That is too cold for these old bones. I like how the cows are just lying there when you walk around them. They don't seem to mind the cold as long as they have bedding and some hay to eat. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
That's a cold winter scene, Tyson! Good on you to be out there in the middle of the night checking on everyone! It's not easy being a good farmer!! Stay as warm as you can out there! 😀
I’m glad it’s you living there Tyson I had no bad cold let alone snow my cattle just roamed free and calved without problems cheers from Bundaberg Australia
Good luck calvingTyson! Those little buggers are worth a fortune! You are a better man than me...calving outdoors in those temperatures..but you do a great job!
G day Tyson I had to laugh when u yawned I remember many many yrs ago in barn & laid down beside cow , nice & warm Sounds good in bush Yes neighbour said he got 4000 for 1100 lbs. Well prices hve to come down ???? Good nice feeling everything is good Ths Yes this week here in Ont, suppose to get cold. My breathing can't take that
Howdy, I hope ya'll are doing well up north during these cold temperatures, You didn't mention that one calf that took 5 days to figure out how to suck, has scours, I'm sure you've already started treatment, how long has he had the scours ?? and what treatment are you using ?? We don't start calving till mid March, to make it easier on the calves, and warmer temperatures, I suppose you calve a lot sooner because you have a lot of other things going on in March.. Stay safe, God Bless and Farm on my Friend
600 lb steers $5 lb at Clyde last week. Hope we skip this tariff stuff, but I’d like to buy some more cattle too, so tariffs in the short term might help me. Rough on the guys that never sold yet if it happens.
@ I was pretty ecstatic with prices we got in December, but that is next level there. Even if we don’t get tariffs, I think they’ll drop back a hair. Can’t see where a guy can make anything feeding them out, even with hedging feed and market insurance. But it is neat to see them hit those highs. Wonder how the breds will sell next week, if they hold up.
Hahaha…! had to chuckle when you mentioned the temperature difference…, can you really tell the difference between -23 and -30…? Question sir (or for anybody here), why are the newborn calves kept separated from their moms until feeding time…?
@greggb1416 oh yea..I can tell..the air is crisper..it is definitely colder. If the cows stayed inside all the time...it gets way to hot inside...and the cows usually want to go outside after awhile. The pens get really dirty to. As soon as the calfs are a few days old they can handle the cold
@ Ha…, I was kinda being a smart Alec on the temps thing. And thank you for the response back on the cow/calf separation. I did note frozen condensation on the interior walls…, those cows are like little steam boilers on four legs…
Your cows are extremely calm and relaxed, great Job!! You can definitely tell they are well looked after
I've heard that lots
Hard to go back to sleep after being out in the cold. Wish you a smooth calving season stay safe.

He doesn't have scours??
Why can’t you breed the cows such that they calf later in the year, spring or summer?
That's not the right time period...we are planting and making hay in summer. Don't want to be calving out in the pastures
We always had some short ear calves.
Good luck rest of calving, i dont see rariffs changing anything, US market is strong right now too
We will soon see
How many cow's do you have. .?
170 ish
Stay warm!
I try
Roads were sure 💩 for sure. South wind right now, but it didn’t feel too nice out yet. Hopefully nice tomorrow like the weather guessers claim.
@chadtosh6831 cold right now...27 here..but shoots right up to minus 6 tomorrow
The weather here is calling for 13deg tuesday with 6 inches of snow.
It's warmed up here a bit today
Good stuff

Scratch calves flank when in position to suck
Why don’t you keep the cows with the calves
@gordharasen2581 they have to go eat and drink and the pens get to dirty...plus the cows want to get out of there.
