Can't believe I found this on RUclips! Haven't seen this in about 45 years. It was better than I remembered. My condolences to anyone who can't stomach a glimpse of small town America before it commenced circling the drain.
I've always enjoyed Donald O'Connor as partner with other dancers but it was so nice to finally see his talents front and center. Never having seen this movie I wanted to thank you for this most enjoyable show.
+Cathy Kramer I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Cathy! This is one of my favorite Donald movies, and I love seeing his talents front and center, too. Thanks for watching and commenting! :))
I love his hair in this, the return of the floppy hair at the end was my favourite. Ho knew he looked so good in knee-high boots and shoulder pats, then again he always looks positively DASHING. And maths looked even more complicated then than it seems now.
LoL. Donald O'Connor is a great dancer and lots of fun, but.... this cute little movie is not a masterpiece. It's enjoyable entertainment, and that's not nothing, but, no, not a masterpiece. Just a bit of perspective...... 🍿🎭🍿
LoveTheOConnor Hey! Great to hear from you, friend! I was so intrigued by the storyline, that I looked up the musical stage play on YT. AND--a lot of the success of the music in the film has to be via Walter Scharf! He must have a some Italian blood. He arranges the film music he was involved with faster than the the original. SUCH ZEST. Two other examples are the music in "The Joker Is Wild." The title music is STUNNING with his arrangement of "Chicago." The other example is in the original "Nutty Professor" with Jerry Lewis. The title music is "Stella by Starlight," which is given the Les Brown treatment. But more uptempo.
So glad you enjoyed it! This is one of my favorites. Donald was definitely a one and only, and you said it perfectly, he had a wonderful mix of masculinity and grace.
Wow ! difficult to find musicals with Donald O'connor in France and this movie is just GREAT !! Donald can switch between humour and charm in just a sec and be so believable. What a talent. I just love when he sings with his profound voice, he's such a crooner. so charming. I love him
That was wonderful! Such a very good story, and the songs were perfection- I can't see why this wasn't dubbed a classic! Donald O'Connor at his very best- what a shame this isn't upon TV or DVD!
I'm so thrilled you loved it! It's one of my very favorite Donald movies. Your comments have made my week--I agree with you wholeheartedly that he was the best dancer of all time...of course we'll get a lot of argument over that, but I still think it's true :)
He DOES always look dashing!! I love the boots--well, that whole knight outfit! He could rescue me any time! Another fabulous review, thanks so much :))
Thank you for taking the time for this upload for everyone to enjoy. Sadly this kind of talent is gone forever and the dedication of hard work to perform it.
I noticed around 23:40 the calliope music in the background is "something in the wind," and coincidentally, Donald O'Connor starred in the movie by the same name a year prior to this. Then I realized I've seen too many Donald O'Connor movies...
Everyone has their favourite entertainment stars, and Gene Kelly was very very good, but NO ONE could outshine the wonderful Mr Donald O'Conner. It broke my heart when we lost him, I had been in love with him since I was a child. RIP, you deserve it.❤
Never saw this feller before - so glad I took a chance. This is the kind of movie you wish would just go on and on forever! The first dance number in the saloon was so wonderful! The story was great, the jokes were excellent and the gentle approach to the Art of the Swindle was handled so perfectly - you're almost glad they took you for a ride and left you flat broke! Thanks for the upload - I'll be looking for more O'Connor movies 💖 🇨🇦
as of now, june 2013, i have seen just over 40,300 movies and i just discovered youtube has full movies. are you with it is a movie i had never found on tv, netflix, or interlibrary loans. i have no idea where you got it, but thank you very much for finding it and for uploading it.
This movie was based on the Broadway musical of the same name that ran in 1945 and reprised in 1946. This bears a lot of research for this fascinating story. The two songs in the title music overture are the title song and "What Do I Have to Do to Make You Love Me." I'm unsure if the title song was included in the movie. But the other stage musical songs were not.
+Roger Regor And the Broadway musical was based on the novel, Slightly Perfect, by George Malcolm-Smith. According to IMDb, Malcolm-Smith was an editor of an in-house periodical for an insurance company.
I remember Gene Kelly's popularity having somewhat of a revival around 1985, especially with people a few years younger than I was at the time. They were too young to have enjoyed growing up with the Donald O'Connor movies every Sunday morning on television in Los Angeles and San Francisco in the early to mid 1960's, and therefore missed out. For me it was almost a derisive "Gene who?" Kelly was great, but O'Connor was a Triple Threat!
Based on a 1945 Broadway play written by two of Jack Benny’s long term writers, the movie features comic Lew Parker as Goldie. He is the only member of the original New York cast .
Donald O’Connor was sure a talented man! Actress pre 1960s sure were talented in so many areas! Now they can barely act let alone sing and dance!!! I wish they would have many thousands more of these great oldies!
Same. I was so excited after the first few scenes, ready to have a great time, but it really falls off. I did love the fantasy number at the end, but it has nothing to do with the rest of the movie so that's really neither here nor there.
Inserting a "fantasy ballet" was almost standard for musicals in the 1940s and 50s. I think it started with Carousel and Oklahoma. The most intense fantasy ballet is definitely An American in Paris. Also, the Broadway Melody sequence from Singing in the Rain. Some of the fantasy ballet in this movie contains a riff from the fantasy ballet in Anchors Aweigh. (1:16:40) After all, cinema is fantasy! Enjoy!
HUMAN ENCLYCOPEDIA? I just died. I LOVE DONALD O'CONNOR NOW!!! It's referencing Death of a Champion!!! Donald's in it, as Small Fry, and his best (and only) friend is "Oliver Quade, The Human Encyclopedia". HILARIOUS!!
"Say something in algebra"! You just don't get true wit and humour like this today and without bad language. I was in the Navy for many years so don't mind swearing but find it a poor substitute for clever writing.
Was surprised to see that Lew Parker (later famous from 'That Girl') could dance. Man, he's only in his late 30's here...looks like he's in his mid-fifties. Lots of smokin' and heavy drinking. Sad...
I am serious! I mean, I really did like Donald's character in this movie, it might even be one of my favorites of his, but I think this movie is also pretty indicative of the times in which it was made. It's not that it made the movie bad, it just makes someone like me, who can be kind of a feminist killjoy at times, hard to enjoy it fully.
What makes this cute and humorous movie almost unbearable for you is not the movie, but the killjoy feminism that has you looking for sexism and misogyny everywhere, whether they are actually present or not. By the time you are the age this movie is now, you will see that these objections are indicative of the time of your life in which they were made. And you may well come to see that, despite the rhetoric, 2012 was in fact a much more sexist misogynist era than 1948, when all is said and done.
Don’t let that observation blind you to the strength of the female characters that had to deal with the limitations of their time. We see many lessons in here, too
Can't believe I found this on RUclips! Haven't seen this in about 45 years. It was better than I remembered. My condolences to anyone who can't stomach a glimpse of small town America before it commenced circling the drain.
Another splendid movie! And I swear, Donald's singing is angelic. And the knight number can make ANY girl swoon!
I can't get enough of these wonderful movies! 💕❤️👍👍
I've always enjoyed Donald O'Connor as partner with other dancers but it was so nice to finally see his talents front and center. Never having seen this movie I wanted to thank you for this most enjoyable show.

Any movie with this guy...INSTANT GOLD. If this guy was wound any tighter....😳
Wonderful talent.. A joy to watch 👌🏼🙏🏼
I will never get enough of Donald O Connor....❤️👍👍👍❤️. Thankful for films...
Mathematical genius! That first dance routine was amazingly funny (: ! What a shining knight he will be (:
I love his hair in this, the return of the floppy hair at the end was my favourite. Ho knew he looked so good in knee-high boots and shoulder pats, then again he always looks positively DASHING. And maths looked even more complicated then than it seems now.
Donald's dancing is loose & tight! LOL He flows effortlessly! Beautiful dancing! Love the brain!
I've never seen this film before ~ wonderful find and Donald I ❤
Just finding this master piece! Thank you for posting this 💗
LoL. Donald O'Connor is a great dancer and lots of fun, but.... this cute little movie is not a masterpiece. It's enjoyable entertainment, and that's not nothing, but, no, not a masterpiece. Just a bit of perspective...... 🍿🎭🍿
Love the tap dancing in the bar scene.........
Thank you, I loved this movie so much! I wish I could find it HD online somewhere! It's too bad that old movies like these can be so hard to come by.
Thanks! Donald has rarely been funnier! When I saw him as a knight my heart skipped a beat!
Awesome honest true romance! With the best dancer D. O’Conor and most talented beautiful singer Olga San Juan!
It's one of my favorites--he played the genius perfectly!! Was there ever a cuter knight?? He can rescue me ANY time!! :))
instaBlaster...
Tee Hee! He does grow on you real quick! So very talented!
This movie has the most wonderful music! Walter Scharf, Sidney Miller and Inez James gave us the wonderful music and arrangements.
Great story, too.
+Roger Wilco I agree, great music and great story :)
LoveTheOConnor

Love it! Absolutely! Love his dancing, & his funny bone!

He was a great dancer!
It's mind boggling that he was already married and had a three year old when he made this movie. He was twenty three. Talent out the who ha
Delightful, Heather! That table top dance was incredible! Thanks so much for posting this!

something to smile about thank you l really needed it.

Thanks for the movie. I've always been crazy for Donald O'Connor.
Thank you for taking the time for this upload for everyone to enjoy. Sadly this kind of talent is gone forever and the dedication of hard work to perform it.
Sure kept me entertained. Love old movies & Donald! Thanks for this one
This film has found its year! It was really good.
"Kinda girl you would like to take home to mother, on a night you know, mother's not home"
I'm so glad you found it and enjoyed it! Well said! Thanks so much for commenting :)

+shmadfinn There is no such thing as too many Donald O'Connor movies.
shmadfinn 23.40 in atheist FREEMASONRY means no real. You're strange.
Are you a mason?
There are never to many Donald O'Connor movies, the same is true about Deanna Durban movies, as is "Something In The Wind."
Never too many
Those were the days. 😊
And the nights. Days were only 10 hours long when the dinosaurs were in charge, and nights were included then.

LA ESCENA DEL BAR ES SENCILLAMENTE UNA ''CLASE MAGISTRAL ''.
Thanks again, that means a lot--love hearing that the uploads are being enjoyed! :)
very talented people.. Amazing how gracious a human body was before GMO food. R/S
O'Connors are special.
He's right next to my favourite dancer of all time: Michael Jackson. And to be equal to him in dancing, is a GREAT compliment coming from me ;)
Delighted you enjoyed it, thanks for commenting :)
Well, you've put in the effort to upload, the least I can do is give you a thumbs up and a word of thanks :)
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
From a mad keen 76yo Aussie fan.
Great movie...
lol what a great movie. Thanks for the upload
+Lars Rye Jeppesen Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting :))
Amen 🙏🏻
Really cute movie. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting :))
Another good one !
Why weren't my math-lessons in school so handsome? I mean gorgeous... I mean..good-looking... I MEAN...... !!!! oh never mind :P
The movie starts out really cool but kind of fizzles out for me after the 20:58 minute mark. A really great dance number in the bar.
Same. I was so excited after the first few scenes, ready to have a great time, but it really falls off. I did love the fantasy number at the end, but it has nothing to do with the rest of the movie so that's really neither here nor there.

There's song that sound like the commercial "Everybody doesn't like something. But nobody doesn't like Sara Lee."
+Vladislov Kyzinski That's "What Do I Have to Do to Make You Love Me?" sung by Donald. :)
Roger Regor
DingDanged great movie with great tunes!
+Vladislov Kyzinski Hey Vlad, the title song "Are You With It" is sung at 28:47.
+Vladislov Kyzinski That's "What Do I Have To Do to Make You Love Me" at 51:10. It has some clever insert editing.
Another great one. Thanks
"Say something in algebra"! You just don't get true wit and humour like this today and without bad language. I was in the Navy for many years so don't mind swearing but find it a poor substitute for clever writing.
Siberian Donald in Georgian clothes? LOL I love this movie)))))
Was surprised to see that Lew Parker (later famous from 'That Girl') could dance. Man, he's only in his late 30's here...looks like he's in his mid-fifties. Lots of smokin' and heavy drinking. Sad...
The narrator at start of the movie sounds like actor Edmund O'Brien. He was married to Olga San Juan.
Sensacional
magical. Bless the studios for squeezing so many films out of their actors. Dnld should have been doing better stuff by this stage.
At 34:40, that's Noel Neill, who played Lois Lane on the George Reeves TV series Superman.
unlike many scriptwriters the technical jargon wss fairly accurate in this movie....
"Is it a bird,? is it man? It's Super knight !" Sound familiar ?
"Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee" commercial music at :38. The entire vocal is later.
Grand!
That sure looks like Noelle Neal as one of the Ali Baba girls. She was soon to become Lois Lane in the tv series Superman.
fab movie
This movies the best
haha, he's brilliant in this movie with maths. I am terrible with maths.
Ha! I know what you mean :D
Sorry, I don't see what you find so offensive. And aren't most movies indicative of the times in which they're made?
The title song with lyrics is at 28:47.
+Roger Wilco Another great lyrical song at about 1:14.

Bet you'd love another movie from those days, 'Every Girl Should Be Married'.
Feminists are not kill joys. Stay strong, stay awesome. 💚
What makes this cute and humorous movie almost unbearable for you is not the movie, but the killjoy feminism that has you looking for sexism and misogyny everywhere, whether they are actually present or not. Goldie the character is a misogynist, but I think the movie itself is actually pretty good on that front. It depicts sexism, it doesn't endorse it.
