hearing the story, I'm really happy for you. I've been following this on the side and DAYUM it's been a ride. As a content creator- *WOW!* I've had _MANY_ copyright strikes with _NO_ information for the strike, yet I had to resolve things myself. The fact that a RUclips person stepped in, a company known for NEVER really getting involved with this stuff is something to really take notice of. Copyright on RUclips has always been in favour of companies, yet the negative backlash on RUclips because of it _may_ be swaying things for change.
CreepsMcPasta Yeah, I've gotten a takedown notice from Hasbro on my unaffiliated VA reel even though it had absolutely no actual characters in it - just original voices. Guess one of 'em sounded similar enough for them to act on it. Also got one on a video showing my duck playing from the philharmonic Orchestra even though there's no music. youtube upheld it, too.
CreepsMcPasta Does that actually make any sense? What's the more reasonable presumption? That a legal representative of Konami didn't make a proper claim by youtube's standards, or that skynet has suddenly started hiring meat bags to preform duties that a machine could complete in 1/16th of the time? Don't be naive, and don't be a moron. Konami has *no* fucking idea what it's doing and youtube controls the flow of information for most people. This is just the way things are. It seems like a victory but this is only a statistical hiccup. Konami is still moving towards being a company that solely caters to gambling markets and skynet will continue to put nanobots in the water to control what people thing. I'm not even exaggerating all that much.
***** Anger issues, much...? Yes, many of the ID-matches are done with this bot system youtube has, but corporations still have the ability to flag any video they like, and yes, real people have to review their validity when that happens.
I love this channel so much, George your videos are really entertaining to listen to/watch, I hope the publicity of the Konami video doesn't effect you in a negative way. PLEASE dont stop making videos!
RUclips actually defending the uploader rights? RUclips standing up too with all others against Konami? Some things this year are getting better and better.
Gamers: Why didn't you just stop making games and sell your IPs? Konami: You don't fear our end, you welcome it. Your punishment must be more severe. Gamers: Torture? Konami: Yes, but not of your body... of your soul. Gamers: What are you going to do? Konami: We learned that there can be no true despair without hope. So we will make you believe in our games. We will watch you clamoring over each other to play P.T., to buy Phantom Pain and Silent Hills. And when our titles become some of the most awaited games of 2015, we will fulfill our plan. We will destroy everything and then, when P.T. is deleted from history, when Kojima is kicked out, when we move our famous franchises to mobile and when Silent Hill is ashes, then you have our permission to die.
Konami's immature attitude and inappropriate usage of the DMCA takedown to silence criticism. How many more times are companies going to continue to abuse this system and actually make their problems worse before they realize how stupid that action is? I don't know, but I'm glad to see even the barest hint that RUclips might finally be stepping up to protect their content creators. Thanks for the video.
Now the CEO is saying "mobile is the future!" Konami is the fucking antichrist of video games now. I've never felt so much contempt and disdain for a faceless corporation.
chemergency well to be fair, lots of dumb kids are obsessed with shitty mobile games these days. It'll be a shame when it all busts because they move to the superior hardware of consoles or PC.
Let's hope that they do. Mobile games are fucking dross. With or without good hardware they're stunted on a fundamental level thanks to touch-only input and the insatiable F2P business model. I'd honestly rather play old Tiger electronic LCD handhelds, at least their controls have proper physical feedback and the game's design is fair for what it is, in spite of the limited tech.
DrVunderbahr Not just dumb kids, but Japan as a whole are super into mobile gaming now - hence why Capcom, Square Enix and even Nintendo are trying to get in on the action.
gnarkillguch Indeed. MGS kind of needs to be laid to rest, but some IPs, like Suikoden and ZOE deserve some love, those two alone could benefit from a reboot. Fresh ideas on updated hardware would be awesome. Its nice to see some companies, such as Nintendo, take part in mobile but understand their strengths. I assume its because they have the money to take those risks, while companies like Konami, can't afford to bet on niche markets as much. Oh well, this seems to be the way of most companies, trying to find away to squeeze out more money. Its either the mobile market, or sprinkle in season passes, DLC, and and micro transactions to make ends meet easier.
I feel the reason why Konami is being so god damn blatant about covering it all up is because they don't care about their old target demographic any more, whatever they do to anger us old fans is nothing to them because they're off to go focus on the other market that makes them money. The more they ignore us, the more we'll tire and stop asking them to make real ass video games again.
VegaArchAngel I don't know, many would think SH: Downpour was "Real Ass". Would you want Konami to continue making Real ass video games? Okay the joke was a bit of a stretch.
VegaArchAngel Konami only make 15% of their profits from video games, and have only one game coming out this year. I'd say that you're absolutely right.
VegaArchAngel If they no longer give a shit they should sell the IPs off to someone who will use them, but oh nooooo, they need that for clothing and pachinko machine panels.
VegaArchAngel There is an official statement. They are pretty much pulling out of the console games market and focusing on mobile games for their video games division.
This is all really interesting. It might indeed be the start of something big and exciting for video creators on RUclips and video game journalism. If there's the demand and defense for it, we might get more investigative journalism. Or it might be a pleasant smelling fart in the tempest of OH HEY NEW ASSASSIN'S CREED. Your essay was the best read I got on Konami treatment of Kojima. Which I couldn't even swallow the first time I heard how he was leaving. So glad it came back.
I was so surprised when I found out that the video that Konami ripped down was by Super Bunny Hop! This channel is one of the best kept secrets on RUclips and I hope this controversy just draws more subscribers. Keep up the good work George.
They do it because from what I know from a person who works at Bandai Namco. Japanese companies are able to moderate what is said and what promotion happens to a game, in Japan. The person I know has said that they themselves have many times gotten calls from Bandai Namco Japan to take down a youtube video they didn't like. At least in Bandai Namco's case this person tells them "no we can't do that."
It's amazing that you got video back. Maybe youtube slowly learns that gaming content creators are huge part of a reason why people hung up on youtube and will start to review things properly. What still worries me is the fact that they only had to deliver documents AFTER video was taken down not before but hey it's still better than it used to be.

ShadowWolfRising Y'know, making their own Pachinko machines is hard. Let the dedicated pachinko manufacturers do it instead of a certain half-assed Konami!
I love your work and I feel incredibly happy for the success of your Konami video and your PoE review, you are amongst my favorite youtubers and a personal idol for me.
As someone who runs a channel that enjoys archiving Japanese media content, I will leave a bit of a testimony here; Outside the anime industry (which has actual anime piracy problems), I've felt like Japan has a DISTURBINGLY high rate of abusing RUclips's ContentID and DMCA takedown system for the sake of PR control, trying to take down criticism rather than using the protections for their intended purpose. In my history of pulling things from NicoNico and moving them to RUclips to help them seek a larger audience, the few copyright strikes I had to deal with - I can count them on one hand, thankfully - were mostly from bizarre, recently-formed media conglomerates formed to protect the PR of certain Japanese celebrity figures I don't give a damn about, and their track records include trying to take down videos of whatever became a meme on NicoNico at the time. As such, they would target a barely-related Kirby Dezaemon video because it made a passing reference to a meme the J-celeb's reputation was damaged by. I criticize America's copyright systems heavily and think they've become broken over the years, but I give credit where it's due - that kind of insanity would not fly if it actually made it to court in America. In Japan, however, the culture has been so affected by this few with a public presence can even utter the mere word "Gundam" without having fear of Bandai's lawyers being on their tails. Sega's Shining Force episode, and this Konami stuff, are the effects of how ingrained in Japan's business culture this is. It shows how utterly ridiculous and distorted their views and beliefs on intellectual property are, and considering how Japan THRIVES on the doujin scene, reeks of utter hypocracy and internal inconsistency. And as Konami has just shown wtih P.T., it is also utterly and pointlessly self-destructive.
In a way, it's almost cathartic to see Konami making mistakes all over the place now rather than just beating Silent Hill to death. Great job, Bunnyhop. Keep it up.
I like your video. You're eloquent, engaging, and respectful. I came here by way of The Escapist, but I think I'm going to check out your other stuff now.
I'm glad you got this resolved. Although I am a bit puzzled why this is such a big deal considering it's so common on RUclips now. Gaming seems to get all the attention but movie studios are brutal when it comes to copyright material in reviews. It's the reason most critics don't bother showing clips at all anymore. I show nothing more than small amounts of trailer footage and 50% of the time the video gets flagged for 30 days before getting released! These claims are crippling the network and RUclips needs to figure it the fuck out!
Jogwheel that doesn't mean crap unless you are actually one of the lucky "managed" youtubers, and unless you have at least 1 mill subs, I don't you would be.
downphoenix Funny, my channels actually *do* have a million subs, and I *am* a "managed" partner. I was just busting Adam's balls though - we're friends. He knows I'm joking - MCNs _generally_, don't do shit, like you said.
I have one third-party claim on part 4 of 21 in my Metal Gear Rising LP. I don't know why. It's not during a song or anything. It's just some random moment of gameplay a few minutes in. It's from Konami, and my network confirmed it's legit. I just don't understand what Konami is doing or how they work.
I feel like Konami would be a great new villain for the next book: Game of Thrones: "The Lever Puller". You're in George R. R. Martin's hands now. Jim Sterling have mercy on your soul Konami.
Well done for the win. I certainly wouldn't have heard of you if not for Konami being Konami. You've gained a new subscriber in me and I'm sure many more. Keep up the good work.
Hazy If I hear anything about Konami censoring or cutting content out of it without Kojima's consent, then I will cancel my pre-order and pirate the PC version instead. They could fucking eat it then.
Hazy Even if they sell 0 copy of MGS 5 that not gonna affect them. since they make a lot more on Fitness clubs, casinos, slot machines and mobile games than making AAA games. it sad that this could be the last MGS game. i hope at least they let Platinum make MGS rising 2
I'm glad to see that your video got some attention. I think this will be the first step towards the understanding that criticism isn't a bad thing and can IMPROVE things later on.
I agree completely, I hope this sets a precedent for RUclips to step in more frequently and say "Hold on, what is your basis for this claim?". Also, your work is well deserving of a boost in viewership!
Matt Ward As much as people hate EA and Activision, they know what they're doing. Their scum, but they know what they're doing when they do their bullshit. Japan? Japan is...odd. Future tech and outdated at the same time it's a weird country. New Silent Hill? Fuck that the real money's in slot machines.
Woo, go George! Glad to hear your interesting video is back up. Its true, when I saw that Konami had taken your video down, it sparked a discussion with a friend about what is happening within the company. This controversy (read: clusterfu*k sh*t-storm) will open the eyes of MGS/Kojima fans.
I assume your video was taken down automatically by the system when the DMCA was filed, but, since DMCA's are serious business someone actually had to check later on if it's even legit. I think previously RUclips was too scared to ignore that DMCA, but I think they're starting to see that it is maliciously used to silence criticism way too often these days. Really hoping that this was not a fluke and it's gonna get even better.
The biggest problem with how RUclips currently handles copyright is that there doesn't seem to be a double jeopardy system in place. Some user have been hit with repeated claims on stuff they have gotten cleared several times.
So, let me se if I got this right: Konami is so incompetent, they can't even abuse RUclips's copyright strike system properly? you have to suck pretty bad for that to happen
To the RUclips staff(s) that reconsidered this, you are awesome and this kind of dedication is something I highly approve, considering a lot of moderators and staff members in large forums or communities don't give a fuck about doing a proper job.
This looks like an excellent channel. I've subscribed. I am surprised by Konami's accomplishment. They managed to file a copyright claim so unreasonable that youtube rejected it. That has to take some effort.
The fact that they wanted to take down your video has done you more than one favor it seems, I mean, it has lent credibility to your sources, because if what you were saying in that video was false, Konami wouldn't try to silence you, right?
Man how does your amazing content not have more subs? Perhaps a better question is why have I only now came across your channel? Love your videos and that is some incredibly in depth research man. Konami just sink lower and lower. They said recently that "Of course Metal Gear can continue without Kojima." But Kojima is Metal Gear. A lot of people give MGS Rising flak but they seem to forget that Kojima Productions still oversaw the story in MGS:Rising. Kojima was about to scrap the game because he couldn't get the gameplay which is why they brought in Platinum. You have a new subscriber and keep up the great work! Also nice seeing Jim Sterling in your comments. Its great that there are guys like you and Jim who call these companies out on their behavior.
Ha ha, I didn't know about your channel before this, really like your style and am subscribing. I guess Konami deserves credit for that he he he. Also, I can't wait to see where Kojima takes his next steps from here, one thing I am certain of its he'll have a global army of supporters when he does.
Kamiya had Okami and DMC taken away from him, Team Silent had Silent Hill taken away from them, and now Kojima will have Metal Gear taken away from him. This is what it means for video games - or frankly, anything - to "evolve" and "mature" into a business oriented practice, one that strangles out the people who actually put the most labour into a creation so that faceless suits and marketers can make as much money and good rep as they can squeeze out of a faceless audience. I'm really depressed, you guys
I'm willing to bet that the only reason they intervened was because they're slowly starting to lose their monopoly that they once held and other video sites are starting to gain popularity now.
Doing that is a stupid move from Konami. I mean if they don't want people to believe you or they don't want your video to get watched they should have just made a f*ucking statement that says that "it wasn't true!". Just glad that someone stood up for you, and man even if I don't know you I got your back for this!
4:38 Good God seeing that typical Polygon article about Dungeon Travelers 2 hurt my head. After seeing this I just had to go look at it, and I even guessed it'd be a carbon copy of the Hyperdimention Neptunia article in that it goes on about "disturbingly young girls" and how "[insert developer here] should market to me/everyone!" and what do you know, I was right. My head, it hurts. Otherwise, I didn't think about that setting precedent, that's amazing! One giant step forward for gaming on RUclips!
Rabbid If that were revealed to be true at E3, I'd be shocked, appalled, stunned, horrified, and hysterical. It would be the greatest prank in history since he would have played the entire industry LIKE A DAMN FIDDLE!!!! Too bad it probably isn't.
I hope they don't try and hit the rest of your content. You have a lot of stuff about MGS Rising and other Konami games. Love your stuff, George, and I wish you the best.
Its not unusual for a company, to change their main objective. even as a huge Metal Gear Fan, im fine with their decision. its their money and their company. after all, the world isn't all about video games. but whatever they will do in the future, they have to treat their employees like human beings. currently, this doesn't seem to be the case.
I discovered your channel after hearing about the takedown, and subsequently seeing it reposted. I watched that video and about 3 others. Then subscribed. :) Thanks, Konami!
>Bought MGSV a while ago. >Had to click through a ton of menus before the main title screen. >Actually bothered reading them for once, instead of just button-mashing through. >One of them basically said Konami has the right to access my save files and delete them. Just fucking lovely. :|
We hope this does start a movement where RUclips will look at these DMCA claims more closely. The use in understandable but it is being used more to quiet down bad press. Thanks for your awesome videos.
Found out about this from RT's The Know and I'm now subscribed. It's a 'fuck you' to Konami, but like you said here, you can also thank them for more popularity by going after you, the fucking idiots. Looking forward to more videos!
So the thumbnail for this video is the album artwork for "Versus the World" by Amon Amarth. Either he typed in "versus the world" into google images and found that picture because it comes up for at least the first million or so images when you search it, or he is a fan of the band; in which case I will think he is an even cooler dude than I already do. He strikes me as someone who might like metal so I'm hoping that it's option two haha.
Konami is definitely making some very odd moves, but it's nice that, for now at least, this situation has been resolved. Hopefully things will stay good, and RUclips will continue to finally protect content that doesn't actually violate copyright laws, from being effected by copyright laws.
As a journalist, this type of behavior is proof-positive that you're on the right track. That you're doing good by your profession. An entity trying to pull a fast one with someone's coverage is the absolute best compliment a journalist can possibly receive.
Standing with you. Konami's behavior in your situation was absolutely distasteful.
Jim Sterling just wanna say, love your work. and pardon my language, FUCK Konami. Thanks and have a good one m8.

Kiddo Cabbusses | サテラビュー好きの外人さん I used to live Japan. Both the government and the corporation behave like the mafia. Believe me.
Miss BumBum I'd hate to know what the yakuza are in this comparison, then.
Their are a lot of things about Japan that I don't like but at least they won't kidnap and torture you like in Mexico.
never expected out of all the videos about kojima, YOUR video to be taken down
well, the publicity is a good temporary boost i guess
In a way, it's almost cathartic to see Konami making mistakes all over the place now rather than just beating Silent Hill to death.
Great job, Bunnyhop. Keep it up.
I like your video. You're eloquent, engaging, and respectful. I came here by way of The Escapist, but I think I'm going to check out your other stuff now.
I was just waiting for an "I'm super fucking bunnyhop son! and thank god for me"
Drakan R Actually lol'ed.
Maybe now the channel will get more well deserved attention. Keep up the great work, George.
Feud Nation You should join a network, brah.
Jogwheel that doesn't mean crap unless you are actually one of the lucky "managed" youtubers, and unless you have at least 1 mill subs, I don't you would be.
Jogwheel Haha, we both know networks don't do shit.
downphoenix He knows. He's just giving me a hard time.
downphoenix
Funny, my channels actually *do* have a million subs, and I *am* a "managed" partner. I was just busting Adam's balls though - we're friends. He knows I'm joking - MCNs _generally_, don't do shit, like you said.
Thank you for what you do, George.
You're easily my favorite game journalist ever.
Konami's like " he knows too much shut him down" lol
Congrats George. I didn't see any of those articles but your content is deserving of all the internet fame you get.
Just to mentioned that Konami tried to take down that previous video meant that some of the "rumors" were probably true.
I also think the same way.
ikr
I'm so glad I subscribed to you after that takedown. Just think, if Konami hadn't advertised for you, I would never have found this channel!
Its awesome to see this kind of thing happen. Kudos to you George for the true critical journalism, and hell, to youtube for the save!
I feel like Konami would be a great new villain for the next book:
Game of Thrones: "The Lever Puller".
You're in George R. R. Martin's hands now. Jim Sterling have mercy on your soul Konami.
The game of thrones system
Well done for the win. I certainly wouldn't have heard of you if not for Konami being Konami. You've gained a new subscriber in me and I'm sure many more. Keep up the good work.
Here's to hoping Konami goes bankrupt.
Sadly MGS 5 will sell enough to keep them afloat for another 10 years at the least.
Oh don't worry. They just announced that they want to move to mobile gaming since it's the future for gaming apparently.
Hazy If I hear anything about Konami censoring or cutting content out of it without Kojima's consent, then I will cancel my pre-order and pirate the PC version instead. They could fucking eat it then.
***** They said that motion controls were the future and look where that ended up.
Yassine Bousalem I would be more worried if it was not the last Metal Gear game. I would like a Metal Gear Rising 2 though.
I'm glad to see that your video got some attention. I think this will be the first step towards the understanding that criticism isn't a bad thing and can IMPROVE things later on.
Thats it, I'm convinced that Konami was invaded by evil alien forces.
SEND IN X-COM.
I've been watching your channel all day. You're like a small island of professionalism in a vast sea of chumps. Right on man, right on.
George Weidman is on the verge of greatness.
I agree completely, I hope this sets a precedent for RUclips to step in more frequently and say "Hold on, what is your basis for this claim?". Also, your work is well deserving of a boost in viewership!
I currently live in a world where EA and Activision aren't really that bad, but Capcom & Konami are the big bads. Did I wake up in Bizzaro World?
Matt Ward no, we crashed into bizzaro world and used bits of it to rebuild our own.
Matt Ward Even Steam's getting a lot of flak these days! This truly is the end of times
Matt Ward Hell has Frozen, Ghosts took over New York City, Cats and Dogs Living Together, mass hysteria everywhere!
Matt Ward Um... I thought Squeenix was the supreme overlord of Japanese horseshit?
Thanks for the follow-up George, loving the transparency.
All I'm taking away from this is that someone on the RUclips legal team was a Silent Hill fan.
The Patriots / the la le lu le lo seem and failed to control the flow of information. Keep up with the great works S.B!
Lalulileo
They said recently that "Of course Metal Gear can continue without Kojima."
But Kojima is Metal Gear.
Who woulda thought a Japanese company doesn't respect their fans or laws?! Weird...
You're definitely right dude. This has garnered you much respect! Its good to feel like we stand for something as a gaming community. Subbed!
I'm willing to bet that the only reason they intervened was because they're slowly starting to lose their monopoly that they once held and other video sites are starting to gain popularity now.
***** I doubt it. I don't see how getting that one video back up is their means of maintaining whatever monopoly they have left.
RippahRooJizah if this is just the start of it all then yes, it could be enough for them to maintain a monopoly.
Great to see that everything worked out for you. And hey you got yourself a nice bumb for your viewership. Much deserved!
Daily reminder that this is ALL just a Kojima ruse
Rabbid God how I wish this were true...
Rabbid If that were revealed to be true at E3, I'd be shocked, appalled, stunned, horrified, and hysterical. It would be the greatest prank in history since he would have played the entire industry LIKE A DAMN FIDDLE!!!!
Too bad it probably isn't.
Rabbid That seems almost crazy enough to be true! Is this an actual theory of yours, or was it just a little joke?
defuserable
Sorry, it was just a joke, I'm not smart enough, but considering it's Kojima we're talking about here, I wouldn't be too surprised.
chemergency This might be the worst E3 in years, if a prank like that would happen the uproar would be catastrophic.
🎶 Konami don't know what they're doing, dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb 🎶
Me: you seriously want to go against the world?
Konami: and what's wrong with going against the world
Cookie to anyone who gets that reference
+TheOrangex88 One piece ?
+Nadhif Bhagawanta no
its also a line from MGS1 where ocelot says that to Liquid
I hope they don't try and hit the rest of your content. You have a lot of stuff about MGS Rising and other Konami games. Love your stuff, George, and I wish you the best.
HEY KONAMI! I still have P.T in my PS4! WHAT YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THAT!
Sherhan Mahmud aand we haven't heard of Sherhan Mahmud since. He was a good man
Aiman Rusman I shall haunt Konami now and give them the real P.T experience lol
So do I. Maybe I'll sell it lol
Damon Miller sell it for $1000 lol
DONT SELL IT IT MIGHT BE A COLLECTORS NOW SINCE THERES NOTHING IN STOCK
I'm subscribing to your podcast, these videos are well-written, informative and dryly humorous! I hope more amazing content awaits
Thanks, Konami!
>Bought MGSV a while ago.
>Had to click through a ton of menus before the main title screen.
>Actually bothered reading them for once, instead of just button-mashing through.
>One of them basically said Konami has the right to access my save files and delete them.
Just fucking lovely. :|
+0mniscient1That's bullshit, but I believe it.
Keep up the good work George, I've enjoyed your content this past year.
Watch Martin Scorsese's Casino, then watch 'Konami vs. Kojima: An Investigation' then watch this video. Konami is now officially the mafia.
We hope this does start a movement where RUclips will look at these DMCA claims more closely. The use in understandable but it is being used more to quiet down bad press. Thanks for your awesome videos.
Wait Wait Wait..... RUclips DID SOMETHING TO PROTECT ITS USERS??????
OH MY GOSH!!!
PRAISE THE SUN!!!!! ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ
Damn good video, and solid production values. Your exposure is well earned, as well as necessary to have this story out there for more people to see.
Found out about this from RT's The Know and I'm now subscribed. It's a 'fuck you' to Konami, but like you said here, you can also thank them for more popularity by going after you, the fucking idiots. Looking forward to more videos!
Congrats on getting your video back. It needs to happen in general more often.
ayy
time for game journalists to monetize all your work
So the thumbnail for this video is the album artwork for "Versus the World" by Amon Amarth. Either he typed in "versus the world" into google images and found that picture because it comes up for at least the first million or so images when you search it, or he is a fan of the band; in which case I will think he is an even cooler dude than I already do. He strikes me as someone who might like metal so I'm hoping that it's option two haha.
You're in the big leagues now, buddy. You actually have a substantial presence in the gaming world now. Keep up the great work.
#FucKonami
Glad everything seems to be working out for you. Keep up the good work!
Konami is definitely making some very odd moves, but it's nice that, for now at least, this situation has been resolved. Hopefully things will stay good, and RUclips will continue to finally protect content that doesn't actually violate copyright laws, from being effected by copyright laws.
6 years konami and they will still catch these hands
Confirmed: this is the best channel on youtube.
I'm always up for more MegaRabbitJump. You rock!
I was waiting for this video. You legend.
Woah! Looks like you're in the big leagues now George! Keep up the good work man.
As a journalist, this type of behavior is proof-positive that you're on the right track. That you're doing good by your profession. An entity trying to pull a fast one with someone's coverage is the absolute best compliment a journalist can possibly receive.
