- When I was a kid my grandma used to make stinging nettles risotto or gnocchi but you can pick and use them for so many other things, at any time of the year. The seeds are known for the energetic properties and I can’t wait to pick some.
NETTLE LEAVES PESTO 🌱🫙
* One colander full of freshly picked nettles
* 1/2 x cup pine nuts
* 1 x cup of vegan hard cheese grated
* 2-3 x raw cloves of garlic
* 150 ml of olive oil
* 10 ml of lemon juice (optional just to keep the colour bright)
* 1/2 teaspoon of salt
* 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
🥣 PREPARATION
-blanch the nettle leaves for 2 minutes
-place in cold water with ice
-strain and press with your hands to remove as much water as possible
-combine all the ingredients and blend until smooth
-store in an airtight jar in the fridge
NETTLE ROOT TINCTURE🌿💧
* nettle roots
* 100 vodka
🥣 PREPARATION
-soak the roots in water depending on how much dirt they have and wash them properly with a small brush
-let dry for 3-4 hours on a towel or dehydrate with a dehydrator or sunlight
-chop in small pieces of 1cm each
-fill half of a jar with roots and the rest with vodka
-shake every day
-keep in a dark place
-will be ready in about a month
NETTLE STEM STRINGS🧵
-remove roots and leaves
-flat out the remaining stick
-open it in half and remove the woody part
-you’re left out with the fibres
-pull them apart usually they should be 4 but even if they are more or they get broken and are shorter that will work out anyway
-now you can twist all of them together and create a thicker string or leave them as is
-they are good to use fresh or you can hang them on a rail to let dry

You will never know true pain as a kid until you accidentally trip and fall into a patch of these while trying to retrieve a football.
there were leaves where i lived that would cause immense amounts of itching if you touched em, we used to run up on each other and rub it on our friends faces
If you go to the woods and you don't wear pants because it's hot outside and you decide to wear shorts u will know this pain
ask how I found out lol😂
I tripped back first into a Cactus as a Child...
I accidentally hit my gums while I was chewing on a Sugar Cane...
Lastly as a Child I let a cactus needle rest in my hand for 4 Days, like a r*tard.
The anguish when you kick it right into the middle of a huge patch and you know you're about to be in pain
🤣🤣🤣
My grandmother uses this plant to make a kind of cream soup, and no, it doesn't sting your tongue, she told me it's good for blood circulation
And also the omlette...
@@colettina100 also
They grow in my yard and my grandma used to make tea out of it
@@redforman2999 u can make a lot of things with this
This is real pokemon npc vibes 😂
the strings to tie plants to a trellis is GENIUS omg
Thank you, there are other plants that you could use to do the same thing :)
Making string out stinging nettles reminds me of that story of the 6 swans. 6 brothers turned into swans by their step-mother and their sister has to keep silent and sew 6 shirts made of stinging nettles (other stories say star flowers) in order to break the spell.
A childhood classic 😊
Nostalgic
That was one of my favourite stories growing up
Oh, in another version there were 11 brothers.
There's a book called six crimson cranes with this story but a bit different :) Recommend
In Romania we also eat them in spring when they are sprouting. Really good in soup or as a stew.
Da
Tak tochno
@@graipfrut uhhh, close but not Romanian lol
Ive heard that in addition to their medicinal uses they are considerably high in protein
@@onradioactivewavesI'm not sure about protein, but iron and vitamin C. 👍 It's a regular spring tonic! I have taken tinctures of nettle- I could feel the difference about half an hour later, perked me right up! (winter is long and dark where I live)
I love this guy. So much. I don’t even know him and I love him,
Right, I want him inside of me
Love works that way. When you get to know each other and get together. It just fades in almost all cases.
@Anna good thing you learnt it through your mobile device and not by going to jail.

I just got your book and it arrived 2 days ago. I’ve already gotten 2 berry bushes and I’m working on a compost box based on your information. You’ve inspired me to create a more natural lifestyle for myself and I’m very thankful that I found this channel
What book? Do you have a link?
@@TacklingTheGiants he has a short about it on his channel with a link to the site, it shouldn’t be that hard to find

My father used to make nettle soup when I grew up. It tasted like spinach and he got it from our backyard!
Stinging nettle soup was the way I got my children to start enjoying vegetable soup when they were young as they thought it was great revenge on the plants that stung them. They still ask for it! ❤
I’ll have to try that. Been making a lot of asparagus soup once the nettles have gone.
Here in Finland stinging nettles are sometimes used to make nettle crepes!
Make a video and show us how please, post the link here 👍
I was going to comment this :D
Interesting! I've never heard of those, but I remember my mum telling me how her family used to make bread buns with nettle (or add in into the mix). She's not much of a baker though so I never got to try it myself.
Here in Nagaland (NE India)traditionally nettles are used to make threads and woven into shawls, wrap around
I never knew about nettle tincture! I have only really used leaves like spinach in pie.
What's tinkture? Never heard this term before :v
@@frostbitedragon9 a solution made by steeping herbs & stuff in high proof alcohol. It can be used for medicinal properties or flavor
@@Swimmaroo ah ok thanks :D
You can use the water that was cooked in as a hair treatment too!! My mom got my sisters hair back to a healthy state like that
do you know how to use it?
@@gmxhorst put the whole thing (leaves and stems) in water boil it for 20-30 minutes you can also add a few cloves to it too, then leave to cool and spray it on the scalp everyday and massage it in, I think its better to wash it out bc your skin may get a bit irritated but just washing out with water is good you dont really need to shampoo😊 oh and either leave it overnight or for 3-4h before washing hair
Really?! I'm totally trying this. Thank you so much!!❤
I'm so tired of seeing so much hate and controversy online, especially on this site. This channel is such a breath of fresh air, and i just wanna say your garden looks amazing!
Stinging nettle is an incredible plant, and I appreciate these videos that put it in a positive light ❤️ although I understand the concerns surrounding it, because it can definitely cause some damage if you don't know what you're doing
What do you use the tincture for?
Also want to know this
The amount of times I've fallen into these while playing outside as a kid made me completely immune to them 😂
I hike a lot and have a similar thing going.
My exwife went with me and started to freak out on trail and I was confused. Had to carry her out on my back. I didn’t feel a single sting.
I've used the top two leaves off of stinging nettles in my slag bowl & chilli con carne for years as the nutrition of nettles is so high & they're delicious 🥰
Thank you for the new ideas to use these wonderful plants in.

@@mitvishwakarma for real he looks so mafia and dangerous. but in reality such a nice and genuine guy
Wow very profound yes 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
We use it in balkan pastry called Zeljanica. We use it instead of spinach and tastes amazing.
So cool! I knew about the leaves, and the roots (but only in tea..), but never thought of making string! I was thinking about finding an alternative for temporary string used in the garden. This us awesome!
The world around me has so much cement I couldn't even find nettles this year for tea. It's bad enough I don't have a real home i'm just so sad. I'm trying so hard to keep my head up
i hope it gets better for you ❤
Save up what you can and start the life you want! I believe in you 💛
Maybe consider joining a community garden in your area? It may give you some hope💚
Thanks everybody, There are no community gardens around here. I don't have a penny to save. I'm actually in the minus and somebody helps me pay the part I can't. But I did find somebody in the neighborhood who never touches his front yard. He said I could do anything I want there so I've taken over that space even though it's really late in the year I can still get some. Greens out of it. And if for some Horrible reason i'm still here next year the garden will be a good shape to start early. I have some of the best seeds that anybody could ever want. I can start them early if need be. Let's hope it's in my own place though. Again thank you for caring there is nobody left to do that around here.

We use dried nettle for tea and nettle soup here in Norway. Super nice and heatlhy.
Love seeing your videos, keep it up!
And soup 🥣
You can also ferment nettles outside in a barrel with plain water. Stinks like hell but does magic with plants when poured in the dirt as nutrient.
I was on edge the entire time watching him handle any part of these
Bro I wish I could just like “apprentice” under you 😂
Stingin nettle soup is very popular as a seasonal food here in Denmark and probably in much of northern and eastern Europe too
Here in Michigan and other parts of the usa we have stinging nettles that are a different species called slender stinging nettle (Urtica gracilis) instead of what people used to think they were, which is common stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) and they are an important native perennial here so not all stinging nettles are invasive depending on the species and location.
Stinging nettles are also a host species for insects, including several species of butterflies 🦋. A nice plant to keep in the garden
You have given me a whole new perspective on life and foods...thank you very much sir!!
❤💯
I find it funny how he had to specify not to touch the plant with your bare hands
Not so funny, when you think about kids today in the western world, that never go outside to play. And if they do, everything around them is carefully landscaped and there are hardly any plants around.
I love telling people about your channel, just awesome information
You Are Very Clever You Know How To Take Advantage !
Hey mate what do you do with the tincture
YOU ARE AWESOME 🤍💚💚🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌱🍀🍀🍀🤍
A few of my mentors used to make teas with them reading the comments about all the other creative uses was actually quite heart warming
The asmr on this video soothes my soul
Prezioso e bellissimo tutto ciò che fai.

Garlic is the thing that even makes pure soil delicious
You can also fry the leaves or add them to an omelette, soup or risotto. They're really versatile
I love fried nettle. It really good.
1st time stumbled upon your video today and now watching all the videos back to back
I am from Ukraine and we use it a lot aseptically in spring as first vegetables. If you scale it with water it will not sting animore. Salad: green onions, nettles, egg and saur cream as sauce. As spinach roasted with some garlic an potatoes. Oh an roots have some Nicotine if I am not wrong. Also it is used in gardens for making nitrogen fertilizer. 1 kg of plant covered with 10L of water, stiring in process of fermentation that it is better oxidized, after 10-14 days dilude 1:10 and water plants
Love your channel!!
Love his garden!❤❤❤❤
One of the healthiest plants.
Nice, might just do that, we have so many in our butterfly area. What would you use the tincture for? Just vodka with taste to drink or what?
Yeah even the leaves and stems could be used for tinctures :)
You can use the tincture diluted in water as it helps for many things. It could potentially improve hair regrowth, anti inflammatory, improve your vascular system and much more. However, like many other things which are not owned and commercialised by big pharmas, there are not enough studies to prove this claims.
@@SpicyMoustache thanks for the replies :)
So but would you drink it or rub it onto your skin? Not a native speaker either :P
You would drink it. If you want it to be enjoyable i would add a few drops of it to your tea or other beverages. It can be used to help with allergies and inflammation. It can also help with kidney stones. You can use it on your skin for eczema relief.
@@SpicyMoustache look into finding translated text from China and India. They have more recent studies on the positive effects of natural medicine.
Also just to note Big pharma was built upon scientists finding the chemicals in plants that are responsible for healing and then they take that information and find a way to do it in a lab so they can patent it.
Also i love your channel I dint remember how i found it but i love it.
The string is genius. love it
I put these videos on repeat because it's so soothing after a long shift. 😊
I love the part when he explained it all.
growing up, my grandma would always make stinging nettle tea for her, my grandpa and me. it's so good, especially with a little bit of honey!! and these also look like amazing ways to use up stinging nettle!! thank you for sharing 💖
I my country this plant used to save a lot of people back in the 40’s, due to famine. My grandma used make soup of it.
I just bought some organic nettle loose leaf tea the other day because I read good benefits, especially that its a nervine and a diuretic. It helped a lot!
Im seriously considering taking up gardening as a hobby ever since this guy started to appear in my shorts, I love it.

I made tagliatelle with the boiled leaves too. They were really really good!
ur videos are truly an inspiration
Super cool I did not know and have lots of them, thank you !
Amazing!!!❤
As a east european child, I can remember two things about nettle: 1 is nettle borscht (traditional slavic beetroot soup, but with nettle greens - so delicious!), and secondly - hitting nettle bushes with a huge stick as a form of countryside entertainment for kids 😂
If memory serves, you can also make Rennet (spelling?) from nettles to make cheese at home
@Cameron Daiss that's great, I'll look it up!
fun fact! My grandmother's neighbor used to go to the meadows to pick nettles. She lay on them before sleeping and thanks to this she never went to the doctor and lived to be over 110 years old.
Nettle tea also help me with my psoriasis, its almost magical. Nothing else works but Nettle tea, sun and sea water.
love your video editing and home recipes, remedies and preservations! your amazing!✨
Just brought me right back to the 90s haha jaggy nettles
Every single video of yours is a masterpiece, Spicy 🔥
Theres a town in Croatia named after this plant (Kopriva in Croatian). Its called Koprivnica, we bake and make all kinds of food from this plant, its amazing. From tea, soup to even beer. Also you can use it to spray other plants against bugs by leaving it in water for a few days, but it stinks a lot. When I was little my dad used to say if i get stinged by kopriva and it hurts it means you are very healthy and will stay that way. The plant is really useful and amazing!
Stinging nettle tea for tummies!
Nettle soup and nettle tea was all around when my mom and grandma grew up. We've never really made it with my generation, but it's something that's stuck around since them
You can also make a tea out of it wich is really healthy
So resourceful 😊
and dont forget you can make great tea with that 😁 my great grandma was making me that when i was younger
We used these every Spring when I worked in Paris at a restaurant! Brings me back
When I was a child, my father and I often went to the forest and he taught me to rub the young leaves of a stinging nettle between my hands and eat them. Very delicious
I have walked through these so many times that they are just a fun little suprise now.

Thank you
I'm surprised nobody mentioned a syrup made out of this. It tastes amazing and it's healthy.

I would be more impressed if I saw him actually use the strings. In the Netherlands we make stinging nettle soup traditionally, its quite good.
