I’ve had both. Only major difference is if your going to use it for video work I would go with the Sony. If your going to use it for photos there exactly the same. Buy them used you’ll save money
I've had the Sigma 35 1.4 DG DN since it was released. I had purchased the 35 GM a few weeks earlier and decided to return it and save the $$. I have not regretted it one bit (I also, own the new 24 1.4 DG GN and the 85 1.4 DG DN; the only GM I own is the 135).
@@jvincents I recently picked up the Samyang 135mm 1.8 AF for $725 at B&H. The IQ was outstanding, but the build quality was not for me. It felt like a cheap plastic toy with almost no protection for my sensor at the gasket area. I’m going to save up an purchase the Sony 135mm GM instead. I need to be confident when shooting for payed clients that my gear is solid. I return the Samyang for a full refund, I really love B&H! I
Visually the difference is pretty imperceptible. The bigger decision is how much does one value the size/weight savings on the Sony GM. It's more expensive but lighter. I have the GM and love it but if Sigma had this 1.4 available when I was in the market I would've gone for Sigma and saved about $500 which you could put towards another lens. Maybe the Sigma 50mm DG DN if they ever finish making it ;)
Given we're watching this on RUclips it might have been useful had you shared your experience with these two lenses. I watched this on a calibrated 4K monitor but hearing first hand from the photographer would have been meaningful.
The Sony GM is a bit more sharp. Both great lenses, Can’t go wrong with either one. However my choice would be the GM because of the weight difference.
Love the Vid Bro! I have Used Both and I went For Sigma to justify the Performace/Price Ratio as you can never go Wrong With The Two it all ends up On What Works For You.
Tried both, but went with the GM (Although I am usually a Sigma fan boy). Nothing between them really, although, I do find the skin tones from the Sony to have more of a red hue. My decision was purely based on build quality, which felt superior on the GM to me.
I was looking exactly for a comment like yours. Thanks! How do you see the combination between Sony and Sigma in your combo? I´m looking for the 50mm. 1.4 of Sigma but also for the 35mm 1.4 GM Sony and i don´t know if it´s gonna be problematic in post (specially for the tone difference between them...) Thanks in advance!
It's personal taste but I like the look of the RAW versions better. Besides that, no real difference between the two lenses. And perceivable difference in sharpness at that level is overrated. Thanks for the video!
There is not really much of a difference there. The Gm is a tad sharper but nothing to justify the price difference. The size of the sigma might be the deciding factor to pick sony though
I waited until those sales were on in Brisbane and snagged a new Sony 35mm f/1.4 GM at about 1500 almost a year ago. Went the GM because of the size and weight.
Don't you feel they have both too.much sharpness and contrast for very close up portraits? There is also f/2 version, and there s no huge difference between f2 and f1.4
Hello, Mitch☺ I was wondering in which mode did you do this shooting and what setting was here ? I’ve noticed that on 4:19 and 4:52 bokeh have “distortion”. The shape of bokeh looks like half cuted. The same effect is on Sony a7c when shooting in ECF mode, because a7c only has Electronic Curtain Shutter. Did you shoot in EFCS ? Was it over 1/1000 shutter speed ? Manny Ortiz also made a video about this “Why you SHOULDN'T use the ELECTRONIC SHUTTER for PORTRAITS!” Would love to hear your opinion and experience on this 🫶
I have the original version of the sigma 35 1.4 which is a great lens but struggles tremendously with backlit subjects and overall contrast at 1.4. Plus its HUGE so I’m excited to upgrade to the DG DN version. Also I started using narrative select based on your recommendation and man is it a time saver. Preciate ya Mitch! Come to Texas
I do this too BUT why do we always compliment foliage, leaves, wall but not the person were taking photos of. "leaves are cool, so awesome, good job leaves"

I hope you can help me with the answers... Thank you :-) 🙏
Sony A7 IV all day. The first and third party lens options are abundant. I first started my career with all Sigma and Tamron lenses to save money. I just now started getting several GM’s like the 35 and 24 recently and love them. Get the GM’s open box if you can from Adorama or B&H, you will save hundreds and still have the full Sony warranty.
И в чем смысл обзора? Чувак показал бэки со съемки. Молодец, но мы то ждем твоего мнения. Что со скоростью фокусировки, в чем отличия и тд, кому подойдет тот или иной объектив?
"Hey, RUclips viewers, watch me hold the camera for the worst stability! Do what I do, and then when you wonder why your pictures aren't tack sharp. go work out so your arms are as strong as mine!" Mitch, you can be better than this, it is an ergonomically poor way to hold a camera.
@@MitchLally Yes, *yours* are, but the people who watch you probably aren't, because they don't have your experience. Also, in the prime vs zoom challenge you did a year ago with your buddy Carlo, when your lens was 1 1/3 stops slower but you had to crank up your ISO by about 4 stops, it's because of camera shake when you hold it away from your body. It's physics, torque and rotational angles. If you want a tutoring session on it, I'm available.
I was hoping to see your experience and preferences on both

No no no. You need to give us your thoughts. Seriously. I want one of these lenses but you have to hint on which one you preferred shooting.

35mm GM def sharper based on those RAWs

i really like the Sigma, thats the one i would chose
This felt like a vintage Mitch Lally video. Loved the vibe! Great work.

I thought the same. Strait out of cam was great looking.
a new pretty model 🙀 cool, great shots!

Honestly both looked great. Probably just comes down to budget 🤷🏻♂️
Love this video my Lallyb🤍
Go team 😍 Maria and Gerard. Love the white dress shots. Would love to try the sigma! ✨

Yes, that setting was definitely turned on.
In think the real differences are size and price. I went with the 24 1.4 sigma dg dn instead, to complement my 85 Sigma. Both are a bit smaller.

Great shoots with an amazing model. :-)
Awesome vid, could u try one with the sigma18-35 f1.8
And the comparison?
I do this too BUT why do we always compliment foliage, leaves, wall but not the person were taking photos of. "leaves are cool, so awesome, good job leaves"
I have both sony and tamron. In my opinion, I think the Tamron is better
I wish I had the Sony because it’s smaller but I bought the Sigma.
such a great video Mitch !!! these are so soft and dreamy 😍
beautiful model
Thanks. Honestly, I think in that environment I would be shooting with a 50 or an 85 or both, not a 35. No?
Why?
@@MitchLally To me, the perspective of the 50 and the 85 are more pleasing. But, yes, I know, I am being narrow. There is room for all of it.
They’re very close I actually liked the Sigma a bit better and I have the Sony GM 😂

Please increase the exposure level on your videos
would of preferred more talking and hearing thoughts from experience.
I dont like your Lightroom processing. Image looks better unedited((
