I was standing on the bow with my hands on my knees watching the side scan on the Helix when we hit a submerged tree. I dang near went head first over the bow and probably would have been run over and left behind if I hadn't grabbed my butt seat pole and hung on. I still use it but I make sure of my safe position on the boat.
Great video! Just learned a lot about these units! as far as I know you still have to hardwire. there is an extra cable coming out of the head of the trolling motor that plugs into the helix.. via an adapter cable,, minn kota supplied it,, one for the helix 7 and a different one for all other 8 and above humminbird units.
Thank You for making it clear that an additional $170 - $350 purchase of lakemaster maps is required to link the Humminbird and Minn Kota together. Shame on them for hiding this fact in vague wording and almost impossible to find fine print. Does the directional capability (still) also require an external puck GPS sensor? Nitroman Z20 I do have a question. Does the Lake Master card work good around the Mobile Delta as far as showing most creeks? I currently have a cheaper graphic that uses the chart plotter and in some creeks it show like I’m on land. I have been waiting on buying a lake card to see which unit that I upgrade to.
@@scottsheffield2594 no . The Lake Master chip doesn't show the contour detail very well in the creeks around Mobile. However, the Auto-Chart Live feature on the new Humminbirds allows you to scan and map the contour over time. You can store your personal maps in the unit's internal memory or an SD Card for future reference. It's really easy to use. Just enable it and drive. It will map while you're on pad at slow speeds.
Lowell Taylor I assume you have a Lakemaster map card for the body of water you’re on? They are required for follow the contour. If so, do you have an Ultrex or Ulterra with iPilot Link? If you have both, it should work.
