Hi. Back in 80’s 90’s western calves came to Ont. by the train loads and we paid anywhere from 85 cents to a dollar for good calves and used to think then that prices were awfully high, times have changed.Thanks.🐂🐂

Hey there Tyson. Prices seem to get a little better every week. I was gonna feed my heifers, but they are leaving Monday. First winter I won’t be backgrounding calves. Did buy a bunch of breds at Clyde’s last sale. Clyde has one of the nicest loadouts of any auction barn I’ve taken the cattle pot into. Lots of room for this farmer trucker to get around.

Very cool about going to the same hotel for that many years and keeping the tradition alive. I enjoy going to the cattle auction even if I don’t have any calves to sell. Our sale barn has the best lunch deals around and they make a great cheeseburger 😊. Happy you got a good price on your calves. Makes the trip even better

Dad got rid of his purebred Hereford herd in 2002 because of the drought and we went straight grain farming, and it wasn’t a decision he took lightly. 20 years later I decided to seed a half section to pasture and another quarter to hay although the vast majority of my land is and will be in crop. I thought it would be a nice side project for the farm to get back into cattle now that I don’t have an off farm job anymore because of buying a few quarters here and there over the past ten years. As I was refencing and building new corrals and fixing up the old barn I thought “what the hell did I get myself into here?”
Glad I stuck it out. My herd is small only 45 pairs but I did well this November. And I think my plan to get into cattle was well timed.

Blue tongue Virus (serotype 3) I do question the sanity of governments as the spread in Europe is thought to have come from midges hitching a ride on cut flowers from the areas of Africa where it is endemic. How much of it is proven and how much is conspiracy theories I have no idea but given the last two times we have had foot and mouth it has been from the military due to budget cuts buying in tainted meat from Brazil where it was endemic at the time as it was cheaper due to that fact and because a worker at a government facility couldn't be bothered to dispose of a live sample properly and instead washed it down the sink kind of taints the image especially with the actions of the same party now in that I think they are as popular in rural areas as Trudeau is in rural Canada.
