Chuck Jordan is the man I owe the key guidance to start my career as an automotive designer. He spent his valuable time and through his valuable advice i went ahead.I will always feel I was lucky for the attention he so kindly gave to me back in 1982,when i was a young student.I am proud that I proved him right.A hero for the automotive design profession and a great human being.Nice to see him again.Thank you for sharing this.I miss him,and our whole profession misses him too.
Chuck Jordan is brilliant, the right-hand assistant of Harley Earl at Cadillac and GM from 1949 to 1959 when Harley retired. Then Chuck worked with Bill Mitchell in the 1960s.
Chuck Jordan also had a hand in the Fiero. He was not a fan of ant-eater front ends. Twice, he asked the Pontiac studio to shorten the snout until the car reached the right proportions. The result was superb ....until the GT appeared.
Coach Builders at Body by Fisher nobody gave the world more models options and innovations than the American automotive designers engineers and manufacturers. No one will ever match it.
Dennis: know you have history with Opel GT. Ever check out first Gen Manta? Just a slick designed car and was great to hear from gent that was part of it. Great segment.
Also, I was the first like and comment. I didnt put this as the main comment because I actually enjoyed (and at the point of writing this still am) the video. It's not all about being first, its about watching the content you enjoy. Now, keep watching the video, and if you have already watched it, I hope you enjoyed it.
GM stopped building great vehicles around 1969…. I had a 66 Toronado, and 69 Eldorado , loved them both 😮 my dad was a designer for GM for 35 years.. first project he ever worked on was the 1959 el Camino, he worked at the Tech center in Warren Michigan. GM sent him all over the world 🌎 I even got to go to Italy 🇮🇹 because he extended his work into a family vacation 😂
Great interview! I disagree on the '91-'96 Caprice. I love the design very much. It was a winner for sure. The last of the great full-size Chevy sedans and wagons.
I liked the 91 caprice and still do, the interior is what they have been embarrassed about. It was like they designed the car and day before production they all looked around and asked each other "who did the interior"? Then they threw in a steering wheel and gigantic speedometer and shipped it!
Superb interview! Watching prior videos on Harley Earl and Bill Mitchell and then to Chuck Jordan makes me sad to see the complete garbage dump that GM has become style-wise. I don't think they even require working eye sight at GM these days and you don't have to have any talent or imagination either. Just throw some poo against the wall/paper and you are a GM designer in this post-bankruptcy era.
57' Chevys still looked better than the 57' Plymouths and both Chevy and Ford way outsold the 57 Ply. Ford outsold Chevy by just about 1000 units. Ply. came nowhere near Ford and Chevy. 57 Chevy still King today!
Virgil Exner had some ugly ass designs. 1957 was his best year, by 59' he was done. Chrysler fired him in the early 60s and hired Ford's Elwood Engle who finally got Chysler on track with the beautiful 64-66 Chrysler Crown Imperials.

Jordan was clearly a solid guy that everyone would want on their team. Dignified, humble, innovative.
Excellent interview. Chuck Jordan has some wonderful designs.

This guy is all class.
Awesome interview, thanks. Chuck hired me out of Art Center and was one of the most influential people in my career. What a guy.

Great interview. Thanks for keeping it serious and devoid of any foolishness.
Thank you Dennis have a great weekend sir
Always been fascinated by auto design, this was so interesting. Amazing that GM had the 63 Stingray AND Riviera. Two of my favorites.
I agree Paul
Awesome history lesson. Thank you 🎉
This is a Master Class

True.
I was studying transportation design at CCS-College for Creative Studies Detroit when Chuck Jordan was chief
woah! Always wanted to go to CCS but ended up getting my Mechanical Engineer degree because how competitive CCS was and my limited art portfolio.

I have a 1996 Caprice Classic - I also thought it was a horrid-looking Car when I first saw it ! After 7 years of Tweaks, today I love it .
@17:00Those 50s 2 door Chrysler 300 D are some of the most beautiful cars ever. Love Pears fuel injected.

Opening up the rear wheel wells on the Caprice reminds me of what Harley Earl did with the great looking, imho, 55 Buicks.

Blame the federal government for the designing. There are so many restrictions put on them that there is little room for creativity.
Probably upper management’s fault.
All car and suv profiles are the same today.
HUGE APV fan
1992 chevy suburban was designed by chuck jordan
The Olds Aurora was definatly one of the nicer looking cars from that dim era in GM Automotive history.
@27:22 Good Ole Ralphy.
THE malaise era designer at GM
Yep me too I started selling when I was old enough
8:45 But the 57' Ford Ranchero, came out before the Chevy El Camino. Beat it by 2 years.
Funny ! the best looking and most Valuable cars have already been made ( Mclaren F1 exception )
Could Bill Mitchell draw and sketch?

Ferrarri's never impressed me.
So hand built cars didn't impress you 🤔
@@motogeee510 Ferrari's don't impress me. Hand built or not.
