Dustin. My son and I completed the Cobra slash down exhaust install this afternoon. I don’t know what we would have done without your video. We followed it step by step. At the end, we had a terrible time getting the bottom end cap/slash down piece installed. It was really tight. It took like an extra hour to get the holes to line up to get the screw in. If any other Shadow owners out there want to tackle this project, this video is a must. Thanks again Dustin!
I am so happy to hear that this video helped you out! I too had troubles getting the tips in. I had to use a rubber mallet to get them in! It helps to keep the heat shields loose until the tips are on as well. I am at least glad you were able to get some useful tips from the video! What do you think of the sound and performance of the exhaust?
Thanks for the video, installed mine last night. HOLY COW THEYRE LOUD! videos don't do any justice for sound! Anyone thinking of these pipes be prepared for noise! Thx again for the step by step!
You’re welcome! Yeah, they have a bit of sound to them. I think they have the right amount of balance. They aren’t overbearing when you are going down the road, but put out good sound when you want them to. Thanks for watching!
I second this… literally just installed mine tonight and finished at 10:00pm, I said “sheeeit ya know what, they can’t be that loud let me just close my garage door and fire it up real quick”… Literally scared me at first I was NOT expecting that based off the videos on YT, they sound awesome tho!

It isn’t too bad. I had a hard time loosening the bracket where it holds on the stock exhaust. Then make sure not to over torque the nuts on the motor. You definitely don’t want to snap one of those. Then I would also recommend replacing the copper gaskets. Hope that help as well.
Thanks to your step-by-step instructions, first thing did was put an impact on the bolts you had trouble removing on muffler bracket. Impact took them off with no problem.

Thanks for watching TWOWHEELD friends! I know the video gets really long, but I wanted to make sure I gave you all the detailed step by step instructions I could. This way, any of you that would like to pause at each step, you can! Total install time took me about 4 1/2 hours, but without recording a video, it would have only taken a couple hours or less. If you are here and don’t want to watch the install, skip to the end and give a listen. A before and after comparison will be coming in a feature video! Don’t forget to Subscribe! ✌🏼
I found using carb cleaner or brake cleaner on a rag allows you to remove the carbon deposits out of the exhaust port on the heads without damaging the heads.
I wish I could help. There may be someone who pops on that may be able to give you some advice. There is a good Honda Shadow group on Facebook that may know an answer as well. Not sure if you follow them or not.
Thank you! I love how these sound! I will do a before and after sound comparison video next week on them. The video will also allow you to hear the sound under load. These increased power and gave good sound! Thanks for watching!
You’re welcome. Glad it helped you make your determination of what you would like to do! The baffles in the stock exhaust had already been removed prior to installing the Cobras. So if you want to go back prior to hear what it sounds like, that would give you an idea. It makes it louder, but does make it kind of “tinny” sounding and no performance increase. Changing the exhaust increased the power a bit, and doing the carb and air box changes gave it even more. Thanks for watching!
I am not sure on the actual muffler on the inside of the pipe, as I have never taken them out, but there is a copper gasket between the pipes and the heads at the flange.
Hey there. No exhaust leaks on my end. I didn’t change the copper gaskets, either. It is something I would recommend changing, though. Did you put new gaskets on? Did you torque to spec? Be sure not to over torque as well. Bummer that you have to pop it back apart!
Double check that the clamps are located at the correct placement and that it is compressing it tight. If the clamps aren’t on the slotted portion enough, it may not be completely gripping to seal.
As far as I know, I don’t believe they are needed if you don’t want them. It might change the air flow a little bit, but I can’t see them making a big impact.
Hello. please tell me, after changing this muffler, do you need a power commander? Or does the engine need to be synchronized? or nothing needs to be done and just need to change the muffler.thancks.
There is always mixed answers to this question. I initially changed out the exhaust without doing anything in addition. I ran the bike for over a year that way with no issues. There were some “pops” from time to time, but nothing major. Then, last year, I changed the jets in the carburetor to a Stage 2 jet. The snorkel box for the air cleaner was also removed and a K&N air filter was added to increase air flow. If you have a newer fuel injected Shadow, it would be almost the same situation. Either run it and try it with just the exhaust, or just plan to put some kind of fuel management system on and change out the air filter. That’s where it gets to be mixed answers. If you are changing the air flow, you need a tuner, if it’s just exhaust, it’s the 50/50 answer. Hope that helps some.
Thanks for making this video. I'm about to put the exact same exhaust on my 2005 shadow spirit vt750dc. What year is your bike? If you said it I didn't catch it. Thanks again for such a great video!
You’re welcome! Be sure to put in new copper gaskets. I skipped this step and it’s fine, but it is good to put new in. Mine is a 2007 VT750C2. Good luck on the install and thanks for watching!
I’m not entirely sure. The instructions say to go in the order that I did, but you want to make sure to keep the clamps loose on both until you get the tips on. This can create a problem if everything is too tight.
i just installed my cobra streetrod slash down on my 2019 honda shadow phatom. is the pipe flange suppose to be flush to the motor? mine did not sit well flushed and im sure i positioned it correctly. can you provide a picture pls?
Dax, the pipe itself will seat firmly against the copper gasket. The flange itself does not seat tight against the motor. It is raised out. I’m not sure how to provide a picture in the comments, but the flange does sit out from the motor. Make sure you torque the nut to spec, and not over tighten.
TWOWHEELD oh okay thank you for the prompt response and positive confirmation that I did right lol! I used your video the whole time and been a lot of help! Thank you again!!
Sure thing! It sounds like you did it correctly. I did take a couple pics to send you, but then realized I couldn’t. If you have Instagram, you could message me there and I can send you a photo or two. I am glad to hear my video helped you! Enjoy those new pipes!
I have the exact same bike. Same year, same model. I put the same pipes on. I too had a few backfire pops. It only lasted for the first hour or so. Never did have to rejet the carbs. Been over a year now and it runs great.
Th ate good to hear! I don’t get much for popping now either. I wonder if it would run just a little better though if the jets were done. I’m not exactly sure if the fuel to air mixture is quite correct or not. I know you and I are not the only ones who didn’t rejet. 😆
I bought my bike used and it came with cobra pipes but I'm not sure if it's had the carbs re jetted. It runs just fine, a little bit of pop on de acceleration but not much to bother me
@@gamerbot101I am sure it is all good, but you could always pull a spark plug to find out if it is running lean or hot. Then adjust the carb if needed. Mine gets a bit of pop at times, and my carb hasn’t had any adjustment. Nonetheless, the Honda motors can handle some stress! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I’m not certain. If you did, you would definitely want to leave them loose. You would need them loose to be able to get to the acorn nuts and to put the tips on. It’s been a couple years since I installed these, so I am trying to go off memory. Not sure if it would interfere with anything other than what was mentioned above.
Very good video! I just got a bike just like this. Can’t say an exhaust is in the near future, but if it was, THIS is the one I would put on there. Looks upgraded but clean, and sounds amazing. I’ve heard sometimes you can shim the throttle needle instead of jetting. Did you end up changing the jets?
Thank you. This exhaust completely livened up the bike and it sounds amazing! I did end up removing the snorkel from the air box, added a K&N filter, and put in the Stage 2 carb kit. That made a difference as well. I did do a video where I spoke about those upgrades. If you dig around in the Shadowday playlist, you should run across it. 😊 Thanks for watching! Ride safe!
I have a quick question for ya. Did your bike come with the bracket on the foot rest or did you get after market? My boot heal keeps resting on the pipe. Looking for a solution thanks!
That guard was on there when I got the bike. I assumed it was factory. I could see where your foot would rest against the pipe. I have to be careful on my Road King with that. I have melted the heal of my boot on it. Lol. There should be something out there you can put on for aftermarket.
I am not sure in the brand of the saddle bags. They were in the bike when I bought it and there are no tags or badges on them. The single carb did get rebuilt into a stage 2 and the air box was opened up as well. I will go see if I can find that video in the folder I sent to you in another comment and come back and drop it here.
I believe this is the video talking about the upgrades to the carburetor and air box. Honda Shadow Upgrade Update ruclips.net/video/hZTcQtBRxGg/видео.html
Great vid. Exactly what I needed. I got these pipes thinking there was baffles in them but can't really tell. Do you know if these come with baffles preinstalled or do we have to buy 3rd party?
Glad you found this video to be helpful! They sound great how they come! I honestly am not sure what they have inside them! I was going to dig into them a little to find out, but haven’t done so yet since I was please with how they sound. I enjoyed the Shadow before, but now I love riding it!
Not after putting the exhaust on. Nothing got changed. About a year later, I did have the carburetor built out and opened up the air box and then everything was tuned. It opened up some power.
Amazing video brother. I just installed thesw Chrome Cobra Pipes on my 07 Shadow Spirit. I followed the instructions of your video. Super easy. Two questions, my bike sounds and runs amazing after installation so do i need to install a Jet kit and which stage ? and also, after about 8 minutes pipes get super hot, like you could literally fry an egg on it in under 2 minutes, is that normal ? Thanks dude.
Glad the video was able to help you out! Yeah, the pipes will get hot. It may change the way the bike runs a little bit. There is always mixed answers on whether you need to rejet or not. I ran the bike for a year before doing anything additional and it ran just fine. I have since put a stage 2 jet kit in and removed the snorkel box and added a K&N air filter. I did a video on what was done as well. Hope that helps answer that question a little.
@@TWOWHEELD Excellent brother. thanks so much for the info, super useful. Yeah, Mine starts without the choke in this current warm weather, the throttle is so responsive that it feels like a racing bike and the sound is insanely clean and loud. But I'm kind of afraid to run it without the jet cause some people say it could burn stuff inside the engine. I'll also get a stage 2 kit, even though I am using the stock filter.
Some say you don’t need to change the jets unless you change the airflow. Changing the exhaust does change the air back pressure. If you change the jets, I would consider changing the air flow as well. You could have it tuned by a professional. I am definitely not a professional, only sharing what I did and what worked for me. After I made all the changes, I can fire up without a choke. You can hear that air getting sucked in as well. Hope that helps ya.
@@TWOWHEELD Thanks a lot for the tip brother. That makes sense. I will have it tuned by a pro for sure. Can't wait to see an even better performance after the process has been done. Thanks and Ride safe man🙌🏻
I have upgraded the jets in the carburetor and changed the air cleaner to enhance the over all performance since this video. If you have fuel injection, I would look at getting a tuner if you change out the pipes. Then you can put a new air box on as well to let it breath.
@@jonathanzucco7728 yeah… upgrades get spendy! The tuner is just going to help give you the proper air and fuel mixture, so long term you won’t have any issues. Plus it will help the power and probably the sound some as well.
Not initially. It ran fine leaving everything else stock, but I eventually put in a stage 2 jet kit and then opened up the air box. There is a video floating around talking about those upgrades that you may find helpful to go along with this one. Thanks for watching!
The sound is night and day difference. I really love the sound! I don’t feel they are too loud. I like loud. And have heard louder. They are a good sound. At first I didn’t do anything with the carb and it was fine. About a year later, I had a float sticking in the carb, so it was rebuilt to a stage 2 and then the air box was opened up as well. That gave it some more life and pep! If you can afford it all, I would recommend doing it all at the same time, then it’s done. Then you will get the max out of it.
@@TWOWHEELD I have a 01 Shadow Spirit VT1100c and can’t find them for my bike not sure if the same ones you got will fit is been a struggle finding new exhaust for this bike 🤦♂️
@derwinsanchez9243 I’m not sure. I haven’t searched to see if this exhaust is still available for my bike or not. I was thinking about doing Vance and Hines Short Shots, but decided to go this way because I thought it would look better with the bags. I forget where I got mine after being a few years, but I would check Revzilla, Dennis Kirk, eBay, or your local shop.
I can tell it is burning a bit different by the fume smell, but I wouldn’t say the exhaust fumes are any more. When I bought the bike, it had the stock baffles already removed. This could be why there wasn’t much difference to me?
@@albertovalencia2752 I am glad it was useful to help you through the process. Did you change out the copper ring by chance? I know I didn’t in the video, but if you didn’t change it, there potentially could be an exhaust leak at that spot. You may be able to hear it leaking there if that is the case, too. Otherwise, the smell could be a bit different from the air/fuel mixture. You could adjust the carb, or even change out the jets. Some people do, some don’t.
No I didn’t change the copper gaskets. They looked good when I took them off. But now I’m thinking of buying some and just changing them, and also doing a rejet. I have the same bike as you
@@albertovalencia2752 changing the jets would allow you to also change the air box and open up some good airflow and power. At some point, I plan to do the same thing.
Hi Dustin. I’m watching this video for the second time. Good stuff. This weekend I will be installing the Cobra slash down pipes on my 2014 Honda Shadow Spirit. I’m curious as to how long your ratchet extensions are that you used? I’m hoping to enlist the help of my son to get this project done. Any other tips for me? Thanks Gary.
I am glad you have found this video helpful! I believe I had a six inch extension, but don’t hold me to that! I would definitely have some help on a few spots of the install. If you have some nitrile gloves, throw those on as well. It will make wiping everything down before you fire it up much easier! As far as other tips, just take your time and have fun with it. I had to cut out some cussing and swearing. 😂 I would leave the best shields loose until you have the tips installed. I had to go back and loosen the shields to be able to get the tips on. I hope that helps!
@@Gary-ys6ei you’re welcome! I had a bit of a struggle getting the stock exhaust bracket loose from the bracket that you will leave on the bike. I ended up needing to put a little bit of penetrating lubricant on it to bust it loose.
I’m not entirely sure, but I believe it would. It should work for many model years, as I think the entire setup hasn’t changed on these bikes for a long time.
Where you subscribe to the channel, next to the bell, you have a few options when you click. Put it on all, and you will get notifications when I post videos. We try to post every Saturday morning, but depends on life! Sometimes we have some gaps.
I haven’t re-jetted the carb yet. It does run fine without it, but I do get a little bit of decel pop that I think could be corrected by re-jetting. I haven’t pulled the plugs at all to see how they look either. I will most likely end up putting different jets in and potentially change the air cleaner as well, just to get maximum power.

Yeah, I kept baffles in as they come. Sounds really great straight from Cobra. My particular bike doesn’t take a tuner being carbureted. We ended up rejetting the carb, and opening up the air box to get the most of the exhaust. What a difference that made. You will love it once you get your tuner installed. Thanks for your comment!

i just installed my cobra streetrod slash down on my 2019 honda shadow phatom. is the pipe flange suppose to be flush to the motor? mine did not sit well flushed and im sure i positioned it correctly. can you provide a picture pls?
Is it possible to install the heat shields prior to installing the new pipes onto the bike?
I’m not certain. If you did, you would definitely want to leave them loose. You would need them loose to be able to get to the acorn nuts and to put the tips on. It’s been a couple years since I installed these, so I am trying to go off memory. Not sure if it would interfere with anything other than what was mentioned above.
@@TWOWHEELD For sure thank you and great video! 👍
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed! Ride safe!
Ride safe!
Thanks for the video!!! I have a 03 shadow spirit 1100 and I've been debating on the brand of pipes to install. I'm in West River SD.
Hey! Welcome fellow South Dakotan! I too debated! I do not regret my purchase on these one bit! They brought some life to the bike as well!
@@TWOWHEELD this is the video that started our friendship 😁
@@SFJ.Sparky wish I could ❤️ this more than one time!
@@TWOWHEELD Thanks for the response! That one spot is the only chrome that doesn't shine lol
Balisong in the key of G You’re welcome! Maybe check the Kuryakyn site and see if they have something.
What brand are your saddle bags? Did you ever update your carbs?
I am not sure in the brand of the saddle bags. They were in the bike when I bought it and there are no tags or badges on them.
The single carb did get rebuilt into a stage 2 and the air box was opened up as well. I will go see if I can find that video in the folder I sent to you in another comment and come back and drop it here.

I really like this bike.
Thank you! Hope you enjoy watching some of the other videos with it as well. 😊
Did you adjust the idling switch!?
Thanks and Ride safe man🙌🏻
You’re welcome! Good luck with it all and enjoy! Ride safe!
do you need a tuner on it with the cobra exhaust?
I have upgraded the jets in the carburetor and changed the air cleaner to enhance the over all performance since this video. If you have fuel injection, I would look at getting a tuner if you change out the pipes. Then you can put a new air box on as well to let it breath.
@@TWOWHEELD sounds good thank you. just didnt want to spend the extra 300-400 on a tuner after spending 700-800 on the pipes.
@@jonathanzucco7728 yeah… upgrades get spendy! The tuner is just going to help give you the proper air and fuel mixture, so long term you won’t have any issues. Plus it will help the power and probably the sound some as well.
did you jet the carbs? does it run good?
Not initially. It ran fine leaving everything else stock, but I eventually put in a stage 2 jet kit and then opened up the air box. There is a video floating around talking about those upgrades that you may find helpful to go along with this one. Thanks for watching!
Looks great 👍🏻nice job,I have same bike but it is red.
Thank you! I bet that red is beautiful!
How do you like the sound of them? Are they too loud? Also did you have to re jet?
@@TWOWHEELD thanks all I’ve found is the cobra drag pipes or the slip ons for it 🤦♂️ I guess that’s the only thing that fits it lol
@derwinsanchez9243 that sounds odd. Maybe it’s like seats for mine, I can never find a seat that appeals to me!
Hi Dustin, thank you for this video. I will be switching my exhaust soon as well. What torque wrench do you have? I'm looking to buy one.
You’re welcome! I just have a Masterforce one from Menards, but you can find any brand at an auto parts store as well.
When you installed your exhaust system, did you smell the exhaust fumes a lot more than when your oem exhaust was on?
I can tell it is burning a bit different by the fume smell, but I wouldn’t say the exhaust fumes are any more. When I bought the bike, it had the stock baffles already removed. This could be why there wasn’t much difference to me?
I followed your step by step video. By the way, awesome video. And I noticed the fumes smell a lot more.
@@TWOWHEELD thanks Dustin! I appreciate the advice.
@@Gary-ys6ei you’re welcome! I had a bit of a struggle getting the stock exhaust bracket loose from the bracket that you will leave on the bike. I ended up needing to put a little bit of penetrating lubricant on it to bust it loose.
I have a 08’ shadow spirit. Would your exhaust fit my bike?
I’m not entirely sure, but I believe it would. It should work for many model years, as I think the entire setup hasn’t changed on these bikes for a long time.
good installment Good job.. we like!

Did you have any carb issues and require re jetting at all?
I haven’t re-jetted the carb yet. It does run fine without it, but I do get a little bit of decel pop that I think could be corrected by re-jetting. I haven’t pulled the plugs at all to see how they look either. I will most likely end up putting different jets in and potentially change the air cleaner as well, just to get maximum power.
Thanks. Good job.
Thank you and thank you for watching!
Hi. Im 58 years old, and i just but a Honda shadow 750. And i ask you . Do you thing I'm to old to be riding at this age ??. If you tell me yes. Can i ask you for especial fix for my shadow. I like the way you explained, step by step. Thanks brother.

Hi. I been riding my Honda shadow for a month now , and I'm loving it. So I'll be watching your videos. Good day my new friend.
You don't need to take the baffles out of these cobras. They are loud and they sound good. My Honda Shadow 750 sounds better than most Harleys out there with with Vance & Hines or other brands of custom pipes Go Cobra! I just got the new Cobra pro intake Don't forget your fuel controller you're going to need one! I got the FI 2000 r for my shadow areo. Took a trip to Morrison Colorado from Denver uphill ran good! But a little backfiring on down shifts but I didn't have The fuel controller installed yet. I've got it now I'm going to have it professionally installed You don't get it right it won't run worth a shit! Or so they say. Monitors your fuel air mixture and your idol My bikes idling way too fast. Can't wait to get it on also as horsepower
Probably should wear gloves to keep finger prints off the chrome
Definitely! Wearing gloves makes clean up a lot easier to make sure that you get all the oils wiped off so fingerprints don’t burn into the chrome. Thanks for watching.
