When you seperated out that opening part of Portals, it wasn't Superman I heard, or Linkin Park, but I actually heard Jurassic Park. Which kind of works because it's the idea of rebirth and restarting, which matches with what Marvel is planning to do with the MCU in the future

I agree, all these asymmetrical time signatures and the songs alternating between two are the best. They are definitely the most fun to play. There is a snow-white suite (NOT from Disney's music) with a theme for the dwarves in 7/8. It is absolutely gorgeous

I've heard stories of how Adolphe Sax (inventor of the saxophone) was banished from towns by other instrument makers because his new instrument kept seducing all the local women.
Not so sure about the seducing bit, but yeah other musicians, especially French instrument makers, really had a huge rage boner for Adolphe's new toy. So much so that the sax was basically banished from orchestras and woodwind/horn ensembles up to when people noticed 'huh we never really use this thing, so why not?'. You can find some more modern classical music using saxophones and I find that it sounds rather decent.
Look up David Bruce Composer’s video on Saxophones where he discusses why orchestras be judgmental about the instrument (mostly because Saxophones are OP and make half the other brass instruments obsolete and the makers of the other instruments got jealous)
I couldn't name or remember hardly anything about her until I watched the Agent Carter TV show. Which was excellent. But still, the films didn't do much to make her stand out beyond a handful of scenes in the first Cap movie.

I played classic violin for 12 years and ultimately the main thing I took away was that all music sounds like something else. There are only so many ways that you can arrange notes so you end up with parts of songs sounding very similar to each other. Must be very frustrating to some composer trying to make original pieces only to wind up with, "Man, this sounds like Harry Potter" or "This reminds me of Skyrim".
My favorite music call back was, after black widows death the avengers are sitting around by the lake, and you can hear the same from after agents coulsens death..

As a big time weeb, there's an incredibly complex tree of influences that snake, twist, and morph everything that is currently being produced as a product of its past. The more and more watch (and re-watch) time I put into anime or even specific genres of anime, I feel like I can produce some hyper-metagame, galaxy brain, 4D chess web of what influenced, allowed the production of, and/or mirrors other works. Most other people, even weebs, think I'm crazy. I am crazy, but just for other reasons not relating to around 6 months of total consecutive view time I've bothered to document.
Seeing Ant-man's theme as The Incredibles' theme because The Incredible's theme was built to sound like a super spy theme which YOU said was something that Ant-man's theme is trying to emulate makes perfect sense to me. Antman = burglar movie = heist movie = spy thriller = the incredibles = Antman. It's a vicious cycle that goes perfectly round.

Lyrics are very subjective. Music a bit less so. I've thought about how you have the "key" a song is written in, which is your baseline, and anything from that is going to pull on your heart, your emotions. It can still affect differently though.

It’s interesting to think that thanos theme is in the deep strings (double bass and cellos) but the response is in the heroic brass. Like I definitely heard it as a response (only after my third viewing. First two times I was still floored with that scene)
To be fair The Incredibles spends most of the movie pretending to be a secret agent film with the characters sneaking around the villains hideout finding passwords and uncovering and then preventing evil plots. you know, like a james bod film. Especially when you consider Mr. Incredible hides what he's doing from his family, basically seduces a pretty blonde woman who is linked to the villain and gets the code from a now dead "agent".

There certainly a lot of references to 60s spy stories like Bond and Mission Impossible, from the cars and gadgets to the secret villain lair in a volcano. Plus they went with a Mid Century Modernism design for the characters' houses.
My undergrad college roommate is my best friend. We lived together for four years and ended up pursuing different grad schools in 2016. She went back to England and I stayed in the US. I miss her dearly all the time. We still talk and she’s the godmother of my daughter but we haven’t seen each other in person since 2018. that’s because characters like iron man didn’t really have a musical theme to occupancy them, iron man didn’t have one in his first 2 movies and got one in iron man 3 but no other director of the other films iron man was in picked them up and used them. we only have “one way trip” from avengers to play when he took the stones from thanos. cap did have a them but other directors didn’t really expound on that either, the same music that plays at the end of the first cap movies comes back when cap gives sam the shield but that’s it.

The whole concept of High-tech Villain Island with a lair built quite literally inside a volcano sounds very, very Bond to me, so, yeah
Yeah it’s a crime noir film with superheroes in it.
Plus the family does illegal stuff (being superheroes) to save the world, so quite closer thematically than a James Bond or Mission Impossible

Musical and to a limited extent visual symbolism can reach the subconscious, but in text you need to engage the conscious mind, which means the conscious mind can't be immersed.

Not so sure about the seducing bit, but yeah other musicians, especially French instrument makers, really had a huge rage boner for Adolphe's new toy.
So much so that the sax was basically banished from orchestras and woodwind/horn ensembles up to when people noticed 'huh we never really use this thing, so why not?'. You can find some more modern classical music using saxophones and I find that it sounds rather decent.
Look up David Bruce Composer’s video on Saxophones where he discusses why orchestras be judgmental about the instrument (mostly because Saxophones are OP and make half the other brass instruments obsolete and the makers of the other instruments got jealous)

I played classic violin for 12 years and ultimately the main thing I took away was that all music sounds like something else. There are only so many ways that you can arrange notes so you end up with parts of songs sounding very similar to each other. Must be very frustrating to some composer trying to make original pieces only to wind up with, "Man, this sounds like Harry Potter" or "This reminds me of Skyrim".
My favorite music call back was, after black widows death the avengers are sitting around by the lake, and you can hear the same from after agents coulsens death..

If it makes you feel any better, it's not just music. As a big time weeb, there's an incredibly complex tree of influences that snake, twist, and morph everything that is currently being produced as a product of its past. The more and more watch (and re-watch) time I put into anime or even specific genres of anime, I feel like I can produce some hyper-metagame, galaxy brain, 4D chess web of what influenced, allowed the production of, and/or mirrors other works.
Most other people, even weebs, think I'm crazy. I am crazy, but just for other reasons not relating to around 6 months of total consecutive view time I've bothered to document.

Lyrics are very subjective. Music a bit less so. I've thought about how you have the "key" a song is written in, which is your baseline, and anything from that is going to pull on your heart, your emotions. It can still affect differently though.

It’s interesting to think that thanos theme is in the deep strings (double bass and cellos) but the response is in the heroic brass. Like I definitely heard it as a response (only after my third viewing. First two times I was still floored with that scene)
To be fair The Incredibles spends most of the movie pretending to be a secret agent film with the characters sneaking around the villains hideout finding passwords and uncovering and then preventing evil plots. you know, like a james bod film. Especially when you consider Mr. Incredible hides what he's doing from his family, basically seduces a pretty blonde woman who is linked to the villain and gets the code from a now dead "agent".

I actually feel like “The Incredibles” is more a spy movie than a superhero movie. But above all, definitely a family movie
There certainly a lot of references to 60s spy stories like Bond and Mission Impossible, from the cars and gadgets to the secret villain lair in a volcano. Plus they went with a Mid Century Modernism design for the characters' houses.
My undergrad college roommate is my best friend. We lived together for four years and ended up pursuing different grad schools in 2016. She went back to England and I stayed in the US. I miss her dearly all the time. We still talk and she’s the godmother of my daughter but we haven’t seen each other in person since 2018. BeN sQuArEd which itself I think is a reference to a scene where astronauts walk in in the same way, in I think “The Right Stuff”. Haven’t seen either movie in a very long time so I might be getting the wrong astronaut movie here.

Hey loving the video, did anyone else notice that at the beginning of the MCU we said that it had no leitmotiv for most of its characters and now we mentioned some of the returning themes of Ironman, Antman and Captain Marvel?
I'm not suggesting anything but a "Evolution of MCU music?" video???
that’s because characters like iron man didn’t really have a musical theme to occupancy them, iron man didn’t have one in his first 2 movies and got one in iron man 3 but no other director of the other films iron man was in picked them up and used them. we only have “one way trip” from avengers to play when he took the stones from thanos. cap did have a them but other directors didn’t really expound on that either, the same music that plays at the end of the first cap movies comes back when cap gives sam the shield but that’s it.
