    I do my monthly budget in my journals. It’s fun to look back on and see the price difference in things, what subscriptions (for example) I stay consistent with, my pay check going up or down etc. also very practical to keep a snapshot of the budget in an easy to see place to avoid overspending!

    A thing I really like doing at the end of every journal is doing a countdown for the last ten pages, with a different theme for each list. 10 things I'm grateful for, 9 of my most FAVORITE foods, 8 of my favorite entries, etc etc. It's great, and I change the themes per journal, so it's less of a checklist to fill out and more enjoyable for myself. Plus, it's fun coming up with them as I go down the numbers.

    When I was younger the last few pages of my journals were for rough coloring/scribbling. When frustrated I would take a crayon and press down hard, I’d wildly scribble and try to get my feelings out. Sometimes I’d do hundreds and hundreds of small tiny circles, sometimes I’d make swirls. I like these ideas and I’m approaching the end of my current journal! Thank you for sharing your thoughts Tina!

    In all my decades of journaling, I had never really given much thought to the last page. When I was younger my journals were letters to imaginary friends, like Anne Frank does to her Kitty, and in my last letter would usually thank them for their time and patience. Unlike Anne I would pick a new name for every journal.
    Lately I have been just documenting life without the letter writing aspect, but like to start my journals with a 'favourites' or 'currently' list, to give some idea of where I'm at when writing.
    As I'm coming to a close on my current journal I will give your video another look as I really like the ideas you've shared here.

    I am sooooo inspired by all of this! I have predominantly written my journals with the intention that I will pass them down to my future children and as a result, most of my journal is just straight-up letters with little variation in between. I haven't allowed myself to really OWN the journal because it was meant for someone else, but I am trying to really dig deep and work through ways to put more than letters into my journals and this gave me so much creative fire, I am SO EXCITED to try ALL of these, thank you so much!

    The inside of the back cover is usually a running vocab list of all the new-to-me words I encounter throughout the journal. Looking back, it is interesting to see with what language I was surrounding myself. But lately, the ease of google has me just right clicking the word, learning the definition and keeping on with whatever I'm doing.

    Sometimes on the last page I write about the journal itself, the story of how & when I acquired it (if I bought it for myself what caught my attention, why did I select it over the others, why I was in the shop that day, etc. - there’s always a story, but I like to use only one-page in the telling, sometimes not even a full page) or from whom it was a special gift, or what is unique about it, or what I like about it (design or quality), or what creative alteration I did to it....You get the idea. This “last page” could be written first if the key part of the story already happened and you don’t want to let the memory fade before recording it; or maybe just write the first paragraph and add to it later as the journal journey progresses.

    I have a tradition I've developed over the last few journals (maybe the last 5 or 6?) where my first entry for the notebook is to make a bunch of predictions about where I'll be in a whole load of areas of my life by the end of the journal. Then my last entry is to go back to the predictions and see how accurate they were. Sometimes they're spot on, and sometimes they're way, WAY off... but it's always fun seeing where I thought I'd be and when.

    Ah what an interesting video! I’ve never given much thought to the Last Page, so I’m excited to try these out! Especially the author bio/acknowledgements!!! Because even if I didn’t re read my journals from start to finish, it would be SO interesting to flip to each author bio and smile, thinking “Yepp that was totally me during that time”. 💚

    OMG TINA, WHERE DO I BEGIN??
    This was such a juicy, inspiration-filled video that I totally needed!! I often struggle with what exactly to write in those last pages or last page, and this video not only gave me ideas for specifically the last page but also things I could include as I’m working towards that page. I LOVED the playlist idea and was just thinking, why don’t we pick a song per day? So at the end of an entry we write down a song that we feel captures that entry or that particular day and then when we get to the last page, we flick back and combine all the songs!! I also LOVED the acknowledgements and author bio idea and wish I had heard of it sooner!! Lovely, lovely video, thank you so much for making it 🌻🌻

      My first proper journal and I've used the last page to write out the contact info in my phone.. I know it sounds weird, but I know eventually I'll change phones or lose details and these are the people in my life right now. Some may be forever and others for a moment... I thought it'd be nice to have a space like a traditional address book. Won't do it for every journal, but for my first it seemed like a nice point.

    I love your channel & your ideas.....even tho I approach journaling in a different way. I think journal books are very attractive but I've never bought one. I have used spiral bound, 200 page, 8 x 11" notebooks since Nov. 1976. I have 45 of them now. (that doesn't amount to one per year, tho) I like that all of my journals are the same size & just in different colors.
    If getting the smaller, pretty journal books, tho, is what helps motivate you to journal, I'm all for it ! I encourage journaling! I'm just saying that for me, the looks of what I journal in doesn't matter. I rarely see the front of my notebook I'm currently using because I keep it open to the page I'm writing on.
    There are 2 pages left in the notebook I'm currently writing in ( & have since Feb. 2021). As to what I'll write on those pages? Whatever comes to mind. I might sum up my feelings. June 10 we took one of our cats to the vet & found out she had kidney cancer. The vet gave her 2-4 wks. to live.....so, we had to make the dreaded decision. We didn't want her to suffer. It was/is heartbreaking. She was a sweet, unassuming petite calico. We miss her so much. Yeah, I might end this journal w/thoughts about little Downy. That might be an appropriate end to this journal because this month, one of our life's chapters ended.

    Thank you for sharing all these lovely ideas! I'm definitely trying a couple for my next journals. I have done the #4 idea (playlist), but usually make an art journal page where I write down all the songs that I listened to the most during that year. I've been doing this since 2012-ish and it's now a "must" in my journals :)

  • @mirandar8011
    @mirandar8011 2 года назад +1

    I do something similar to the playlist idea, but with the addition of films that I watched and books that I read during the time period I was writing the journal. I think it really helps to contextualize what I was writing because I have a tendency to branch off into some random topics as a response to the media I've been consuming. Sometimes they end up being very personal taste centered and sometimes they can be reflections of general pop culture so it can end up saying quite a bit about the overall mood I was in during the journal writing process (whether I was doing a lot of internal reflection or spending more time engaging in the world around me).

    Loved this video as always ! I have a few things I'd like to share;
    First I don't know if I ever mentioned this but I always name my journals, this might sound weird to some but it's truly my favourite thing to do. It's a great way to start a journal, I meditate and try to have a feel of what name fits the most, it's so much fun and it's also practical when I quote myself, it's easier to just say "NAME page 17" per example. So then at the last page I write a sort of love letter to that name, that journal. I say what I loved about it, the paper, the cover etc and I thank it for all it holds, for the safe space it offered me!
    When it comes to music it's also a big part of my journaling but instead of the last page it's on the front page. I always write;
    START:
    FINISH:
    SONG:
    And once I go and write the date I finished it I also write a couple of songs that kept me company in that time.
    PS: my current journal is named Matilda 🧡

    • @EvelineUK
      @EvelineUK 2 года назад +1

      I used to do this too! My journals were letters to this imaginary friend, much like Anne Frank did in her letters to Kitty, but I would think of a new name for every journal. Somewhere along the line I stopped doing that, maybe I should get back to it as it always felt like a friend was listening to all my problems, even ones I could not share with my actual friends.

    • @RavenRose86
      @RavenRose86 2 года назад +2

      @@EvelineUK the name is mostly just a tool for me to organise them, it is usually only mentioned twice, at the beginning when I explain the reason behind the name and at the end when I write my gratitude. As a child I started every entry with the famous "Dear Journal". I don't do that anymore... But it's true, writing more often as if an imaginary friend was reading it sounds so beautiful

      I don't think her flipthroughs were about sharing personal anecdotes. I felt more like she was sharing her way of putting out life, thoughts and creativity into journaling. Through her flipthroughs we could find her expressing her thought through poems which was really inspiring. She highlighted little things from her journal that she chose to show us, rest for her life still remained private to her, which I respect a lot.

    All this talk about *someone else* reading my journal one day, an audience, etc.... Not for me! That 100% makes what I write inauthentic. I write for ME and only me. Maybe we have different reasons for writing journals, or we write about very different things. Maybe other people have magical lives with nothing negative to write about, or they have no insecurities to work through in their journals. Maybe it's just me, but I would rather DIE than someone read my journal some day - at least, if they knew who wrote it.
