    Thank you for speaking on Jason's musicianship and integrity. I feel so bad that he's not talked about more. People praise him constantly for his time in Metallica, talk about how much they wish he never left, but then don't check out any of his projects from after his departure while also having the gall to praise him for having the balls to leave. It's weird that he's not more popular. He's a good player, singer and just an all around down to earth guy. Perplexing is all I have to say.

    • @elmokirkwood3969
      @elmokirkwood3969 Год назад

      It’s actually not perplexing, not at all. His being a nice guy has zero to do with music success so let’s get that out of the way and let’s clear up the fact that he’s a decent singer and player, too. So whats left? Songs. Yep. Now, I don’t know if you listen to what kind of music is popular on the radio, specifically rock radio anymore but I think you should listen to some of it and then listen to Jason’s music. I think you’ll notice some major differences in production, style, substance, and most importantly the hooks and catchiness. Jason has never and will never write a hit song. He’s the least popular player from a band that’s not making radio music any more and he’s been out of that band for 20 years. I hope all this helps with your confusion. and I’m not hating. Look through this feed if you want to find my breakdown on why i think he’s the best bass player Metallica ever had and why I think he’s better than cliff burton. But yeah… I had to say something

    I saw Metallica with Newsted and Trujillo and I’ve seen Ozzy with Trujillo and Newsted. It was kind of wild seeing them both in 2004 and the bass players were essentially swapped from the last time I had seen either band.

      Honestly the hate against him has always geared towards the side of pettiness or envy. People mad he left, people mad he has a different tone and playing style than Cliff (the same people who would have called him fake if he tried to play the same 🙄), mad that he was in Metallica or played for Ozzy when "there's so many better bass players" and some other incoherent drivel.

    • @irish3183
      @irish3183 Год назад +2

      I'm guessing part of it was when he was in Metallica, he had the unenviable task of replacing Cliff and people didn't want some new guy, they wanted Cliff. Same kind of people who whine about Metallica dying when Cliff died, their first three albums are yhe onky real Metallica albums, all that usual bullshit.

    Newstead would still be with metallica if hetfield would have gave newsted some room to express his artistic abilities on his own. Hetfield at the time said all members give 100% of their devotion to metallica or you are gone. Hetfield now has changed his mind on the issue. You can still give your band 100% while trying different things and ideas, everyone needs creative space to explore and challenge their musical abilities..

    Hot take: Newstead is better than Cliff and was the best bass player that Metallica had. Cliff was Cliff, he’s a legend, but honestly I never cared for his tone or phrasing on bass, it never sounded right in Metallica to me and when you listen to his isolated tracks he’s pretty sloppy and all over the place. Robert Trujillo is also a beast but, again, very sloppy live and his playing on the albums doesn’t really catch my attention or get my hyped. Now… Newstead, the goofy dork fan Boyer who wore Metallica shirts during Metallica shows more than is ever acceptable haha.. the kid they mixed entirely out of “..And justice..” and the dude who spent his tenure with the band living in the shadow of a legend while using a pic instead of his fingers (which he received so much hate for) yet, despite all this, I think that if you listen to the rehearsal tape from his audition, back to the very moment he first played with the band, he just nails it. Nails it down so fuckin hard. His tone is punchy and crisp with a enough gain to really growl when he dug in. His playing was aggressive and confident, right in the pocket. The pick he got so much shit for playing with actually suited the band sound better, in my opinion, as he was able to keep Up technically with the precision of the riffs but also kept him on time and pushing forward all the while. His bass composition on subsequent albums was always underrated and the near omission of his playing entirely in the mix of And Justice set the template for people dismissing what he brought to the table. His parts were thoughtful, complimentary, and musical. He was exactly what the band needed to turn out a technically intense prog metal juggernaut like And Justice For All and likewise the perfect played to lie down the grooves and keep right in the pocket on the black album; he solidified the sound that turned Metallica into the biggest metal band in the world. So, was he the best bass player ever? No. But he knew is limitations and he always okayed to the best of his ability and did so with an enthusiasm that was maybe dorky, but exactly the kind of thing the band needed to transition into what they were becoming. Like I said, Cliff was a bass legend and he will always be part of what made the first three albums sounds the way they did but his old school metal , stoner rock approach never meshed with the way James recorded his guitars to me and I just think his untimely passing has lent to people claiming him to be the best metal bass player ever but I never was sold on it. I’m a Newstead fan when it comes to Metallica ( who I don’t really listen to anymore and never was that obsessed with it begin with) haha. What can I say?
