Terry Gilliam is an Arthurian Legend expert. Holy Grail, despite its ludicrous silly tone, to this day, is arguably the most accurate film depiction of the legends as they were written.
I’m not a fan of Gillian by any stretch but I loved Time Bandits as a kid. As a teen and adult I thought it was bizarre and I didn’t get it. As an old guy I appreciate it again. 🤷🏻♂️
Also, most everything that is put into the movie is just a direct illustration, or abstraction of an idea.

Cube was a movie I watched out of boredom years ago and was surprised how GOOD it was. The sequels.. eehhhh not so much. But that first movie, I've rewatched so many times

I’m confused on how Cube was a “dumb” movie. It’s fairly high concept on its face, and that carries through to the actual execution of the concept.

Lately I feel like a lot of these WhatCulture lists are only being made to try to cause outrage.
1st: That's what drives traffic up.
2nd: These videos wouldn't cause so much outrage if people these days weren't so big-headed to think that they (and *only* they) know how to differentiate a good production from a bad one.
3rd: Maybe people should stop over-analysing productions to find every possible flaw and thereby forget how to have a ton of fun even with flawed productions. There's something to be said about "haters gonna hate, no matter what". They're not only ruining the experience for themselves but for a lot of people who probably wouldn't have cared for flaws, hadn't they been pointed out to them.
Anyone who thought that _Holy Grail_ wasn't smart is seriously stupid.
MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL is still the best film based on Arthurian legend in the English language, and may even be better than LANCELOT DU LAC or PERCEVAL LA GALLOISE - just as LIFE OF BRIAN might be the best biblical movie (challengers outside the English language again: GOLGOTHA, THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW)
One thing not so clever about UNSTOPPABLE is that no character remarks that the situation reminds them of that movie RUNAWAY TRAIN
6:41 the ending to Saw 6 made the torture porn movie go from dumb and stupid to dumb, stupid, and pointless. If the main character learns his lesson but gets killed anyway, what’s the point of the film?
I liked Halloween Ends, it was definitely an homage to Halloween 3
The fact that you added that Spiral had a lot of nuance kind of made me question everything else you said in the video. It was laughably predictable and there was no nuance at all. Just because he was targeting corrupt police officers with his traps doesn’t mean the many many flaws of the movie can be overlooked. I was genuinely excited the first time I saw the trailer for it. But 20 minutes in I could tell it was never gonna live up to those expectations.
Team America is fucking hilarious; to say otherwise is fighting words!

One: Holy Grail isn't a dumb movie Two: Idiocracy, arguably, is a dumb movie. I watched it when it came out and thought it was one of the dumbest movies Ive ever seen, and year after year, I am constantly reminded of it, to the point that it seems more like a documentary. Idiocracy should have been number one, in my opinion. Other than that, good list. Ill have to check out Hoodwinked.

Stan Helsing. A horror comedy. The movie is unapologetically dumb, crude and grabs the low hanging fruit like it's starving and yet it is chock full of homages, references, satire, irony and parody. It was so stupid but had me howling from the first 5 minutes.
Never heard of anyone describe The Hangover as intelligent. It’s void of humor and plot.
My wife and I still quote Hoodwinked almost daily. "I was prepaaaared"!
I loved Shrek: Forever After. It probably had the deepest message out of all the films. I really don't get the hate behind it.

Unstoppable was (extremely loosely) based on a real-life runaway train incident: the "crazy eights" incident, CSX lines engine number 8888, was set on its merry way without a driver from a rail yard near Toledo, Ohio and crossed half the state before being brought to a safe stop by some quick-thinking employees of the rail company

That stupid movie was sweet. The relationship with his daughter, his FAMILY, so nice to see. And it was funny, dumb humor. Fun for family. Now if it was rated R it would have been a classic amongst guilty pleasures😂

I should have known that the number one spot would go to a British gem. I don't disagree, I just should have known. The 20th or 25th Anniversary DVD with commentary track is hilarious. Most of John Cleese's commentary track is just him laughing his butt off because he hasn't seen it in about a decade.
Dark Hamlet and the rest of Mel Brooks movies would like to have word cause those movies are a most see at any age.
Everyone loves Naked Gun, but Not Another Teen Movie also does a good parody without getting nearly as much credit.

7:00 There's something about Gem saying, "Unstoppable" that I find adorable. Perhaps it is her accent I find endearing, so when I hear, "Unstopaboo", it just tickles me so, in a very wholesome way! ❤

Free Guy had a meta-brilliance... "what the shit?!" case in point. loved seeing Cube here. hated seeing the prequel trilogy referred to as secretly smart... let's just stick with flawed- terrible dialogue, and Jarjar Binx for god's sake... and anything Python is already three tiers deeper than anything else...
You have to put Tropic Thunder on this list. Love how that movie calls out Hollywood culture, such as politically incorrect casting as awards bait. That Robert Downey Jr. was Oscar-nominated for parodying a White actor playing a Black man was beyond parody....it was hilariously ironic!

The Naked Gun are even better since they are actually an adaptation of a canceled TV show that was great but didn't get ratings. Also, Unstoppable was great because it was based on a real event. The only real difference is the fatal and crazy botched derail scene. Otherwise that crazy runaway train stuff really happened.
Thank you very much for this!!! It's so, so refreshing to see a video praising productions for their strengths instead of them being over-analysed to death by wannabe movie-experts whose only purpose in life seems to be to find every little flaw in every production and feeling oh-so proud about it.

Unstoppable: Was crappy because it changed the story for no good reason. There was no reason to put a stupid bridge up in the air with a curve over the city. Our trains are bad enough by them selves. A train with petro-chems can destroy a 50 mile radius by themselves with the toxic fumes and the wait it poisons the water table. If they would have used that as the "OH MY GOD, DANGER" then everyone could rightly look at the train tracks in their own town and realized that they are also in danger with the lax federal standards.
With the movie (as is) people just think, well i'm ok because my town doesn't have a stupid curved air bridge.
as a halloween movie, halloween ends is utter shit. that being said, the story of a character vilified by an entire town over an accident and is beaten down til he finally becomes the monster they think he is would be a pretty good plot had it been it's own thing and not had anything to do with halloween.
Monty Python's Holy Grail film's final joke explains it all. They get arrested by modern police. Meaning they're a bunch of nutcases LARPing.

I don't think the problem with the prequel trilogy is that the movies seem dumb. I think the main problem was the botched characterization of Anakin. If young adult Anakin had been given a better personality than young emo brat, and his turn involved something a little less stupid, the prequel movies would've turned out better. It was Anakin's petty immaturity and the unbelievable way that he went from wannabe-hero to child murderer that didn't really work.

The Hangover is so overrated...there was only one good part and that was when Tyson smacked that fella in the face - it was a well deserved KO...I fail to see why so many people think it is actually funny

Team America is a one joke movie that isn’t that funny? To say that is the laziest and (I can only hope) deliberately stupid piece of commentary I have heard from the channel is quite the accolade. It is correctly on this list as the satire is superb and often missed by those who want to be offended but it is hilarious in many ways. Love your work in general but this was just bollocks of the highest order.

Monty Python And The Holy Grail and also Money Python's Life Of Brian are both excellent satires.
Cube is the Cave Allegory with each character representing moral philosophies and arguments. Cube was never thought of as a stupid horror film. It was never thought of as a horror film. It's always been treated as a philosophical allegory of ethical debates while traversing Plato's cave until one character escapes into the light.
Cube's only downside is how heavy-handed this point is.
The writers of this video and this channel are just pure shit.

In 20 years Halloween Ends is going to be recognized as an underrated classic.
Escape room: shady org with a flying shitton of infrastracture and plot-dependent quests.
SAW 6: gore with some "logic", that contradicts Kramer's intended approach, used to move between traps.
Free Guy: movie that's supposedly based in IT that ignores 99% of how IT actually works (as funny as RR may be in it).
Prequels: "she's too sad to live", nuff said.
Monty Python and Cube are pretty much the only actually smart ones.

Team America isn't a smart movie, it's the type of movie dumb people think is smart.
Or people have lost the ability to recognise a smart movie when they see it. Plus, the outrage Team America caused when it was released proved to me that they did a lot of things right. And I had a hell of a good time with that movie, from start to finish.
This is just a stupid opinion of the EXACT type of person who should NOT be allowed to review films. Team American is brilliant satire. Obviously so good some people don't get it.

It's easy to appreciate the Star Wars prequel trilogy in retrospect, especially since the sequel trilogy was absolute garbage.

I see this movie as another corporate dumpster fire attempt at trying to tell us how online videogames, gamers, and social media work. And none of it lines up. If anything, I think the film's script would indicate the opposite, and show out of touch Hollywood really is. The actors? Fine I suppose, but good lord, is the writing terrible.
Finally, somebody admitting out loud that Hoodwinked! is a really good movie!
