Yeas, a cat 🎉
Done. Greetings from Germany.
Would it be worth your time to take your show on the road & offer your services to social media famous pets to bring more attention to what you're doing?
I can not expect the joy in my heart seeing an FIP survivor. I lost my 9 month old Maggie to it in 2005 and there is not a cat disease on earth, I have wanted more to see fought and conquered. All the purrs and cuddles in the world to this sweet boy.
What does FIP mean? And sorry for your loss
@@Astr0id_Fields
Feline Infectious Peritonitis, it was once considered fatal, but VERY recent advancements have led to cats being cured!
@lotus_flower2000 oh, okay. Ty for telling me
@ Thank you.
I lost my 5 year old boy to FIP last September. It broke my heart. It's an awful disease. My baby boy ended up with seizures that couldn't be controlled and I had to let him go. I had him from 3 days old, a tiny bean with his siblings and momma who I was fostering. I hate this disease, it can creep up so quickly. I'm so sorry for your loss too... it's hard, isn't it? xxx
He's a ginger, he will defy the odds with sheer stubborn will.
I'm glad he's with us, I hope he lives a very long, ginger life.
😂😂 I've known enough gingers that I feel this is true!
My ginger kitty has diabetes for years. But he accepted the insulin shots because he realized they made him feel better. He hung on a whole year longer than my cousin (who has dealt with dozens of cats between her own and fosters) thought he would. I said he knew I needed him during that year, as my mom died. He died 1 week before the 1st anniversary of her passing.
For ruining lives as an orange cat 🥂
up until very very very recently, FIP was essentially a death sentence for cats. i believe it was actually a research group in canada that have been making incredible progress with a new, less-invasive treatment method that's also effective and have been helping to save feline lives ❤
Canadian nurses and lab people kick butt!
An artist I follow has a kitten who was part of the clinical trials for that study and he went from basically being at death's door to within a week or two, being a normal screwball kitten, iirc they finished his treatment a couple months ago and he's doing well now
@@KayariBelphegor? Little Belphie?
@@SandraNelson063 lol no they don't. Nurses are lazy and will readily hand you MAID forms to sign. Happened to me when I needed a simple surgery to stay alive.
@@KayariBelphegor?! We love him in this house!!
The day I learned FIP could finally be treated was a beautiful day. I lost my soul kitty, a Tuxedo Siberian to FIP in 2002.
😢😢😢
It can be treated but it's no way a guarantee low success has to be caught very early. it's also very expensive so most couldn't afford it
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Too much soap
@KaivalaJenva My baby was diagnosed early. He survived just over a year with it. He had the wet version and the vet kept his abdomen drained as much as he could. He was a happy snuggling loving cat to the last day. I even have a photo of him from the day before he passed with donut filling on his nose. I would have done anything for him. Even go into debt.
I prayed and prayed that he would go peacefully. He passed in my arms on the way to the vet to have him euthanized. I was so thankful for that. The only reason I had decided to say goodbye was because he was having to be drained more and more.
Poor Freddie has gone through the wringer. I hope he lives a long, healthy and happy life from now on.
May Freddie thrive for decades to come. He deserves it.
One of my boys is an FIP survivor. He was diagnosed only a couple months after turning one and I was devastated (I later discovered that day was actually National Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) Awareness, Research, and Education Day). I had never heard of it before and my panicked Google searches were labeling it as a death sentence.
I am so thankful that the cat clinic we went to pointed us in the right direction and my husband and I were able to treat him with the help of my mom (she's an absolute angel).
After 84 days of treatment and 84 more days of observation, he was declared cured! My little fighter turned two in September. ❤
I love that you’re highlighting orange cats this month 🐈 they are certainly a class of their own! The towel holding method is genius.
This day has been very orange!
Orange cats are the nicest!!!!
I bet when you wiped him down with the towel, he then realized "wait... this feels so good on my fire skin" and calmed down for a proper rinse down
I always get stupidly happy when they take the snack
Evelyn my cat is an FIP survivor. Her treatment was 80 days of antiviral s with an amazing vet team supporting her. She has been symptom free and well for 6 months now and yes early intervention is crucial. If your cat is not well have them examined and tested by a vet without delay.
Do they have to stay at the vet during treatment, or do you bring em home and take them back.
@johnsmith-ug5tp she was in veterinary hospital for 10 days, which was distressing for us and her, but she required IV support for meds, hydration and close observation, we were allowed to visit and as soon as she started to pick up we took her home. Return visits were a few days apart and improvement meant the time between visits became longer. The challenge was medicating her daily over 70 days, over which we needed to be diligent, putting the tablet down her throat to ensure dosing was effective. It is not cheap, we are so glad she is insured and she was seen by a vet how knew what they were looking at and acted on testing and treatment without delay, for which we are so grateful
Dr.
Sam Bailey
@@johnsmith-ug5tp depends on the cat's particular case. If stable and cooperative, treatment can be done at home. For certain cases there might be a need for them to stay at the vet until they're stable (especially if they're accumulating fluids that need to be drained).
What a sweet boy, especially for a 4yo cat who's not used to grooming. I hope he continues to recover and lives a long, happy life.
Freddie crying in the tub made me cry, too. He's been through so much already. Bless you Vanessa. I am really happy about the new podcast format ❤
It was rough. I usually fast forward.
FIP -- feline infectious perontinitis -- has been fatal mostly (if not entirely) in the past. Treatment is fairly new and good outcomes have happened as the treatment protocol becomes more widely avaiable. It was commonly thought of as a death sentence, I understand. One cat successfully treated for it needed 90 days but got thru the protocol and survived.
For clarity to everyone who has to look it up: peritonitis means inflammation/infection of the peritoneum, the membrane lines the inside of your body and the outside of many of your favorite internal organs. Even for humans peritonitis is REALLY dangerous.
@@chrysanthemum8233 It lines the abdominal cavity. Not your whole body.
Yep! A very long treatment but survival is a always likely!
That towel really did the trick! That was a brilliant idea, Vanessa!
Not gonna lie when you said he was shaking my heart melted a bit. There is nothing that tears out my heart like a frightened cat. As an owner of a very timid cat that was like that when I first got her, traumatized and scared of everything, my heart just wishes I could fix everything immediately for all of the poor scared cats out there. Thank you for taking care of him.
Poor, sweet boy. Compassionate, smart groomer.
FIP used to be 100% fatal up until fairly recently. I have lost 3 youngsters over that past 20 years and it was heartbreaking 💔. Congratulations Fred on your new life ahead! Your parents are to be commended for all their determination to help him become a survivor ❤. FIP treatment is very expensive and hard on the feline to be treated. Bless them all❤
In my country we lost about 30%-40% of our stray population from FIP. 2 years ago a pandemic started in stray colonies and so many died until an approved treatment was able to be provided. We still have many cases but it's not the amount we had 2 years ago. So many cats passed away alone. Thank God now we have two types of treatment according to the type of FIP and we are able to save most them.
Cyprus?
@@ferretyluv yes
@@Cupcake_Murder We had been to Cyprus a few months before the FIP epizootic. The cats were so friendly in Ayia Napa. It made us sad to think how many of those cats are probably dead now.
"But you can't jump out of the tub."
Immediately places paw on the edge of the tub and gives The Look.
Orange power. 🤣
His loaf at the end 10/10❤️
The SPEED at which he devoured the first tube, m'lady you're gonna need to clip nails quicker or get bigger tubes 🤣🤣🤣
Orange is the color of the month. Glad he is on the road to recovery. Beautiful ❤️
heartwarming video, my british short hair got diagnosed with it last year and the medication was not legal to give out for the vet where I live. I felt so lost and failed by the system but I got in contact with good folks who made it possible for me to get the medication and administered it myself. Today he is healthy and happy and its like nothing ever happened. If your cat is diagnosed with FIP and your vet says the medication is not legal, look for groups for your area on social media, its more common than most people think
10/10 paw tuck.
He was totally full float!
Sweet little orange kitty. Poor thing. I hope he makes a full recovery
I am so happy to see an FIP survivor. Lost a beloved cat to that last year and I miss him a ton. Good owners!!
Freddie, looks very fancy and proper with his bow!
Sweet Freddie. Genius towel trick. His owners must love him very much
Thanks for the towel idea, I have an older cat that has digestive issues and sometimes gets messy, I'm going to try this.
I’m not sure what made me so teary at this particular video; either the fact that he’s an FIP survivor (that’s SO rare), or how gentle you were with him in the bath, or how much he reminded me of my own cats, can’t figure it out. But thank you for being so good with this lil man (and that towel in the bath trick - definitely remembering that one!), and may he be blessed with a long healthy life!
12:20 BEAUTIFUL SWEET LITTLE LOAF my heart ;-;
Freddie the pirate ❤ poor boy. I hope the spa day makes him more comfortable so he can get that cone off his head for good. Thank you Vanessa for helping such a brave boy ❤️🐾❤️
He's such a cute, adorable sweetie. Despite all his hardships, he's such a patient, kind cat
Poor little guy. He seems like a very sweet kitty. I hope he feels better real soon...
Aww as a Queen fan who follows your channel I couldn't not think of Freddie Mercury, he loved cats and I'm sure he would've loved this Freddie too! So brave, cute and with a beautiful voice! 🥰
Our buddy in the video surely is singing "I want to breaaaaaak freeeeee" 😂❤
I remember a few years ago when people had to go to the black market to get treatment for FIP, but now I’m seeing so many more videos of cats getting TREATED and RECOVERING!!!
Thanks for helping him feel so much better.❤
FIP treatment is life-saving, but also a pretty rough process for the cat. I'm so glad this little guy has made it through and is ready to get on with enjoying life again.
For a hands-free tap consider installing a foot-operated lever for this washing tub. It’s a standard medical facility feature.
Such an adorable orange pirate. Long may his orange colors wave. 🧡
FIP & FIV make my heart hurt. I have adopted several kitties over the years with one or the other and as much as I fight it with vets I’ve lost a few along the way. They’re awful diseases and the earlier you start treatment the better the chances. Thank you Vanessa for all you do, and helping these cats live a more comfortable life.💖
what is FIP & FIV please
@@sherelleharvey1942
Cornell University’s Vet School website has an excellent database of pet diseases.
@@sherelleharvey1942 FIP is feline infectious peritonitis, a viral disease that until not long ago was nearly 100% lethal to cats - there's an experimental treatment that is very effective if started early, now.
FIV is feline immunodeficiency virus. Think HIV, but for cats. It's a lifelong disease, but if managed properly, cats can live a pretty normal life (you just need to be really careful with infections).
Genius way to keep him calm while rinsing him!
He definitely felt better after bath you can tell , he was calm and great-full in a way like he really need it
The little fur baby deserves all the love.
I'm so happy you showcased an FIP cat. My cat contracted the disease at age 4.5, quite old for a feline to get it. He survived and is strong and healthy, three years later. It was a very long and stressful 6 months of constant vigilance. I'm so happy the drugs are starting to become more well known and are legal to actually purchase here in the US now.
What a lovely orange man Frederick is. Good luck to him and his pawrents!
I lost my boy to FIP about 10 years ago. It was heartbreaking!! Soo glad to hear they have found a treatment to help save these kitties 💜💜
awh baby with the white bow 😢❤
What a beautiful, sweet cat❤❤ I'm glad his humans could (and did) help him fight and survive.
Thank you for all you do
Such a sweet, polite, gentle boy. I adore him
I love it when you do cats! Ridiculously cute!
his little paws tucked under his chest is the cutest thing 😭
Freddie just seems like the sweetest baby. I'm so glad he survived and will continue to thrive.
Such a sweet boy. His face is so innocent and sweet. Please have the best life!
Fine Freddie has the most beautiful coloration of any ginger I've seen. I hope he returns in the future as a fine, fat, opinionated and feisty boy he deserves to be!
Thank you for having empathy for this poor kitty. I love cats. 😽💚
Poor guy. He is a real survivor though. The advancements being made especially in feline veterinary medicine are incredible.
My boy who passed away a couple years ago had cancer at one time in his eye and had to wear a cone post-enucleation for a very long time. He did get pretty grody, so I can imagine what a nice bath did for this precious one.
I'm so excited for you to get a cat!!
He’s looking great and I’m glad to see that he’s got the appetite for treats. I’m so happy that he got through the illness and treatment ❤.
I ❤ orange cats. I had one named Moneypenny for 18 years and now I have a 5 year old named Sadie. They have a personality all their own 😂 Easy bake oven. Love it!
That's a very interesting name
@Forgottensnapdragon My son was a big James Bond fan, and he named her :-)
@jacrippin1 ah ok 🙂
Aww. Fredrick is a warrior who got over FIP! 💪🧡 So glad to see he is doing well and on his way to recovery.
Wonderful, caring and so calm. Thank you for being you. 😊
Oh I love him so much! He's strong and resilient and may this gorgeous boy live a full and wonderful life ♡♡♡
What a good boy, and bless his people for not giving up on him. 🙏
😻😻😻 I'm sure he felt much better after that spa day and took a long nap!!💚
I adopted an orange cat from my local rescue about eight years ago and he was lovely. Sadly after eight months he got ill and the veterinary doctor diagnosed him with FIP. In two weeks time I had to let him sleep forever ❤
😢
So happy Fredrick got well. ❤️🙏🌷🍀
All these orange cats you are grooming these days is making me want to buy an orange cat! What a sweet heart. I am happy he is recovering. He still has one big beautiful eye.
Don't buy. Find a rescue x
You can just find onen! I've seen oranges and tabbies in general on the street very often. My orange was given to me randomly by a homeless man, he's the sweetest boy in the whole world. There's no need to buy they're easily findable and adoptable ^^
I lost my beloved kitten Spice to this insidious disease in 1982. Not much was known about it back then, except that it was highly contagious and fatal. The day I heard that a cure had been found for this disease was one of the happiest of my life. To all those that we lost, my eternal love to you and your owners.❤
He is so beautiful, what a precious baby. All the love to him. And Vanessa you are amazing. How you handle these babies is so heart-warming. Congratulations on getting a kitty.
Feel better soon Freddie, you look very handsome 😻♥️
Poor guy, thanks for making him feel better.
i was ready for the worst when he started freaking out in the bath but he was actually incredibly sweet and understanding!
The wet towel to help rinse him was a great idea! He is such a sweet baby. I'm so glad he is recovering from that awful illness.
Such a resilient and adaptable little guy, considering how much has changed for him in such a short time!
Poor baby. Thank you for being so gentle with him.
That was smart with the towel! Well done!
Thanks for sharing his survival story. Your compassion and skills are exactly what he needs.
I have a special place in my heart for ginger kitties. My fur-child of 19 years was one. The girls from yesterday were so sweet and Freddie here is just a beautiful and strong boy. My heart 🧡
What a sweet boy! He is beautiful.
The world is a better place because you are in it Vanessa. Freddy must feel so much better!
So forlorn. But he hasn't given up. I pray his fears subside soon. Thanks Vanessa. Your patience is remarkable. Congratulations on the towel idea. Comfy kitty? Comfy Wrap? Idk, but maybe you should try to market it. Kinda like the Happy Hoodie.
Ohhh honey! I wish I could send him so many toys and treats to make him feel better. Best wishes to him and his owners. They must love him so so much!
What a good adorable boy!!! If there's a way to do something Vanessa will find it!!! If there's not she'll invent it!!!
Aww such a sweet orange baby. I remember watching the Kitten Lady talk about the experimental FIP treatments. One of her kitties had to go through it. I am so glad it is now possible to treat FIP!
Poor baby has been through a lot. My heart hurts for him and all the "stuff" he's had to endure.
If you watch the movie "Gifted", one of the stars of the show is a one eyed cat also named Fred.
Cute coincidence! 🥰😄
Great movie.
"FRED, FRED, FRED. He's a dude, he's a guy, and he has only one eye"
My same thoughts!
FIP... you go little man.
Until a bit more than 3 years ago FIP was generally considered untreatable and a death sentence.
Then they started treatment protocols but it was considered "experimental" and the drugs were expensive and difficult (if not outright illegal) to aquire.
About a year ago they set up official treatments and allowed vets general access and prescription authorization.
The only treatment prior to the most recent research was off-label use of antivirals from overseas. (A word-of-mouth black market treatment. But cat guardians will find a way.)
That towel, was a great stepping stone!
Such a joy to see a FIP survivor 🥰🥰🥰 my Scottish straight was diagnosed at 4 months old and is also a survivor 🥰
Also I will say that there is a theory that FIP can be caused by stress so it was very hard to get my 4 month old kitten desensitized to a lot as we didn’t want to stress her out more and cause a relapse of FIP
8:35 Poor little dude-he’s really been through it. Glad he’s getting the spa time he needs. 🧡
Can't wait to see & hear about your newest family member a beautiful cat and all your wonderful dogs.❤🐈🐕🐾💙💜🧡
Fredrick is a great name for a cat but I'd call him Lucky (cliche I know)
I love his little bow for his cone!!! He's so cute! And distinguished!!
Freddie makes sense to me. Like Freddie Mercury.
I love how you care about each cats stress level and handle them with such care. Cats are the best! 😊
He got a little bow AWWWW✨
@Zarkasme, it wasn't a bow it's a tie for the cone. It's to keep the cone from coming off if Freddie tries to take it off
@ oh. Now I feel very dumb…
M@@daniellewoolley8607 but it does look like a big bow (which is appropriate, because whoever adopts him is getting the best gift).
That is an adorable bow with a greater purpose.
@@Zarkasme.mp4You aren't the only person to comment on the cuteness of the "bow," don't feel bad!
Vanessa- I just love your empathy for a crying cat- and that towel was genius!
That poor boy, devastating disease. He looked so much better after the bath. I was used to my childhood cat, a Siamese, taking a shower with me. My first rescue made me being shredded while I tried to bathe him. Goodness me. I agree on the need for cats to learn to get wet.
most cats don't need bathing, except for some special cases. It's not good for their skin.
I'm really not liking this new trend.
@@oatsmcgoats8493I’ll agree that most cats don’t need baths while they’re healthy and able to groom themselves, but that is never guaranteed across their full lifespan.
My friend’s cat, who had almost no health issues in her youth, developed fecal incontinence and severe low back arthritis in her old age. She was always covered in poop and completely unable to reach down far enough to groom her lower body. She had painful mats in her lower body fur. Bathing and brushing her was necessary for her comfort and health, but was really hard for my friend because this cat was a fighter up to her very last days. If this cat had been habituated to bathing, her last days would have been easier on both her and my friend.
FIP treatments aren't FDA approved in the US so there's no way to get it legally, people who need it for their kitties literally have to buy it illegally like a drug deal :'( It's legal in the UK and Australia so I don't understand why the US won't approve it
It is so expensive in Canada, it's so devastating for the people and rescue who can't afford it :(
Honestly every thing i learn about US and their "healtcare" to animals and/or people makes me more and more sick to ym stomach
I read a comment about the pharmaceutical company that makes the cure. It implied that the company did not want it to be used/ approved for animals, they wanted it to be used for human illness. This was several years ago.
And now we have a looney in charge things are bound to get worse.
unfortunately the us sucks right now and will continue to suck for the next 4 years
What a beautiful boy Freddy is!!!🥰 I just want to hold him and snuggle with him.🥰 I am so happy he has beat the FIP.
That towel trick is a definite gem! Great work, as always, Vanessa!🌸
Excited about your getting a kitty! and looking forward to the videos you mentioned!
Our cat gets baths and he just looks at you with the most pitiful eyes and meows like this cutie. Always makes me laugh but he's such a good cat our vets love him because they can just give him pets and do whatever. He doesn't care as long as pets are involved. lol
