I bought this album at a used record store for $2 bucks and best two bucks I ever spent.. a buddy and I loved the album and the Ray hee hee's were priceless.. after Jim Morrison says, I'm the lizard king, I can do anything, spliced in Ray.. hee hee.. or the Morrison poetry album, was it the ghost god himself, stuttering, cheering, chatting blindly.. thank you Joe, ah you're so sweet tonight folks, bless your heart, I just have to do something extra, extra special.. hee hee..

Ray did it all- Rhythm & Blues, Jazz, Swing, Stride piano- you name it he could do it!! i remember in Ray(20004) how Jame Foxx portrayed him playing Beethoven's "Moonlight 🌙 Sonata"- even better than Kobe Bryant (1978-2020). One thing about Ray I admire is how he took on ABC Paramount- he not only got a $50,000 advance (for three years) produces his material- recording costs are deducted & he receives 75% (0.75 for every $1.00)- that's a sweet deal in 1960. What I am trying to say is that he hit pay dirt & was in control of his destiny. The only thing about Ray that upsets me is that he stopped producing original material (writing his own songs). His children enjoyed the fruits of his labor- 10 of his 12 children each received $1,000,000 tax free. As his son Ray Jr. once said "My dad owed nobody". Another thing about Ray is that after his drug use in the mid 40s' til 1965, he taxed his liver beyond its limit. When he died in 2004, it was due to liver cancer- cirrhosis. Ray's cocktail of a half cup of coffee ☕, half Bols gin 🍸 & a little sugar all those years finally caught up with him. Ray once lamented "If I knew I was going to last this long, I would've taken better care of myself". Ray Charles Robinson (1930-2004)

This was recorded at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles just before the Watts Riots. You can hear the audience sounding “radical” for this era.
Ray Charles was the first concert that I went to at the Long Beach Auditorium. It was a knockout!!

Absolutely the most REAL sounding live concert, EVER! Been to many of Ray's concerts here in New Orleans.

I first heard this over 50 years ago and never knew it was on CD. I just bought it from someone on ebay. It is my favorite Ray Charles album with my favorite Ray song, "You Don't Know me."
