominant. Based off of this. You could make a strong argument they have the best record not only in the west but also more than Boston.

    If his name was Anthony Edwards or whoever they'd talk about him like 2nd coming of jesus ffs 😂
    He is breaking records all season, posting insane numbers, getting W's and now we're gonna give it to Jokic who doesnt want it + they fucked up cause he didnt get it last year. Are the voters as blind as the thunder fans? 😂😂

    Luka has elevated a team of basically role players until Kyrie came, a team which wasn’t able to make it on their own, plus he has more than half the credit for making Kyrie be a great fit in Dallas , after every one knows things weren’t that good for him, it wasn’t KD nor The Beard who help Kyrie fit in, it was Luka, the one who every one said it wasn’t going to make it. That’s Valuable Value

    NBA change the poll is ridiculous. When Jokic became MVP he was just a 6th seed, reason it's because of his stats. When Embiid became MVP, it's because of stats. Then this season they can't give to Luka even with real MVP numbers. Jokic 25ppg and 12rpg is nothing stellar. The reason they are giving it to him because he led Nuggets to 1st championship. Is Jokic at par with Bird or Magic and deserves 3rd MVP? No.

    Excellent points as usual Kevin. I have heard a lot of discussion regarding this topic the past 2 years and have wondered. especially the past couple months what IS the criteria for selecting an MVP in NBA. Besides the 65 games played bench mark that is posted on the NBA web site I do not see any other guidance. It is (in my estimation) a panel selected by the NBA (mostly if not all journalists) that EACH have their own, subjective criteria for selecting the MVP for that season.
    If this is true it is just another biased, subjective, arbitrary process of selecting someone who may of may not really be qualified to win the title. If there was a clear process or check list for who wins the nomination, followed by other criteria in case more than 1 player achieved those criteria (which is most certainly expected) I would have more confidence and frankly INTEREST in who wins it. As it stands now I see a flawed system that does not provide a fair, equal opportunity for the best of the best of this association to be recognized.
    All of that said, I feel like local media members have done all they can to make the case that Luka should win the title this year! Your video highlighting Luka's numbers, accomplishments is VERY insightful and well presented (as well as a few others I have seen on You Tube).
    I hope Luka can get his MVP one day but I agree with you Kevin I believe that the media (the majority of them) have already made up their mind so I guess congrats to Joker on winning it again?
    yawn
