    Michelle, your videos are so inspiring; you are so easy to relate to. I'm currently student teaching, and will graduate in May with a Masters and my teaching certification. As I begin preparing for interviews and teacher recruitment fairs, watching your videos have been very beneficial. I have created a website that shows many of my strengths and highlights many lessons but I plan on also creating a binder portfolio so that I have evidence in my hand of everything. Thank you for taking the time to create your videos! I highly appreciate them and I look forward to watching every weekend!

    I purchased your portfolio template(s) when I learned that I needed a teaching portfolio for an OOS (out of state interview). I had an interview at a top school and wanted something to help show what I've done throughout my time teaching. Your templates were the perfect guide. I stumbled across your teaching channel and saw you demonstrate how you used your pages to create the whole package. I added photos of my classroom, bold texts to share teaching styles, routines, organization and more. Each page you created helped me have a clear vision for essentials needed in the portfolio. I got the job, and I would like to say thank you. I know that having a clean and well prepared portfolio helped me stand out! You did a phenomenal job creating this product and I will recommend it to others! This does not do the work for you, but it does help you organize your information to complete an awesome portfolio. Happy Teaching!

    Thank you so much! I prepared for an interview by practicing responses to questions from your other video, but I did not have time to update my portfolio to this degree from my college lesson plans from two years ago until afterwards. When I finished my portfolio and sent it to the school's administration, thanking them again for their time, I basically said "thanks but no thanks" on their only open position teaching 5th (since I prefer 2nd). They replied with how impressed they were and are discussing rearranging teachers to offer me a 3rd grade position! Thank you so much for all the amazing and effective content you create. :)

    • @jaydel3
      @jaydel3 4 года назад

      Why do you hate 5th grade, just curious.

    • @mackenzihill8762
      @mackenzihill8762 4 года назад

      @@jaydel3 I do not hate 5th graders at all! Nor did I mean to imply that. As I said above, I prefer younger kids. That is the age group for which I...
      ...prepared most for in college,
      ...interned in college,
      ...purchased an extensive classroom library for out of my own pocket,
      ...purchased materials and resources for 2nd grade standards out of my pocket,
      ...wrote all of my lesson plans to date based on 2nd grade standards,
      ...have several years of experience, and
      ...am generally best prepared for and capable of teaching.
      Does that make sense? If ever I have to teach 5th, I am sure it would be equally rewarding, but I would have to start all over with all new standards, all new lesson plans, purchase a ton of new books (because 5th graders are mostly reading chapter books and some 2nd graders are still learning how to sound out many words), and I can't afford to make those investments on the last of my salary from last year. I am also headed into a private school setting where I will make even less (but the environment is better and so worth it). I know there are grants available through Donors Choose and such, but I'm hoping to land a job in a grade level for which I am ready (or closer to ready).

    I would love to see what your first portfolio looked like. I will be getting ready to interview for the first time, as a new teacher, and I don't have a whole lot to put in my portfolio. I really wish I had known to work on one before starting my internship!

    • @andreasummers1955
      @andreasummers1955 7 лет назад +12

      Hi Olivia, you can add so much to your portfolio! You can write at least three lesson plans (a literacy, math, and science one), design your classroom using a website and add pictures of it, add information on how you would communicate with parents etc. just add things that you would use in your classroom when you have one. Good luck!

    Hi Michelle,
    I love your videos. I am an elementary ed teaching candidate from Connecticut and your channel has really given me a perspective on what a teacher's day to day life is. One video I would like to see is what advice you would give to a student who is in the process of becoming a teacher. Thanks! :)

    Great information - I am not a primary school educator but I am preparing a portfolio to take with me on interviews for a college lecturer. I love love love all your videos. I have purchased your portfolio pack, resume pack and the interview packs. I am so in love with them all and working on them as we speak. I would love to see a mock interview on how you would actually use the portfolio in the interview. Personally I always bring a note pad with my notes to an interview but I always feel o strange to look at my notes when asked a question. Just curious on what it would actually look like in actuality. Thanks so much for all that you do - all your videos, TPT packs and all. Very helpful and tons of great ideas!

    Very impressive! Saving this should I ever need it! I've never created a portfolio. I have no idea how I managed to get a job ten years ago - I didn't know the answers to any of the questions! So when I went through an intense interview for our Teacher of the Year process, I took random pages and notes that were SO helpful. I didn't know where to begin to put them together officially. Your binder is the perfect visual example! Thank you for your willingness to share!

    I don't know how many times I have watched this, but I am working on slowly revamping my portfolio for the future if I ever decide to leave my current job. And since it's a new school year, I have all year to keep it in mind and get pictures and items to put into my portfolio without having to look through all my old files (that I'm not honestly that happy with anyway)! Thank you so much for putting this video up and going through everything with us, it has truly helped!
    Also, I know you may not even be checking these comments anymore since this video is so old, but I'm anxiously awaiting your next mail haul video! I sent you something a while ago, and I want to make sure you got it! :)

I have my degree & certifications for foreign languages 5-12 but the secondary education students were not required to do this portfolio for graduation. Only elementary education majors! I have a portfolio that I threw together years ago before an interview but it has not really been updated. I have an interview in a few weeks and I watched this video (along with your interview tips and resume tips) and I plan on revising the portfolio and resume again this week.

    Do you have any advice for those of us who are student teaching on what to include in the Classroom Management section? I don't have my own procedures, rules, transitioning strategies in place and able to photograph since I am in my host teacher's classroom. Is it ok to have sections for things I would do in my future classroom? Like how I would keep an organized classroom/library, how I would track student behavior? If I want to use Class Dojo in the future, would it be ok to describe how I want to use it and include a picture like you did? Thanks so much!

    I love, love, love your videos! They have been a huge help. With learning more about integrating technology in the classroom, what would be the best Continuing Education class I could take as a brand new teacher? Or what CEU/professional development classes have you found most helpful?

    Really good video! Your portfolio sections are not the same we must have in my district but it gave me a lot of ideas. Thanks!
