Their work is far superior to anything you’ll find on HGTV! Nicole Curtis is the only other one I’ve seen that really does restoration in a quality way.
Hi Laine and Kevin! That was a very nice pilot, but I personally prefer the manner in which you both produce and host "Our Restoration Nation," which is excellent. ORN is a magnificent jewel of a show because it reflects and displays the real you and all of your various fantastic expertise and experience. I thank GOD that ORN has nothing to do with the likes of HGTV. ORN is always sincere and genuine with unwavering integrity and never comes across as rushed or pretentious (which is the HGTV way). Laine, this is why you and Kevin are so very loved, respected, and adored by your subscribers. Please, please always stay the way you are! GOD bless!
I would have LOVED to see this as a tv series!! The problem with HGTV is that they have too many lackluster spin-offs and not enough original content. By contrast, I think that’s something that The Magnolia Network does very well.
Yes, I think HGTV missed a gold mine not picking this up. However, I'm so glad they passed. Your citizens got the best, and you are our gold mine!! Can't imagine all the things we would have missed had you been with HGTV. 🥰
I can’t believe they didn’t pick this up, I would LOVE to see a show like this every week!!! And I wanna see the rest! What was up there that Kevin was never gonna believe? 😭
This would have been an awesome Show for HG to pick up, but they seem to suck the Freedom out of the show's hosts with all of their scripting etc. Love that you both are free to be you, and that you can buy and bring these beauties back to life on your own terms.❤
HGTV Would have try their best to change you into what they think is better, but the way you do things is what we love about you and want to see!!! We look forward to every video ! Saving these home for the future are so important and you do it in GRAND STYLE!!! THANK YOU!!
What was HGTV thinking? THIS is exactly the kind of content I want to watch - true restoration of beautiful old homes. What a missed opportunity for them. Thank Heaven we can still see your fabulous work online. God bless you both!! ❤
Well, what can I say to add to the already "...HGTV, you blew it!!!" comment??? Well, for me, I'd rather watch one after another of your videos as I do my handwork at my table with you all laughing in the background; I play y'all almost constantly...my other fav is watching a Alabama coast resident who does fish videos with a GoPro dropped underwater. Guess the light hearted manner of life is my thing...will keep tuning in even if y'all stop making videos, there are plenty to replay!!! Thanks guys, love what you do and how you do it!!! ❤❤❤
I'm grateful this didn't happen! There's a quote about Barry Bucknell (a 1960's UK DIY show host) destroying more London houses than the Luftwaffe; I think HGTV could definitely compete with the hurricanes over the past decade for the number of historic houses they've destroyed!
It would’ve been nice to see you on HGTV. However, I think the both of you do it better away from HGTV. So keep on doing what you’re doing because we love you. God bless.
Personal opinion - all networks are too interested in what the advertisers want & drama, not real life drama but "let's blow this up out of all proportion" drama to fill their programs. You two, and other RUclips presenters, are giving us stories of what you are working on, true drama in the manner of "this is the issue & this is what we atr doing about it" as well as teaching what's possible, how to, etc. This is why I come to far more RUclips programs then network ones. I applaud you & the others who spend time & effort creating these glimpses of your labor, the why's & wherefore, & the how's as you do them. Thank you!!!
Yeah, the tv corps want CHEAP entertainment these days, which is not even entertainment but brain rot. It’s a shame because it used to be a good channel. It’s also a huge shame because the air waves are a great resource for human development if respectively utilized.
I love what you do! I hate how this pilot is cut to make you two look like the rest of hgtv. We KNOW that you both pull the yoke equally that’s what makes watching you so refreshing.
Such a shame they didn't pick this up - I for sure would have tuned in!! But thank you for sharing what you do on RUclips...I have learned so much from the both of you!
This would have been the show of my dreams! And the only way I would have gotten cable again. Seriously, the history being shared, this is what's lacking in all the "restoration" shows out there, and I use that term loosely. That's always the information I want and never get. They lost out big time.
This was fun! You are too nice, too honest, too meticulous and too forthright to have a show on HGTV. I really liked Chuck. Does he really work with you all the time? Or is he a construct for the HGTV show? Every Thursday morning, I get my coffee and settle in to watch the absolute best show there is about historical renovation and restoration. The best thing about your show is that it’s authenically you, you decide what you’re doing, in what order and what process you’re using. I really appreciate what you do and I very selfishly don’t want to give up my Thursday mornings with Laine and Kevin.🩷🌸
Thank you! Chucky is my good friend in Arkansas. He does help me with some demo and helps me move a lot of things but his addition was the HGTV suggestion. Don’t get me wrong, he would be handy to have around, but he’s got his own thing going on.
I'm ever so glad we have y'all on RUclips and Instagram instead of HGTV! I feel like they would've just stifled your creativity way too much. Love y'all!❤
You guys are amazing. I do love how your knowledge of history, historic architecture, materials and preservation shine through. Glad we still get to see so much of you even without HGTVs help. I sure hope Helen gets the work done that she deserves. Get your act together Helena!!!
Thanks for the peek into your adventure. I much prefer watching your restorations on RUclips because you explain how to do things, something HGTV gave up doing as soon as they figured out it was more profitable to allow corporate sponsors to pay to replace everything. It hurts my heart to see the history of an old home lost to unnecessary modernization.
OMG!! Love, love, loved this! So quintessentially Kevin & Laine! I'd have binge-watched episodes repeatedly. But they couldn't just let you do you, so rather than watching you march to the beat of a corporate drum we get the pleasure of joining you on all your journeys as you truly are. Go you.
I wish HGTV did give you a show, but in a way I'm glad they didn't. If you did have a show you would have to fix these treasures on a tv schedule and I really enjoy watching you two put the love and time into them. Since you are doing something so important with historical value to the community, and life can be chaotic with old homes having hiccups that newer homes don't, I prefer that you go at your own pace.
I ❤ Our Restoration Nation! Could you REALLY appreciate your fireplace surround project interrupted by HGTV visiting then wanting to film another project? No way! You two lucked out with your RUclips channel. Best of all, YOU call the shots!
I don’t like a lot of hgtv shows because they don’t focus on old houses and when they do they don’t seem to care about the actual history sooo I would definitely watch y’all’s show
I thoroughly enjoyed this -- a wonderful episode-- but please show us more!!😃. We want to know about the treasures you’re digging through at abt 13:14. Love it!!❤
Good on you guys for staying true and doing the restorations. I have been on another restoration show and the networks ruin the love of restoration. All the work and talking about restoration with the host and my friend, and it was thrown out on the edit floor. Networks make money by people buying new things.. sadly, restoring things isn’t making money.
I'd like to see this entire restoration. It's absolutely fascinating and definitely a worthy project to preserve history, culture, and community development. Where in the world would you find a historical gem like this? You're the most knowledgeable about digging into the original blueprints of the house, and bringing it back to it's former regal beauty. Did the HGTV prevent you from showing the whole Civil War House restoration? Release the rights HGTV
I'm glad that HGTV didn't pick this up. The "jumps" between shots, the off hand comments, the lack of in depth explanations for why something is the way it was or why it would be restored in a certain way were frustrating! I really love the laid back rocking chair sessions that you conduct explaining all of this and interspersing that with appropriate video footage of restoration in progress followed by a final before and after tour is more suited to your style, and shows more respect to the process of how long and how arduous a task these projects can be. I think that the production schedule of a TV program would have ruined that ambiance.
This leaves me wanting to see more and more! Sooooo much more interesting than anything else offered. Well....I wish there was a petition to bring this on board, because I'd sign it!
That’s too bad cause you two are phenomenal. I’ve just discovered your videos and have watched 75 percent of them. Binge watching. Just trying to catch up to how you bought Hope. It’s going to be a fabulous restoration.
Honestly, I prefer the genuine Laine and Kevin we get here on your channel. But thank you for the peek into what HGTV does to real people who know what they are doing. Like you Laine I also cry when angry, it is infuriating, but I suspect I would have expressed my frustration during what looked like a very trying process, rather less politely than you did.
I much prefer watching your RUclips channel...more thorough & you explain so much! Ive learned so much. I do hope that you can soon work on Helen again & put it on RUclips but i enjoyed Pearl & am excited to keep seeing Hope!
HGTV that’s their loss. If I remember right you guys really didn’t want to do it. Your doing very well on Utube anyway. Although I would of loved to have seen the whole process of this gorgeous old house. I’ll go back n lol in the archives 😅. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I want to see more!! Why, oh why, was this not continued as a series? Someone made a bad decision! Thank you for sharing it here on you tube, and please do you have more you can show us, about this house and others?
We have a our “Restoring Our Victorian” series that has Pearl beginning to end, and we are in the beginning of our “Restoring Hope “ series that has four episodes !

Watching you both respectfully bringing homes back to life, sharing the home’s history, and showcasing other restored diamonds for sale is far more preferable than watching some formulaic fabrication.
You blew it, HGTV! Should've picked this up!
I agree!!! I love these people, and what they do for these precious gems!
Their work is far superior to anything you’ll find on HGTV! Nicole Curtis is the only other one I’ve seen that really does restoration in a quality way.
Agree. I’m tired of what they throw out. This I would watch 100%.
This should be a show we tune into every week! Oh wait! I have something better on RUclips! Thanks Our Restoration Nation! ❤️😊

I can’t believe they didn’t pick this up, I would LOVE to see a show like this every week!!! And I wanna see the rest! What was up there that Kevin was never gonna believe? 😭
There was a treasure trove of old furniture pieces including an additional stair railing and spindles

HGTV messed up on this one. This would've been a show a lot of people would've watched. Love your channel and everything that you do!!
I'm grateful this didn't happen! There's a quote about Barry Bucknell (a 1960's UK DIY show host) destroying more London houses than the Luftwaffe; I think HGTV could definitely compete with the hurricanes over the past decade for the number of historic houses they've destroyed!

What a wonderful pilot. Thank goodness HGTV had taken their stupid pills that day!!!!! Love you on RUclips. I got rid of TV in February, 2013.
Personal opinion - all networks are too interested in what the advertisers want & drama, not real life drama but "let's blow this up out of all proportion" drama to fill their programs. You are one of my favorites on RUclips. In this space, you can be yourself and have control over the editing.
❤❤❤ HGTV needs to start this show ASAP!!!! I love it already and this isn't even a full episode!!!
I think it's a blessing in disguise! You two already are a hit and I think HGTV would have to control too much of the process. 🤗

You are too original for HGTV. They only have a few shows that don't strip the complete personality out of every redesign. Preservation is more PBS. HGTV is about white paint and new products they can promote. We appreciate your style and honor of history!
🎯Yes! The celebrity world strips the soul out of whatever/whomever it touches. Good for them for not having to worship at that altar. They will be 100 times more successful on YT, values wise and peace of mind.
"Preservation is more PBS" oh no you actually believe PBS is interested in anything but propaganda?
HGTV made a big mistake. So glad that you are able to remain true to ORN’s goals. Thank you for informing us of this info. B~}

I can’t believe Lane told Hg TV viewers not to paint brick. That put half of their ill-informed restoration people in the doghouse.😮
Yup, I see the difference; the “little lady” treatment.
HGTV missed the boat. Maybe someday the show will happen.
