Aiba Kotoko, third year student of the affiliated high school of Tonan University, was always in the lowest F class. However, she has been in love alone with Irie Naoki, who is a handsome student in the A class with an IQ of 200. After she decides to ask him out, she sends him a love letter but is rejected by him immediately. She is very hurt by this incident, but what is even worse is that a meteorite hits the house that she and her father newly moved into. After losing their new home, Kotoko and her father decide to stay a while at his friend’s place..which turns out to be the house of Irie Naoki! A love story of Naoki, a cold and irritable person with an IQ of 200, and Kotoko, an always bright and cheerful person. What will happen next?

I agree she is amazing, but I hate the fact how she always pushed them together and never gave them any privacy, like for example, the wedding, Irie said he wanted to wait and his mom didn't respect that decision, I felt as if she rushed everything.

After many times rewatched this drama, I feel so bad for kin chan. his sincererity, hiding his jealousy everytime kotoko told him about irie, etc, make him doesn't deserve that story line 😭😭

Watching this again after years ago, i finally realize Naoki missed Kotoko that’s why he came to practice even though he didn’t have to.
I realized the first time I watched it and it honestly is my favorite thing about this episode because I started to lose faith in him.

When Kotoko told him during a walk that she and her Dad had found a place. I remember Naoki stopping his steps and giving that side eye Naoki panic look and listening to her intently while she talked about it. When she asks him if he will miss them, of course, he won't admit it to her that he will miss her, so instead, he makes a comment about how nice it will be to live in a house with peace and quiet.

Rewatching this episode made me realize this:
Naoki wanted to have a rematch with sudo bcs he hasn't lost before and so he's determined to win by training kotoko.
But when she got injured after returning sudo's serve, he immediately called off the match, not caring about losing. He cared more about kotoko than his pride and dignity-

But aren't we gonna talk about how Kin chan looks at kotoko admiring how cute she looks while eating 31:56 . Kin chan is always so caring towards kotoko and how he always brings her food. And says that he won't give up. I knew from the very start that third wheel here was too gonna have some harsh time. T.T

There are many instances that Naoki have no excuse in his poor treatment of Kotoko. But there are also many other instances that Naoki is simply “tsundere.” It means a personality of being really cold and even rude outside, but really warm and gentle internally. These type of people often slice people with their words but has a heart that is as gentle as a piece of soft tofu. And they are easily embarrassed and sometimes don’t understand their feelings well, so they try their best to conceal their feelings and get frustrated and angry when people ridicule and expose them. They always want to make sure they are in charge in a relationship, even though they are actually desperately and helplessly in love with the other person. Naoki is such a person.
His affection for Kotoko is not a bit less than Kotoko’s love for him. A lot of people don’t recognize that throughout the show, Kotoko has decided to give up Naoki for quite a few times. But Naoki shows up every single time when she does that to make sure she loves him again. Kotoko would have given Naoki up as a high school crush long ago if not for Naoki keep encouraging her and leading her on. While Kotoko’s love is more passionate and outgoing, it’s always Naoki who can’t let go and move on.

He's a bit of a narcissistic. He loves to feel loved, and once he feels that he is losing his self esteem booster he runs back to her. Overall Naoki, needed Kotoko more, than she needed him. He loved her confidence, and the confidence she gave him.
@@queeniu8843 Nah he is just someone who isn real life would probably just be diagnosed with Autism, has 0 EQ and you're forgetting that by episode 2 he was already interested in her and confessed 2 times but she didn't get it. He always had everything, nothing that challenged him, was praised, automatically did everything right and lived the same dull life until Kotoko came. She's hid obsessive stalker, forcing her love on him and suddenly he's facing new challanges, put in situations he has never been in, experiencing emotions and feelings for the first time which overwhelm him. He doesn't know where to put them, neither how to handle them or what they are, he needed to figure that out first, even the Sky had to cry for him because he didn't know how to. Why did I say Autism (I work with them) because in a lot of cases if the fall in love, it's extreme. They're faced with stuff they don't understand, that has no logic. You need to understand Naoki's POV it was never abour losing his self-esteem. He liked it when Kotoko put him in embaressing situations.

the deceased authors husband produced this drama as a love message to show her that he's been in love with her ever since she started chasing him. He wanted to see his name alongside hers once again, added his own (Naoki's) perspective to it and helped in writing him more flawed and weaker since he was never the perfect guy his wife thought he was and Kotoko is more like how he viewed wife in this version. Bright, cheerful, smarter, beautiful because she's the best in his eyes. He never remarried or dated again 💔

The version produced by Shigeru Nishikawa in 2013 is more from the perspective of Naoki , and the hero Naoki is no longer so cold. Shigeru Nishikawa said: "This is the relationship line of the male protagonist that Kaoru Tada doesn't know about. I, I have liked her since a long time ago."

It's clear that Naoki love Kotoko in his own way. Well, man like him who struggle with emotion does suit perfectly with Kotoko who are expressive and cheerful. Many see kin Chan is sweet, since his caring and expression is so obvious, but it doesn't mean Kin Chan is better. I prefer someone like Naoki more, who agree to teach me and train me to be the better me. His expression is more subtle, but that's make it so precious.

He pretty much admitted he would've done smth but doesn't want it to go his mom way and then admitted he likes her but she fell asleep. "You're always like that in important moments".

This girl trying so hard to push Kotoko down. She knows Irie didn't need to show up, she knows he would have put this much time and effort into no one else and it kills her. Irie needs Kotoko more then Kotoko needs him, otherwise, why always put a road block every time she decides to move on. He knows she has the tenacity to do what she sets her mind to and he is terrified she will put that focus into not loving him anymore.

Exactly. Actually in this version of itazura na kiss, it's quite easy to read him despite his cold behaviour. And I like the way he stayed loyal for her, not let another girl to kiss him except Kotoko. That's mean that kiss also give deep meaning for him. In another version Naoki just a pushover to the other girl and let her kiss him. I like this version more.
And here, HE is the one who insisted to train her and spend times together, despite of the weather.

People keep pushing that this was a Japanese adaptation of Taiwanese or Korean drama, little did they know that this drama and all of its versions are adaptation of 1990's manga entitled ITAZURA NA KISS. The original live action adaptation was released in year 1996 with the same name as manga after that a Taiwanese version was created with the title It Started with a Kiss (2005) and released another season with They Kiss Again (2007), later on Japan released an anime version of the manga (2008). Korea made it's own version of the drama entitled Playful Kiss (2010), three years later Japan once again made it's second live action adaptation series with Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo (2013-2014) with two seasons, a little trivia both main leads of original live action adaptation has a cameo playing as nurse and doctor in this version. Thai version of this drama was also aired it is entitled Kiss Me (2015), year later another Taiwanese version was made with Miss in Kiss (2016) and on the same year Japan for the third time released a three part movie series Mischievous Kiss: High School Chapter (2016), College Chapter (2017), and Proposal Chapter (2017). The last adaptation of this manga so far was the Chinese movie version called Fall in love at first kiss (2019).
I have watched all versions of this manga and I have to say that each one have their own charms even though they have the same plot. I have my favorites though 😅. The first Taiwanese adaptation and Japan's MK: Love in Tokyo are my favorites. Arjoe's chemistry and natural acting really caught me on their version. Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo on the other hand caught me on their anime take, it feels like you are really watching the manga itself, I really love also the part that the author's husband takes part on producing this version and revealed that this is his love letter for his late wife, you can notice how flawed and not so perfect Irie Naoki was on this version as the husband said that he is not the perfect person his wife have always been seeing, he's a person who's flawed and unabled to recognize his feelings that well. What made me love this version was the undying chemistry of Yuki Furukawa and Honoka Yahagi despite the huge age gap, you really can't feel they were 10 year apart and everytime you watch their version same feels was felt like the first time you've ever watch it (well for me I guess? HAHAHA) yes I do watch this version every year. 💜

After Kotoko gets injured in the tennis match. She says to him that she is sorry that they lost the match. He replies that he never thought that they would win. This implies to me that all of that training he put her through was mostly so he could see her and make sure she wasn't forgetting him now that she was no longer living in his house. He was just happy to be with her and have her all to himself.

I really love this show, but there are a few things I kinda feel odd about…
1. Every time Kotoko is blamed for Naokis decisions. It is so weird to be that everyone is looking up to him, but the moment he makes a decision towards kotoko, everyone is really rude to her..
2. I don’t like that every time kotoko decides for herself that she wants to get over him, there are people who convince her to keep following him and do weird things. There is not really a growth.
It kinda seems to me that both main characters are not allowed to make their own decisions…

Yeah, given it's based on a manga made long time ago to fulfil girl's dream to marry cool guy, I think nowadays people have become more realistic with relationship and marriage. Back then I used to think that it might be great to have a husband with cool, perfect, I-don't-care attitude. Now that I'm adult, it'd a hella frustrating even with ordinary person as husband, let alone someone like Naoki.

after watching all the version of the series, this is the first time i wanted the second lead to end up with the female lead.
You need to understand Naoiki's pov and subtle love
Her playing tennis is how I play soccer,volleyball,basketball. a teammate of mine usually helps me by going in front of me or like covering me. He gets caught sometimes since we only play volleyball often and we rotate in a square! And other teammates get mad at me he does sometimes 🤷♀️
I always feel so bad for Kotoko in this episode. We're reminded that Kotoko didn't just fall in love with Naoki, but also his family. Her dad was always busy working so coming home to a full house, with people that love you so much must've really felt so nice for her. I understand why her dad did what he did.. but it was kind've cruel. Going from coming home to a nice happy full home with a warm atmosphere to a lonely cold dark and empty house.. is such a drastic change.
