    This cake was sculpted with 100% chocolate mud cake on a simple armature. I lay and fit the cakes together in a way that they will stay completely stable for me to sculpt upon. I use a special mix of chocolate ganache to do this, the ganache goes on in a paste like consistency but then sets.
    Once I have all the cakes stacked then I get out my trusty knife and start carving away. For this process I always use a skull reference for correct anatomical form. I usually print out several references as well.
    Using my references for the character, I then take a special sculptors mix of modelling chocolate and begin to lay down the foundation of the face, this process us sculptors like to call 'blocking out'. Once the blocking out is done to get the basic shape of the features, I then start carving away, shaping and sculpting all the intricate details of the face. Once this is done I will sometimes cover the piece with a thin layer of fondant, or just leave it as modelling chocolate.
    Once the piece is covered and looking exactly how I want it, I will then start the painting process. The painting part is one of my favourite moments, this is when the piece truly comes alive. I intentionally choose pieces with bold make-up or special effects make-up for this reason alone.

    Why do you add glad wrap

    • @heididahlenburgcakeartist283
      @heididahlenburgcakeartist283  5 лет назад

      Hi Dianna, the gladwrap is added to the parts that I will be joining, it just keeps it safe from drying out. The wrap comes off the cake as I join the icing seams.
