yes!! i dont have buttermilk from where im from and it gets frustrating sometimes
You guys can also try using vinegar with milk as a buttermilk substitute. Put 1 tablespoon white vinegar into a one cup liquid measure, then fill to the 1 cup mark with milk. Stir, then let sit for a couple minutes. Works great!

Buttermilk isn't very uncommon in my country. Also you can make it at home. If you've ever made butter, then it's easy. Don't throw the water that is releases when churning the butter, cuz that water is called buttermilk.

Her standards must be too high for alcohol to not be enough.
She's not that wrong though, really. Coffee's bitterness and acidity is something very few minors would like, let alone enjoy. You could imagine a 16, 15 year old kind of liking it, but imagine a 9 or 10 year old actually liking coffee.
Booze, in the other hand, depending of the type of liqueur and the type of drink that is used in, can be very flavorfull even for minors.
