Progressive means being advanced at playing instruments and being able to put together complex arrangements with other musicians in a band so Led Zeppelin is considered to be progressive compared to anything now but maybe not back then because they were compared to all the other greats like Yes, Pink floyd, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Emerson lake and Palmer and The Who etc... And there are different kinds of what progressive is like those who just sound progressive because of what they use as far as the technology that was available in those times but you have to be able to use that technology well progressively you can't just have an organ, synthesizer, drums, guitar, bass and flute ext... and say that your progressive just because you have those instruments but the members of the band can't really play them that well to be considered progressive, for instance you can't just sit there and play the same two or three bar chords on the guitar all day. You have to be able to play them well under the structure of music theory. So now having heard all that go through the different artists that you know and decide who you think is a progressive artist because progressive is subjective to what you think progressive is and if a band is more advanced than others and what instruments their using combined with how well they play them and mix them together with other musicians in complex arrangements like organized chaos (Syncopated beats) under the structure of music theory.
@@LewDanLascivious8276 Yes, and I am very glad you mentioned The Who, they were definitely progressive, especially their masterpiece album ''Quadrophenia'' is in my opinion the very best progressive rock album from a band that is not commonly deemed this genre. Even bands like Rush, and countless other prog bands were inspired by The Who.
But brainwashed as hell. When Thom Yorke was told how progressive Radiohead sounds, he replied something along the lines of "we all fucking hate progressive rock"
I love 70’s Priest and Scorpions. They both went on two great success streamlining their approach in the 80’s, but I wish they both spent a little more time embracing their prog influences. Maiden struck a good balance between incorporating prog into their straight ahead metal style

Great picks overall, although Contact is a bit of an odd choice for Daft Punk over something like Touch or Giorgio By Moroder which seem more proggy to me.
Not sure what you are considering prog rock or prog rock bands. So in my opinion Queen had quite a few songs that would be considered prog rock (odd time signatures/compound time signatures i.e. King Crimson or Yes). Additionally I would throw Radiohead into the prog rock genre.. I’d also argue that the Beatles were moving into a more progressive format to compete with the likes of Crimson, Pink Floyd and Yes. The 70’s were great times for prog rock!! I do appreciate seeing Iron Maiden on the list, Powerslave is a personal favorite for so many reasons and Rime is one of my all time favorites! Thanks for the list, I’d be curious to see a follow up! Thanks again for putting this together and putting yourself out there!!🤟
I wish people made more videos like this because young rock nerds want to categorize and organize rock music to hell so every song or band gets neatly tied to a style mish mash or cliche when I believe that a lot of popular music can be labeled as "progressive" on occaisons when it attempts and succeeds at having more dramatic and vast musical ambitions-even for one song
great list. thanks. i thought of a few more. terrapin station, grateful dead. rainbow children, prince. all i can do, savroy brown. second skin, widespread panic. angel, joe jackson. kitty's back, bruce springsteen. it's a star-beanie g and the rose tattoo, hall & oats. modern times, al stewart. funeral 4 friend/love lies, elton john.
What's Prog about Jesus of Suburbia? It's just 5 unfinished songs put together. That's not enough to make it Prog. However, I like the inclusion of Lonesome Crow by the Scorpions. Definitely not a Prog band in general, but this song and also Fly To The Rainbow certainly have a lot of Prog elements.
A mi me gusta considerar "Teeth" de "Cage the Elephant" como una cancion de Prog. Ya que CTE no es una banda de prog Para nada, y Teeth parece encajar con una cancion de prog. Pero no estoy seguro
Title - "Another top 20 (progressive rock songs) from (non progressive rock bands") Does this title make any sense to you? If they're non progressive rock bands then how can they be progressive rock songs to begin with?
No Quarter is one of the most prog sounding songs from Led Zeppelin, I agree with this.
In the light too

Quadrophenia is phenomenal in the studio production-wise and instrumentally very progressive.👍😂
@@LewDanLascivious8276 Indeed. Who's Next album comes pretty close, but yea Quadrophenia will always be my #1 from them.
To be honest, Queen was a prog band for their original four albums. It was later that they went full pop.
My favorite type of list for sure. Already waiting for another
I think that Muse and Radiohead are quite progressive bands.
But brainwashed as hell. When Thom Yorke was told how progressive Radiohead sounds, he replied something along the lines of "we all fucking hate progressive rock"
Muse are fine with them being classified prog
No
Queen was just straight up a prog band for their formative years
I love 70’s Priest and Scorpions. They both went on two great success streamlining their approach in the 80’s, but I wish they both spent a little more time embracing their prog influences. Maiden struck a good balance between incorporating prog into their straight ahead metal style
Halo of flies by Alice Cooper is definitely prog and a great song. Big hit in the Netherlands once.
"Funeral for a Friend" Elton John
"Odessa" Bee Gees
Bee Gees was really great in 60s
Funeral for a friend was featured in an earlier video

Coloratura (Coldplay) is pretty good
Has some Camel and Yes vibes, specially Song Within a Song and To Be Over
1:26 what if psychedelic rock became prog rock?
Atleast Uriah heep was on the list
Great picks overall, although Contact is a bit of an odd choice for Daft Punk over something like Touch or Giorgio By Moroder which seem more proggy to me.
I would add The Soft Parade by The Doors

1:58 - The album is called Powerslave but that's not the band's name.
Innuendo is Queen's best!
Even better because of Steve Howe from YES providing the flamenco guitar section.
@@lopolik I didn't know he participated
@@Petrus_Roma Yea he did, the acoustic guitar in the middle of the song was all him.
And Freddie Mercury liked it in his behind.
"in yer end OH!"😱😂🤣
It is a superb album, but spoilt by some sloppy production values, unfortunately.
Volunteers by Jefferson Airplane sounds like a prog rock
Víctimas of changes,Judas Priest y No Quarter y Kashmir,Led Zeppelin,magníficas.Tambien Abbey Road,The Beatles,inmensos.Buenisimo.

paranoid android is alternative rock, experimental rock but long
New Grass is my favourite song of all time!
Grande salishury. Hay quien los pone como progresivos.
No Bohemian Rhapsody again?
Not sure if it counts
At least we have their real Prog masterpiece, Innuendo
I wouldn’t call it prog
I think it's excluded also because the song would get the video taken down, but I think Prophet's song and Innuendo were good choices as well.
@@lopolik yeah you're right
I Want You (She’s So Heavy) should have been here
Thats more proto-metal than prog I think
A day in the life top 1 and top 1 of all genres

Caberia várias canções do Uriah Heep.
Where’s Homecoming?
imagine thinking post-rock and prog are the same...

Green Day.. really?
Kashmir is not prog... Either Mariner... In the Light and Infinite Dreams would have been better choices.
