    Wow! This exercise really opened my eyes about authenticity and my fear of what someone my think reading my journals if I were to die suddenly. I asked my sister once if I were to die, if she would come and destroy them, now I’m not so sure I would want that. There are so many thoughts, hopes and dreams in these pages that I have only shared with a few close to me, but I think maybe my children or their children might want to know more about me when I’m gone and this might rob them of the opportunity. I have found from doing genealogy, that several of my ancestors were avid journal keepers, no one knows what happened to these journals and I feel robbed of the opportunity to know them.

    Thank You!! This was very helpful. I just started a new journal because I wasn't using my old one anymore, and it was very helpful to journal about the way I journal for a moment at the beginning of this notebook. The fail I thought about was "writing about superficial things when there are deeper things going on" and I finished with a statement about giving myself time and space and not judging the expression I find for whatever turmoil is going on in my life. (For example just writing down what I had for breakfast and what my plan for the day is on a eventfull day and then circling back after a few weeks when I have time to write about what is going on in my life on a bigger scale, allowing a bigger variance in my journal entries.) The video format was great 🥰

    To my way of thinking, the only real fail is stopping & never starting up again. I don't consider it a big deal not to write in my journal for awhile. I've gone weeks w/out writing a word. But ! I always start up again. If I haven't written for weeks, it isn't because I don't want to write, am tired of keeping a journal or anything like that. It's been at times when there just weren't enough hours in the day.
    Often, I don't write for a day or a few days. That's OK. I'll catch up as best I can. I have kept a journal since Nov. 1976. I don't give a thought to how neatly I write . There are no journal police. There are no rules or regulations. Do it your way whatever way that is....& that is just fine!

    I think it is interesting how we precive failure in Journaling. because I find that it can be helpful to set an intention for my Journaling. By saying to myself "this Journaling session I would like to exspress my feelings about xyz" or to look at my journal and say "this is specifically about my mental health." Gives me a lot more freedom and grounds me in what is happening in the moment.

      @@OverallAdventures it’s been two months and I think it would be great to get an update video about this, how things maybe changed over time and anything you learned from the comments. I specifically learned from this video and the comments how to journal in a way that is less intentional and more letting my thoughts go out onto the page. weather that be into a short story or a poem or a story idea, sometimes it’s really dark self reflection. sometimes it’s really emotive poetry about what I am going though but by journaling in this specific free flow way I am actually being more creative with the ways I talk about how I feel in my body and about my state of mind and it’s seamed to help my mood a lot.

    i filled up 7 pages!! im amazed because ive been in a "journaling slump" this whole year and i think its because i forced myself to be creative. my journal had to be pretty and decorated, otherwise it didnt make sense for me to keep journaling. but i learned during this video, that i can just be myself, just write without decorating the pages, to draw in my journal, whenever i feel like it and to not be so such a perfectionist. thank you for this video!

    So good! I had a break through: the "fail" I wrote about is that I felt like whenever I write about something new I'm learning, or write some research notes about something, I always felt like I was "wasting pages". I realised that came from my perfectionism in my real life when it comes to researching for my master's dissertation. I always feel like I have to research more, that I have to write it "in a more clever way", that I have to be "more scientific"... And I was carrying the same weight in my notebook. I realised that my journal is a safe place, no jury is going to critisize it or reject my journal because it's "not good enough" or because I jotted down some messy notes about something im learning instead of systematizing everything. In my journal I can be messy, non-scientific, all-over-the-place, and I don't have to prove with citing others everything I say, I can just say it because I feel it, I think it or because it's my personal experience. It's been very freeing, I think now I realise this I can use my journal to practice imperfectionism, so that I don't feel so much pressure when I write, even if it's an academic paper. I should have more fun with them and let my creativity show a bit more. It's supposed to be something I enjoy, not something that stresses me out 💖🙏🏻

    Anyone else struggle with journaling in front of others, family, spouse etc. I have no problem journaling in front of strangers, ie coffee shop etc. I’d love to get over this….keeps me from journaling. I think the main reason is I don’t want anyone looking over my shoulder. Being retired, hubby is always around. Any suggestions?

    • @kittyquinn004
      @kittyquinn004 2 года назад +3

      Maybe start small, so if you’re journaling in front of family, make sure you’re sitting in a place where your back is to the wall, that way you have reassurance no one is looking over your shoulder. And work your way up to being able to journal anywhere 💚

      Me! This! Even though I make videos and share with all of you all the time, journaling on camera is SO uncomfortable for me. I feel even more vulnerable for some reason. In terms of hubby, I’ve felt this way with Luke before too. I used to escape to other rooms early days in our relationship and eventually just had a super candid chat about it and asked for space while I journal. It was a game changer - now he gives me lots of space (and silence) when I’m writing but it wasn’t always the case!

    I love this journal with me format! And these questions really helpful.
    I wanted to ask about your fountain pens (I also own a Lamy and also got myself a Kaweco as a early bday gift), I was curious as to how often you find yourself having to refill the pens. I’m stepping into the world of converters and wanted to ask since I know you write at a pretty frequent pace.

    • @OverallAdventures
      @OverallAdventures  2 года назад +1

      Ooh good question! I do have a converter for this Lamy and I’m not going to lie - I have to fill it up often! Definitely once a week. The kaweko converter is even tinier - but I haven’t used that one before! There’s a way to rig kawekos to fill the whole barrel with ink, but I’m not quite sure how to do that. There are definitely RUclips videos that could help though!

    Here are my personal fails:
    - writing so illegible, that reading it later is an exhausting thing
    - my journals being boring, since in my current journal i just write
    - filling too much journals, i will never read again (I filled 18 journals in two years since I´ve started, I´m just wondering how it´s gonna look when I´m 50+), like what am I supposed to do with all of them
    - I write less about what happened that day, I write more on what bothers me, what I´m looking forward to & so on but I feel like it makes it less relevant to my future self

    • @shelmasubmarine3306
      @shelmasubmarine3306 2 года назад

      @Tree Hugging Nature Woman Oh, I have the exact same problem with sketchbooks - How I´ll try to solve it is having one sketchbook where I really try to make every page pretty and having another one where I just sketch however I want to. I don´t like that one then though since it contains many ugly pages aaah
      Why do we make it so difficult for us haha
      However, good luck with your planner, I hope it works out for you :)

      I actually get the whole finishing too many journals. For me it takes me 2weeks to a month to finish an A4. I often find myself journaling about the most simple things in such detail that I end up even forgetting about the original topic. I can write pages and pages off stuff like this. It’s often memory keeping that traps me. I can’t decide what’s worthy of being written. Me having a coffee on a Thursday afternoon on a random Tuesday or how I’ve just seen Beyoncé. It may sound good obvious ,but I feel it’s equally important to have both. When I’m reading my journals back in 40 years time and I only see the exciting things I did in my younger years when in reality there were quite a few down moments in between every exciting moment. At the same time me filling up a good couple of journals every year because I’m journaling about the simple things in life and feel like if I don’t the memory of the day will forever be lost to time. I’ve also had this feeling for a long time where the more journals I accumulate the more they lose their significance to me. The less of something you have the more significance it holds, but the older I’ve gotten the more I’ve journaled meaning I’m in and out of journals quicker than before. I don’t really get to know the journal before it’s over and I have to start the process of starting a new journal. Sorry if that came across as ranty. I just felt a bit of relation to your comment

    • @quackwackers3621
      @quackwackers3621 2 года назад

      @Tree Hugging Nature Woman I wish I could still fit all my thoughts into a sigular page, but I’m glad it works for you. Do you not find it restrictive doing that like what if one day you don’ journal as much on a page would you finish off the page with a new entry the following day or just let it be and continue on to the next

      @@quackwackers3621 Maybe it would help if you´d get massive A4-Journals. For such I needed three to four months and it was a lot of space.
      About the amount of journals - I have thought about dropping journals I don´t wanna reread really at public bookshelfs.
      Someone would be amazed. I´d just imagine me finding another persons journal.
      And If I overpaint all of the names and personal data it wouldn´t be so scary anymore.
      Maybe that´s something for you too!
      But for now I keep my journals.
