  • My recently acquired 1996 Kinetic TFR vintage moped. It was not running when I had acquired it. I have replaced the following components (so far) to get it running again: New external fuel tank on the rear rack (temporary), new fuel line, new fuel petcock, new in-line fuel filter, new carburetor (the original carburetor's float bowl needle is seized and broken off inside of it, rendering the carburetor useless), cleaned the air filter box and new pedals. I've also drained and refilled the gear oil in the rear hub transmission with Amsoil synthetic gear oil. I am also using Amsoil synthetic 2-stroke oil mixed with REC 90, non-ethanol, pure gasoline inside the fuel tank. This bike fired right up afterward! This is just the first of many future phases to get this bike back to original condition. I had to get it running first before going to the next phase. The next phases will be replacing the centrifugal clutch, spark plug and wire, rear tire tube, head light lens, turn signals, LED lamps, mirrors, seat reupholstered, attempt to clean out the step-thru frame fuel tank, and whatever else I find later on. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please post them below in the comments section. Thank you and best regards!

I had gotten a 2000 kinetic moped, and still have it. I had to clean out the fuel tank, and for that for 3 days I would put CLR in it and replace the CLR every day for the 3 days. It cleaned up the fuel tank pretty good. And then I put an ammo box on the back for a trunk for it.

I have a 2001 -> mods I did to get a bit more speed (25 is dangerously slow in single lanes)-> expansion chamber I made with "Belly" bleed (stinger in the middle is quieter) and two stage mufflers, that added 5 mph, then a 13;13 carb (added a little in the 20 to 30 mph range) and ported the engine case (added a little in that same top range, not a job I recommend, not worth the effort for probably a third horse power). These mopeds are a clone of the mid '80s Piaggio Ciao (Vespa) and are quite nice, good electrics and a huge front brake. Mike

Have you ever torn the engine apart? How do you takeoff the fly wheel?
