I feel like we need to evaluate these products based on our own preferences here, though. To be clear, Midori is absolutely fountain pen friendly. It isn't just 'above average' paper. Lots of us fountain pen users like feedback or 'toothy' paper (scratchy tends to mean something is wrong with your nib), like Midori or Stalogy. You use a broad nib and prefer Tomoe River, that is on the far end of the spectrum for smoothness.
I love love love a5 Leuchtturm grid, softcover black. Loved it. Filled quite a few. And then I had to carry a smaller purse because I have neck issues and my a5 didn’t fit anymore. I would still love to see how you feel about a square journal, since you say you love more square journals! 🤣 I’m still making my way through my huge 800 page journal… Almost halfway there!! Also, I was rewatching some of your videos the other day and something drew me back to your video about your favourite journal and your magical love story. I recently broke up with a man who kept me in a toxic relationship for years and him and I met in person on June 23, 2018 (since we were long distance). We met July 15, 2017. I realized some of the dates strangely coincided with some of yours in a way. But around when you initially posted your collection video and mentioned that journal, I said to myself that I wish that I could be in a relationship with a man who feels so right like you do with Luke. I used the Midori A5 notebooks for an entire year filling one every quarter. I COULD NOT WAIT TO FINISH THE YEAR!!! Yes, I'm one who will choose a notebook and purchase additional ones until I complete an entire year so each year is in the same book (just a different volume). The fountain pen experience was the same as yours and quite frustrating for me. It didn't help that when I was using the Midori books, I’d just started my fountain pen obsession. One of the notebooks paper seemed "wax like" causing an even worse experience for me when using fountain pens. I probably will never use the Midori notebook again unless I switch to a different type of pen. The price, lay flat ability, and overall look of the notebook is a draw though. I've been purchasing the Wonderland222, Nanmi, and other tomoe river paper notebooks which I prefer for my fountain pens. Thanks for sharing!
Oh my gosh, I SO ADMIRE YOUR COMMITMENT! I wish I could do that - LOVE the idea of the same notebooks sitting on a shelf together to document the entire year, but I'm pretty sure that I couldn't make it through a year in any single notebook brand haha are you using Wonderland222 now?

I've been using the half year 192 pg books so I can keep my Hobonichi Avec planner also cut down to standard size TN in the same cover. @@OverallAdventures Awww. Thanks so much! It’s just easier for me to remember the year of “Starbucks” and what occurred that year. I did have a word for my “Starbucks” year which was “share.” It reminded me to purposefully share a cup of coffee whether in person or through sending gift cards with those that I cared/loved or to share a cup of coffee with others during moments of struggle and sorrow as well as the moments of joy and laughter. I have not used a “word of the year” for this year as I struggled to figure out an appropriate word that I could purposefully use for this year. I love the color of your new notebook! I wanted to tell you that my sibling is a big fan of inks and they overheard you say that the inks that you mixed are clunky, they say that is because you shouldn't mix certain inks when they have different PHs because they react with one another and the ink can come out crumbly or even become transparent! There are some inks that are mixeable, though, like Platinum and Sailor. I also wanted to tell you that I just got a Kaweco Sport for my birthday with a double broad nib (BB) and I'm LOVING it! I have the Lamy Safari too like the one you have but in the color mango, and I love it, I'm like you in the fact that I dont like when they're heavy. The kaweco sport is súper light, I thought you may like it because of that. Its body is a bit short but I have small hands so it doesn't bother me, and you can place the cap in the back to make it longer
Woah - I had NO idea about mixing ink...that definitely explains a lot. Oops! I'm SO glad to hear that you're loving the Kaweko - I really need to look into the double broad nib (the one I had in Boston was just a broad and it felt soooo fine compared to my Lamy). Did you get the plastic sport or another material? I love how small and lightweight the plastic version is!
@@OverallAdventures I have the plastic one! It's so lightweight, I'm enjoying it a lot. And the nib BB in the kaweco is pretty similar to a Lamy B in my opinion, a bit juicier and broader even!
Love that you're thinking of combining tarot and writing. There's a book 'Tarot for writers' by Corrinne Kenner, I haven't read it but know people who have and swear by it. Apparently John Steinbeck and Stephen King also use tarot in their writing practice, so you'll be in good company.
Also I’ve never heard of the Tarot-Journal prompt idea…you should definitely make a more in-depth video on that if you end up liking that (or show how you get prompts through tarot). To me, that would be fascinating and magical 💚
Hi! I'd definitely try to use it landscape, I couldn't handle such a narrow notebook. On the archival ink topic, DeAtramentis document ink has a big selection of colour. Though, if you'd like to keep the shading archival inks are not going to be much your thing, at least in my experience Rohrer and Klinger also has archival inks in fun colours and those aren't big shaders either.
Hello Tina! Thank you again for this sweet video. I would love to know more about what you intend to do with the tarot cards. I’m not an expert at all in tarot and I don’t use tarot cards to be honest, but I am really intrigued! 👀✨
Hey Tina! I just wanted to let you know I ended up buying A Walk Between Heaven and Earth cuz you recommended it in your journaling fails video. I'm so excited to start reading it, thank you so much for the recommendation!!
I know you like a chunkier, square-er page. Because of its narrower pages, would you ever try using the whole spread as one writing area? I thought working with the spine would be more bothersome to work around. It's fine. It feels almost rebellious! And, it's quite a different sensation to re-read a whole spread. Lovely video, as always. See you in about 2 weeks!
Gosh, how have I never considered this before?!?! I will try this when I get to one of the narrow notebooks in my stash. Thanks for the idea, Catherine!
I ink up multiple pens with different ink because I love to see the colorful writing. I don't like to feel the texture either when I am writing. I like the A5 size, but I haven't tried the leuchttrum so will go for them next. Thanks for the info.
That makes sense! I get why people buy multiples of their favorite pen so they can easily change inks - I definitely hesitate to change mine because it's a bit of a project to clean and dry my Lamy for the next ink color. Thanks for the idea!
@@OverallAdventures hmmm idk what happened to my previous comment. But just in case you didn’t know, Goulet sells pen flush that I use with every ink change. It works like a charm!
i love your videos!! i dont know why i just cant seem to get into the leuchturm paper. i cant stand the shadow of the pen. i do love the midori way way more! i always go back to the grid midoti 6b slim. jijiji
I took 7 months to finish one A6 midori blank notebook 😂 I'm a firm MD paper user! Unfortunately for me Leuchtturm 1917 books don't provide adequate writing results with both fountain and rollerball pens.
I would love to hear you talk more about tarot and journaling, or even more about your relationship with tarot itself! :) it’s so interesting to me. I myself bought my first tarot deck a couple of years ago, and I think we are similar in that I dabble with it here and there but am no means super well-versed in it. Tarot is such a fascinating topic though and I love how it can serve as another means for introspection!
If you start using archival ink, don't forget to clean your pen regularly. Archival inks tend to clog pens way more than regular inks. And archival doesn't mean waterproof. Just fadeproof. I'm a bit surprised by the different a6 notebooks. I thought that that format was standardised. I've seen variations too, but not to that extent. Is it possible, that the midori is not a6, but b6 or something similar? Tarot. Right. I own a deck, but where did I put it? Using it for prompts sounds interesting, but I don't use prompts. I like them, but I usually have something I need or want to write about, when I journal.
Hi Julia! Thanks for the tip about archival ink - I will definitely keep that in mind! In terms of the sizing, I've seen slight measurement differences across many stationery brands. Some will call their notebook a5 - but then they are slightly different in size than other a5s on the market - I'm not sure why! I thought these measurements were standard, but that unfortunately doesn't seem to be the case!
I love how tiny this journal is! I feel like I write too much to use a tiny journal like this. I add a lot of ephemera too, but I would love to try a small journal sometime! If you wanted to collage in this little book you could collage the inside front and back covers and maybe like the halfway mark pages? thank you for sharing! :)
Hey, I’m waiting for a Hardcover Medium A5 Sketchbook from the website, but it hasn’t arrived and I bought it over a week ago (last Wednesday) Is it normal for the sketchbook to take that long to come into the mail? Last I checked it was in New Jersey, so I’m not exactly sure when it’ll be at my location.
I got a tarot deck about a year ago and have been using it for journaling prompts! It's been really fun. I'd love to hear how you use your deck for journaling once you've played around with it!
I just started morning pages after watching all your old videos. But my question is can they be done in evening? My house is so busy in the morning I have no time to myself
I jumped back on the morning pages wagon, on day 26 now. Julia Cameron says that it's best in the morning, but doing it whenever it suits you is better than not doing it at all.
I agree with Eveline! Julia Cameron definitely suggests doing them in the morning before you have a chance to do or think about anything else - but if evening works better, I say go for it!
Ya do know about B6 size right????? So often you go back and forth between A6 or pocket and A5 and have issues……B6 girl lol. You’re like Goldilocks and a B6 might be just right! 😊
I've tried b6 before and absolutely adore it - I think you're 100% spot on. My only issue with b6 is that it's SO tricky to find!! Any recommendations?

@@Minikiwii Ok, I NEED to try it! I want to love kawekos so much, but haven't been able to find the right nib size! BB could be it!
Love that you're thinking of combining tarot and writing. There's a book 'Tarot for writers' by Corrinne Kenner, I haven't read it but know people who have and swear by it. Apparently John Steinbeck and Stephen King also use tarot in their writing practice, so you'll be in good company.
Oooh I haven't read it - and had NO idea that Steinbeck and King use tarot?! I have to look into this!
Also I’ve never heard of the Tarot-Journal prompt idea…you should definitely make a more in-depth video on that if you end up liking that (or show how you get prompts through tarot). To me, that would be fascinating and magical 💚
Sounds like a plan! Need to play a bit more but YES - tarot video will be coming
@@OverallAdventures I can’t wait!! 💚
Thank you for these suggestions!!
I feel so happy when u upload a video !!
Thank you so much
Love it!
Me too! Have just started reading it and am loving it so far ❤
I did too and I loved it. I did try and pace myself, only reading a few entries at a time. It's a beautiful book that will get many re-reads for sure.
Oh my gosh! I'd love to hear your thoughts on it
You write a lot, tina. I still have mine since january lol
I was definitely on a roll with this one lol. Plus - the collage really helped make it move even faster!
That's so interesting! What kind of fountain pen/ink do you use on MD paper? I feel like I just really had the wrong combo in this case
Ooo! Could you do a video of tarot prompts pls? 🖤 such a cool idea!
Definitely!!
Glad to hear there is some interest! I'm happy to talk about it for sure
I can’t wait until you come back to RUclips. I want to see that baby!! I miss your video content.
Oooh LOVE the idea of collaging the front and back! My inside covers are typically super plain so this would be a super fun way to change it up
How is your Leuchtturm behaving with the broad nib fountain pen and mine is getting bratty with an xf nib.
Are you referencing an order from the Leuchtturm website? I'm unfortunately not sure when it will arrive at your location - hopefully soon!
@@OverallAdventures Yes, I did order from the website
I got a tarot deck about a year ago and have been using it for journaling prompts! It's been really fun. I'd love to hear how you use your deck for journaling once you've played around with it!
YES! Love that everyone is into this idea!
I love me some archival ink!!
Ya do know about B6 size right????? So often you go back and forth between A6 or pocket and A5 and have issues……B6 girl lol. You’re like Goldilocks and a B6 might be just right! 😊
She’s been in the b6 before.
@@Coffee-Makeup-Stationary I know! Teasing
@@jennifercarter3309 I DID purchase a B6 Leuchtturm after watching her video though.😂 I have the Leuchtturm a6- it ain’t right. Lol…
I've tried b6 before and absolutely adore it - I think you're 100% spot on. My only issue with b6 is that it's SO tricky to find!! Any recommendations?
After coming from an old school Tomoe river paper notebook and working with a stalogy currently, it's been ROUGH.
YES YES YES to this.
Yet another poor soul who became a huge paper snob after experiencing some seriously good paper. Just like me! :D
HAHA! Ain't it the truth!
You should read one of your entry’s!
You talk so poetically and I’m sure you write so beautifully. I don’t want to sound like a creep lol
