That shows Charles is trying to save his son from a ruined life. Danny is what 14, 15. It won't be long before his turns 18 and it won't be juvie anymore. It'll be big time rikers.
@Daniel Bence Danny already got arrested and Chief Stearns made a deal with Charles that he (Chief Stearns) will release Danny out of jail only if Charles fires April just so April doesn't talk about the foot soldiers over the news anymore. So for that, Danny couldn't get arrested anymore now if the Chief Of Police which is Chief Stearns agreed to release Danny.
Maybe he just needed guidance from his father and the lack of that was what allowed Danny to be easily manipulated. It’s why after he talks with Splinter he has a change of heart and reconciles with his father in the end
i think it's funny someone thought enough to upload this very specific line that is probably the only one i remember verbatim from my youth from this movie lol
If you're parents speak spanish and you're at the age of 8, you would do just like Danny did until the police found you or you eventually got caught by you dad and he beat ya even harder. If there was a Foot Clan, that's where I would be because dad's belt and mom's chancla is no joke. But then I saw Goodfellas. There nothing this man could do to make him feel like what the Shredder offered him at this time. When he was mesmerized that his father's love for him was greater than that of Shredder according to Splinter ge eventually ran from Shredder too. Poor kid. All he needs is his father to treat him like a man now. He's just a kid and the Foot Clan don't offer retirement benefits.

+dmace81 Kay, dammit, that Splinter line is another on my personal must have list. You're killing it, dude. Also, just a one off of Charles saying, "Dan...?" at the end of the movie would be tight. I once leaned over to my wife and said, "Hunny, what movie is this from", then proceeded to NAIL the impression of him saying it, complete with jerky neck movement. That was also the moment I realized not everyone else had internalized this movie to such an unhealthy degree... Glad to see there actually are others.
I think the reason Danny's been stealing, then ran away from his Dad like that and turned to the foot clan was because either his Dad & Mom got divorced or that she passed away and Danny's been so bummed about that, until later on Splinter convinced him to work things out with his Dad.
@gibbs615 Are you sure Danny's mother and his father Charles got divorced? I don't remember Charles mentioning anything about him and his wife getting divorced and he didn't mention anything about a wife. She could have passed away or something and now Charles is Danny's only family member now. Perhaps the only thing that made Danny want his dad back was when Splinter said to him "all father's care for their sons" or maybe he saw his dad wanting his dad back.
@@afriendofbean It's just a theory I have which could be possible. I know Charles never actually said anything about Danny's mother but that's what I still think happened.
@@gibbs615 Yes, Charles and Danny's mother could have gotten a divorce which could be an option. Another option is that Danny's mother passed away. Then after that he (Danny) started working for the foot soldiers since in the very beginning of the movie, it showed Danny working for a gang of street criminals which were the foot soldiers where they robbed a guys wallet and were passing it from one person to the next. However, if Danny decided to steal because of his mom (whether she divorced his dad or passed away), it would be confusing as to why he had a car stereo as Charles mentioned here since that's not money related. Also, probably if Danny is stealing because of his mom, he probably should have said it to his dad when his dad asked why he's stealing since his dad said how they have enough money to support the two of them. Somehow Danny had a change of heart not to steal anymore since in the beginning of the movie he stole twenty dollars from April's wallet and at the end of the movie he gave her the twenty dollars back.
I know Charles maybe hot headed, but, he's trying to save his son from prison. Danny is what? 14, 15? A couple of more years before 18, and it won't be juvie anymore. It'll be Rikers, real prison, and Charles is trying to save his son from that life.
@Detmstr Actually, Danny already got arrested for stealing a car stereo but Chief Stearns made a deal with Charles saying that he will release his son Danny out of jail if Charles fires April as a news reporter so she doesn't talk about the foot soldiers over the news anymore.
@@detmstr341 Well, if Danny committed another crime maybe the police wouldn't arrest Danny again since Chief Stearns who is the Chief Of Police (being higher than the other police officers) might have said to never arrest Danny for any reason because if Danny got arrested again maybe Charles would say something like "Chief Stearns, you told me if I fired April you would release my son out of jail" and if Chief Stearns said that he doesn't care, that would give Charles a good opportunity to rehire April (even though he tried sticking up for April to not fire her by telling her to take some time off from her job) after he got caught for not firing her and then fired her. If Chief Stearns then got angry at Charles for rehiring April, then Charles would have to go the next higher up which is the judge being a much higher Chief Of Police than Chief Stearns is.
I have not been a teenager for a long time but I can relate to Danny because even though his dad is obviously well-intentioned, he speaks to Danny like he's just a particularly annoying item on a very annoying and very long To Do list rather than a person and that shit hurts, man, even if it comes from a place of good intentions. With the foot clan, he builds self esteem...by stealing stuff. He has a badass authority figure...the Shredder. He gets to be treated like an adult...by doing all those salacious things that society says is "not for children". Are you paying attention, 2022? Because this shit is every bit as relevant right now as it was back then.

He needed a role model because he was an only child, his mom was gone or dead, and his dad was a major workaholic of a news station manager who never has any time for his son.
Chief Sterns told Charles that he would make the charges against Danny go away, keeping Danny's record clean if Charles got April to back off the story because he's tired of April making him look bad.

Charles should've also said, "Danny, what would your mother think of you? She always believed in you. Just imagine how disappointed she'd be in you right now."

All fathers care for their sons.
Why is this line in particular, among others, been stuck in my head for almost 30 years??
Because we r sons have a Dad like that 😂
Charles is the example of what a father should be. Fighting to save his son from ruining his life.

@@jackdavid67 Yo MaMa!
Me every time a friend said sorry for the last 34 years: Not as sorry as you're gonna be.
The dad had every right to be angry with his son, his son was arrested for stealing and he does not want his son behind bars.
Also consider the fact that Sterns blackmailed Charles earlier
