PETER WEST Just saw your reply. I'm now suscribed to your channel. I don't know much about promoting videos on youtube, but it's a crime that your page views aren't in the multi-thousands. Keep at it and know that there are people out here that really like it. I've seen many boogie woogie piano videos and yours are amongst the very best. Boogie woogie and blues are my go-to favorites. You are in the UK, yes? If you're ever in Texas (USA), tell me where you are playing. Best regards.
PETER WEST So you're saying I'm gonna have to travel across the pond to hear you play live? It's been on my bucket list to see the land of my grandparents in London and Belfast. For now I'll enjoy the videos. Keep them coming. Best Regards.
Great playing, and I Hawe a questersen .Did you play With your thumb left hand both D and E when you comp in the beginning of you base I mean you alter bet win D and E? Or used you 4 finger to D, and tumb to E.Thanksfull if you may answer me.And I look forward to hear from you more piano pices!
Bernt Klingvall Hi. Thanks for your interest. I assume you are from Germany? There are some good boogie men in Germany. Everybody does these boogie things differently, depending on the size of your hands and what feels most comfortable. I am using only my little finger on G and 1st finger on D and E alternating. Sometimes I might use my thumb but not often. Maybe just when I'm tired and need a change. It is just the way I have always done it. I have been playing for 55 years and I do this music by instinct and automatically, not often using the correct fingers like you would play classical music. It's just what feels easiest for me. Peter
Why should this be New Orleans piano? Joe Liggins, on whose composition this number is based, lived most of his life at the west coast, and originally came from Oklahoma.
The original was a different rhythm, feel, and sound. This is a boogie version similar to Mac Rebennac. And then I put this Professor Longhair type rhythm and feel into it. It isn't a copy of any particular version. It is a composite of various different versions and Ive never heard it like this anywhere else. The piano incorporates the original theme and whole thing is in the same vein as the aforementioned artists who are 110% New Orleans in style. ie. It is N.O. kind of style.
