@amberdoww i haven't played vanilla terraria in YEARS and I only recently played a modded game 3 years ago. This game has so much tech now. Almost feels like a job to learn it again
"An enchanted boomerang or a flaming mace and 200 health should be enough" Me descending into the underground desert 5 minutes in the gameplay with a cactus sword, wood armor and bow, 17 arrows and a dream
At least make the Cactus Armor; it's not hard to get that much cactus and enemies that touch you will be knocked away and take what I'm guessing is not a significant amount of damage given where you are but at least the knock-back is nice.
Bit of a random reply, but thank you for introducing me to crosscode, it's one of my all time favourite games and I probably wouldn't have ever found it if it weren't for you.
I'm playing starlight river right now and have found like three conch shells but no other desert loot and I'm beginning to wonder if it's the mod or the seed 😂 I just want my chisel!
@jake_from_statefarm7209Just use Cheat Sheet or HERO's mod to get it if it's not in your world because, as AdamChromeE says, "Don't fish." I mean, you're playing modded Terraria anyway, right?
lol I’ll do you one better. I built a massive gemtree farm. It does look cool even if I really don’t need this crazy hoard of gems I’m sitting on now. They are nice for making different colored glass.
@lazysod3 I built a big gemtree farm for the sake of making money and, in retrospect, it was almost a total waste of time. The only real benefit I got was actually having enough Amber for crate potions.
It baffles me that I can’t sit through like 30 minutes worth of instructional content for school, but I’ll gladly watch and take notes on mining in Terraria for a whole hour
Another thing to add about herb farming: you actually can still get the staff/axe of regrowth's effect when using planter boxes, you just need actuators. As long as you are holding the staff/axe when flipping the lever (or other activation mechanism) to actuate the boxes, seeds will drop even if the herbs are not blooming. Just like when using blocks, you still need to wait until the herbs are fully grown, so only flip the lever when a majority of your herbs are ready for harvest.
15:30 maybe you mention it later, but you can also use the housing '' ? '' and spam that in a dessert. This will give a message in chat for when you hit a cave or a pyramid because it will say '' this room needs a light source '' or something. very usefull for finding pyramids....
one thing about sand traps. if you're too stubborn to recall and you can't tank the sand, break the sand from the top down and you wont take damage from extra sand. thanks for highlighting the importance of the underground desert. i always thought the underground desert experience was overtuned, but now i can see how it's useful ^^
pro tip : use a gravedigger shovel to explore the jungle early game, as the jungle is mainly composed of mud blocks (soft blocks), getting around will feel like cutting butter with a hot knife.
I love that the majority of information in here is minimally repeated, and if it is, it is reiterated in a more understandable way. This is good quality content.
Huh...this randomly appeared in my recommended, and it actually taught me that drills are borked. I knew I wasn't crazy preferring picks over drills, even if my friends say otherwise. Nice vid~ 👌
I absolutely adore that there are people nerdy and dedicated enough about video games to make such long and in-depth videos about this type of thing. Reminds me of Voduke's "Ranking every Kingdom Rush hero from worst to best" in that regard. It's a rather slim chance you'll recognize that though, haha.
So much attention to detail as well. So many of the visualizations were done with Terraria blocks rather than out-of-game graphics, which is just an incredible touch.
The funnier part about drills is that they are even more bugged or exploitable than just that. Mining buffs apply to drills if you use block replacement with it, unpractical but has niche uses in speedruns as we do craft drills for hardmode ores. Also on top of that from how I understand it because drills have a super low use time unlike pickaxes if you spam click (I'm talking +10cps) you can make them mine faster than normal. If you want to see an example go to Afroman's recent ML WR and around the 25m mark he does it to get some mythril ore. Does any of this matter in a non-speedrun context, no it doesn't. But it's funny to know!
yeah, I had played around with the blockswapping platforms thing, it was just so incredibly niche that I didn’t feel like it made the cut. It gets bottlenecked by placement speed, so it’s pretty much only applicable for things you don’t break in one hit.
I have 1.1k hours in this game and your guides have shown me new things and strategies i had no idea about! I can tell they'd also be very helpful for beginners too since you cover the basics as well, so i guess what i'm saying is you're pretty awesome, thanks for making these :P
13:45 It's worth noting that you can do this for every other plant in the game. Doesn't matter if it's blooming, as long as it's mature you can hit it with the rod and get seeds back.
24:18 for hellstone mining, there is a pretty effective way to mine for it when you are lazy and don't have obsidian skin potions - just go around the walls of fortresses and mine for veins of hellstone that generate near them.
after playing for who knows how long i just find this extremely annoying and slow when it's really not that hard to get obsidian skin potions especially if you've gotten the shadow key
Back in the day before hellstone made lava and it glowed through walls, this was the obvious way of doing it. I've just stuck to it ever since. I'm sure obsidian skin is easier but it's like tradition at this point. Just like using gravitation potions and crystal bullets on the twins because it used to be the best way of doing it. And making hell bridges with alternating gaps because Lava Slimes used to drop lava so your wall of flesh bridge would constantly be flooded with a thin layer of lava otherwise.
My personal caving tip: In a pinch, if you're looking for nearby caves, break a torch after placing it on the floor. Breaking a torch lets off small glowing particles that fall through the floor, potentially lighting up cavities below you.
@thorvaldspear the worm scarf is good if you get hit often but against bosses that deal have a really strong attack for example moon lord with his deathray the brain of counfusion dodge can save you from dying while with the worm scarf you would still take a lot of damage and you could die, thats why i think the brain of confusion is better than the worm scarf plus if you are playing terraria on one hp it helps a lot
23:58 Hellstone can also be detected using Dangersense Potions, which is useful when you don't have many Obsidian Skin Potions and need to make the most of it.
46:47 I just recently had a statue trap in a cabin that was connected to a king's statue, I didn't even know about the cabin until I saw my NPC population getting brutalized lol
quick tip, if your jungle side desert is close to a cave and you want a thunder zapper or a storm spear, you can look for the underground desert deep below to immediately get to the bottom half without having to go through the underground desert. This is very unreliable though, since it requires some luck
Just found this channel and I gotta say. My two favorite hyper fixations Rainworld and Terraria covered in-depth in one place? In this economy? Absurd! Thank you for existing hit RUclipsr Sorbet Cafe.
Maybe I've seen the defense video before, I can't tell, but seeing that and this video back to back not only makes me want to play terraria again, but makes me wonder why the fuck you don't have more subs and why I haven't seen your stuff before. These videos are glorious and filled with knowledge
The statue trap section reminded me of one of my favorite memories of this game, I was playing with my cousin on the switch version and I had made a unicorn trap in our house and it was completely full of unicorns, it was so funny
I also just realized the logic behind placed gems spawning more in snow biomes: In the game, when you place any block that can absorb water such as stones or bricks, they can keep water sources(main puddles or pre-waterfall sections)inside of themselves for as long as the player doesn't mine them again. This, in fact, doesn't happen in minecraft, so people didn't expect this to be the case at all until they tried it, thinking this was done for gameplay reasons(Liquid source cheesing like lava). This causes the water to elevate the generated gems from inside the stone cracks, so when the biome becomes frozen, the water freezes whilst the gems remain stuck on surface.
32:25 hardmode underground desert contains one item I always farm for in my playthroughs - Ancient Horn that summons a rideable basilisk. I love this thing, it gives you the speed better than hermes boots, and very good turning control, something that the Unicorn mount can't provide. If I use the basilisk, I don't need a slot for hermes boots, therefore I can get more damage or defense. I can't stress enough how amazing the basilisk mount is.
Im going to be honest. im in school and im just done math class as of watching and writing this and i have been more locked in on terraria mining speed buffs and tech than equations.
about weapons on 15:00 the dearclops sentry also produce light when placed(and when it attacks) like the explosive setry, but it is way smaller and for a sort period another thing is that magma stone (the acessory of the inferno) makes melee weapons produce light so something like nightedge (a weapons that can produce a little bit of light) can produce ALOT of light while keeping you safe and dont even use touch those helped alot but thanks for the explosive sentry tip that one i didnt know
If only I knew all this when me and my friends did our master playthrough a few years ago, literally every single one of these in depth videos you’ve made has taught me multiple things that I genuinely had no idea about. Like from a different video you mentioned how you can fish in lava anywhere and get the same rewards, all three of us were sitting in the underworld in our fishing gear getting absolutely smacked by imps and skeletal serpents. But anyway you’ve got really good videos dude, keep it up!
This isn't just 57 and a half minutes of an expert's knowledge... it's an expert player's deep thorough analysis of the game, it's mechanics, and every weapons stats.
okay it wasn't mentioned in the video, but Bone Torches also create larger light particles upon breaking than any other torch does, making it useful for a quick and easy way to see what's beneath you when mining underground (plus they're useful in general to have as they do not negatively affect torch luck, which is especially useful in biomes that have their own torch as regular torches will negate possible luck increases from biome torches but NOT from torch luck itself, which used to be the case when torch luck was first introduced)
@hexamine666 it's the easiest way to cheese the moonlord at the easier difficulties probably won't work on legendary though haven't tried it yet 100% works on expert
a tip about life crystals: mushroom biomes will almost always have a life crystal. Theres only been like 1 out of 10 times that I've not seen one in it, and a lot of the time there's actually 2 or even 3+ in one biome
Thank you so much for your guides. I had this game installed for years and just finally started and omg it’s amazing but I would be so lost without all your hard work. Seriously thank you.
In all my hours of playing I never knew explosive traps existed. I had only ever seen explosives hooked up to dead man's chests and to detonators. Thank you for this info
Sorbet, I wanna thank you for this high-effort long form highly edited content. This is a joy. This is my favorite kind of video to watch and hyper fixate on. Keep doin' what makes you happy.
Wow, this guide was super in-depth! One niche thing I think was missing was the Digging Molecart, which can mine 22 blocks per second, or ~29 with the minecart upgrade kit, which can be a lot considering you don't need any mining speed buffs!
I've played this game years and there is a lot of information I had no idea about in here. Fantastic job with your thorough explanation and attention to details!
New to the game, and it's amazing how much is in this game for how small it is. Hyped to play with my buddies and show off some of this learned knowledge.
Holy shit you the amount of information! You must've put so much time into all of this research. I'll be coming back to this video REGULARLY! You, sir, are a legend. You are very much appreciated.
Holy hell, 57 whole minutes of pure expert's knowledge. Sorbet's guides are treasure.
I broke the 666 likes curse np
new response just dropped
Thank you 🙏

@amberdoww i haven't played vanilla terraria in YEARS and I only recently played a modded game 3 years ago.

i was expecting you to say "this strategy also works in minecraft"

Bit of a random reply, but thank you for introducing me to crosscode, it's one of my all time favourite games and I probably wouldn't have ever found it if it weren't for you.
exactly the same for me, ancien chisel is one of the first accessories I try to get yet I somehow never knew that, will help a lot in the future

It baffles me that I can’t sit through like 30 minutes worth of instructional content for school, but I’ll gladly watch and take notes on mining in Terraria for a whole hour
huge difference when you have to do something and when you want to do something.
@Deceit-hx7ey I think you just described why unschooling-type homeschooling can work.
It is because schools suck at teaching things we want to learn
Because Sorbet is a great teacher.
ADHD moment
Another thing to add about herb farming: you actually can still get the staff/axe of regrowth's effect when using planter boxes, you just need actuators. Huh...this randomly appeared in my recommended, and it actually taught me that drills are borked.
I knew I wasn't crazy preferring picks over drills, even if my friends say otherwise. Nice vid~ 👌
Real ones knew this was gonna be an hour long
Can't wait to spend 1 hour watching this
"There's no way I'm watching a 57 minute video on mining"
Already halfway done
Same.
"but you don't understand, casually no one gets mining gear or reforges" - svings probably
yeah he say that he do community pools to discovering, but that just look like ''dude trust me'' argument
@Terras_192 He tends to act like a contrarian on a lot of things.
I do!
I know what kingdom rush is and now I need this video thank you internet friend for showing me that this exists
@novinovi- I did not expect that, you're very welcome.
Holy shit I love kingdom rush
@JustTombstone Same.
The thunder zapper is actually pretty decent. It out-DPS-es the diamond staff in a lot of situations.
The only non clickbait, in depth, thorough and fully thought out investigation into the science of mining in Terraria
Amazing video
So much attention to detail as well. So many of the visualizations were done with Terraria blocks rather than out-of-game graphics, which is just an incredible touch.
man when this guy says comprehensive he means it

seeing haboo just being normal outside of stardew is so weird for me
Meanwhile me: hit block, get thing, be happy
2:20 Pro tip: farm cactuses and shimmer for infinite free pumpkin pies.
Terraria players trying not to minmax everything challenge
31:20 Hey, Storm Spear in particular is a very good weapon.
I have 1.1k hours in this game and your guides have shown me new things and strategies i had no idea about! I can tell they'd also be very helpful for beginners too since you cover the basics as well, so i guess what i'm saying is you're pretty awesome, thanks for making these :P
This is legitimately the most well done Terraria video i’ve ever watched
this guide is so good what the hell
13:45
It's worth noting that you can do this for every other plant in the game. Doesn't matter if it's blooming, as long as it's mature you can hit it with the rod and get seeds back.
you can, yeah, it's just only really useful for deathweed and blinkroot since other herbs bloom consistently
@sorbetcafe Definitely also good for shiverthorn and definitely worth mentioning in the video. But that's kind of nitpicky.
@sorbetcafe waterleaf is also very inconsistant
24:18 for hellstone mining, there is a pretty effective way to mine for it when you are lazy and don't have obsidian skin potions - just go around the walls of fortresses and mine for veins of hellstone that generate near them.

Don't even need to do that. The pots found in the underworld can drop them regularly and are dense in houses @B1esky
@Winasaurus Lava slimes actually do still drop lava in Expert Mode and above. It's only Classic difficulty where they do not.
@TwiNaga Yeah, I know they do in Expert mode now. But back in the day, they used to do it in Classic mode.
My personal caving tip: In a pinch, if you're looking for nearby caves, break a torch after placing it on the floor. Breaking a torch lets off small glowing particles that fall through the floor, potentially lighting up cavities below you.
Best. Guide. Ever. Gonna be sending this to all my friends!
i cant believe i'm still learning more about the game after 1000+ hours. Great guide. 👍
7:40 another reason to pick crimson
what about the worm scarf tho
@thorvaldspear the worm scarf is good if you get hit often but against bosses that deal have a really strong attack for example moon lord with his deathray the brain of counfusion dodge can save you from dying while with the worm scarf you would still take a lot of damage and you could die, thats why i think the brain of confusion is better than the worm scarf plus if you are playing terraria on one hp it helps a lot
@Rezboni Interesting, I haven't considered that aspect before. Maybe it's finally time to try out Crimson.
@Rezboni...Or play on the drunk seed & get both!
Just now noticed a little trolling at 25:20
23:58 Hellstone can also be detected using Dangersense Potions, which is useful when you don't have many Obsidian Skin Potions and need to make the most of it.
I feel like I attended a college lecture. Thank you Professor Sorbet.
Your videos are so well made! Even though I'm a veteran of Terraria, I still find myself watching your videos all the way through. Keep it up!
"they aren't the best ore but they are usually good enough" same
46:47 I just recently had a statue trap in a cabin that was connected to a king's statue, I didn't even know about the cabin until I saw my NPC population getting brutalized lol

15:32 If you want to pyramid hunt just use the housing query on the bottom of your screen in the desert until it says "this room is too big"
Just found this channel and I gotta say. My two favorite hyper fixations Rainworld and Terraria covered in-depth in one place? In this economy? Absurd! Thank you for existing hit RUclipsr Sorbet Cafe.
these tutorials are a godsend, so well made and just an hour of non stop information. was definitely worth the watch
i love how post moon lord is when the most common ore becomes useful
This looks like math school, but it's easily better and more entertaining.
31:12 Why is there a hamster in the zapper? Get him out!
tip put the video on 2x
Maybe I've seen the defense video before, I can't tell, but seeing that and this video back to back not only makes me want to play terraria again, but makes me wonder why the fuck you don't have more subs and why I haven't seen your stuff before. These videos are glorious and filled with knowledge
I love the tiny little slugcat doodles throughout the video!
57 minutes? This is a miner epic. 😉
37:33 that world has the temple in the desert. that's pretty cool.
49:39 you can also break the sand from the top which makes it so that no sand falls on you and all the damage you take is the suffocation damage
these are 3 years of studying hard everyday every hour.
The statue trap section reminded me of one of my favorite memories of this game, I was playing with my cousin on the switch version and I had made a unicorn trap in our house and it was completely full of unicorns, it was so funny
Never thought i would find scugs in a terraria mining video!
You have such a great way of tying information to each other! Some of the best content I have seen on youtube, let alone in the terraria community!
I don't really have anything to add, but there was so much work put into this that I want to do my part with the algo.
7:45 "The molten pickaxe-"
*grabs palladium pickaxe
I also just realized the logic behind placed gems spawning more in snow biomes:
In the game, when you place any block that can absorb water such as stones or bricks, they can keep water sources(main puddles or pre-waterfall sections)inside of themselves for as long as the player doesn't mine them again.
57 minutes of pure gold.
i think i just found the one piece almost an hour of a guide from a pro about mining? definitely the one piece of terraria
I think a lot of people prefer getting the wolf mount in 1.4.4, the two have similar functions
@sorbetcafe but lizard :)
@sorbetcafeWith the rideable Miraidon resource pack, the Basilisk is worth it for sure!
Because you get a freakin' legendary future paradox Pokemon in Terraria!
holy hell I hope they notice this and fix the drills lol
Im going to be honest. im in school and im just done math class as of watching and writing this and i have been more locked in on terraria mining speed buffs and tech than equations.
about weapons on 15:00
the dearclops sentry also produce light when placed(and when it attacks) like the explosive setry, but it is way smaller and for a sort period
another thing is that magma stone (the acessory of the inferno) makes melee weapons produce light
so something like nightedge (a weapons that can produce a little bit of light) can produce ALOT of light while keeping you safe and dont even use touch
those helped alot
but thanks for the explosive sentry tip that one i didnt know
Outstanding tutorial and analysis here. Possibly even the best terraria youtube tutorial I’ve ever seen. You deserve way more subscribers
This was amazing! I have no doubt you made a big research to make this video, but it was really worth it!
This isn't just 57 and a half minutes of an expert's knowledge... it's an expert player's deep thorough analysis of the game, it's mechanics, and every weapons stats.
Outstanding job, thank you.
Jolly good show.
You,sir. Deserve way more peeps peeping your content!
okay it wasn't mentioned in the video, but Bone Torches also create larger light particles upon breaking than any other torch does, making it useful for a quick and easy way to see what's beneath you when mining underground (plus they're useful in general to have as they do not negatively affect torch luck, which is especially useful in biomes that have their own torch as regular torches will negate possible luck increases from biome torches but NOT from torch luck itself, which used to be the case when torch luck was first introduced)
I LOVE MINERS!!!!!
11/10 video, I've played this game for more than 10 years and a lot of this info was stuff I never knew.
Also scugs!!!!
Wake up babe hour long video about mining in terraria just dropped
If I ever need iron, I usually just shimmer anvils that you can buy from the merchant. Really useful if you're making a giant railway
holy shit this is actually so fucking smart
@hexamine666 it's the easiest way to cheese the moonlord at the easier difficulties probably won't work on legendary though haven't tried it yet 100% works on expert
a tip about life crystals: mushroom biomes will almost always have a life crystal. Theres only been like 1 out of 10 times that I've not seen one in it, and a lot of the time there's actually 2 or even 3+ in one biome
@derpydudee might be wrong but I'm pretty sure it is
these videos are so lovely and well researched. im tapped out on terraria at the moment but i still love learning quirks of the game.
I'm so happy this is verbal. Just imagining the wall of text, even broken up by pictures, is horrifying 😨
"Explosive traps are extremely rare sometimes only seeing one an entire world" I'm sitting over here and I've encountered five in my main world 😮
This justifies the fact that I'm mostly clueless while playing this game. I just wanted a better pickaxe, bro... I appreciate your knowledge.
56:55 omg, best quote of the whole video xD
The mouse holding the nebula pickaxe after 11:00 was so funny
Thank you so much for your guides. I had this game installed for years and just finally started and omg it’s amazing but I would be so lost without all your hard work. Seriously thank you.
This guy uses the weirdest vocabulary I have ever heard but I love it
Scugs are much appreciated!
14:40 Jester Arrows can also be used for illumination against any wall, the colors may throw you off a bit though.
A hour long video on mining with hidden Easter eggs. Pog chanp
In all my hours of playing I never knew explosive traps existed. I had only ever seen explosives hooked up to dead man's chests and to detonators. Thank you for this info
Even as a veteran i still found this very interesting. I was captivated to watch almost like a documentary!
Sorbet, I wanna thank you for this high-effort long form highly edited content.
