Why, oh why, can’t they make beautiful movies like this anymore? I loved every moment. I wasn’t even a glint in my parent’s eyes in 1945, but I completely identify with the 1940’s. I love the music. I love the fashions. I love the furs. I love the beauty of it all. Women today just don’t get it.
My dad was a 17 year old cellist for conductor Alfred Newman on the soundtrack here. Never got back into music after the war and passed in 1992 after I graduated college. Played behind Sinatra too on Hit Parade Radio Broadcasts. Thanks for the upload.
We can't ever see movies like these because those that made them are gone and it was a different time it was an Era when people had morals respect and movies were clean I grew up with these movies I miss them so much if we could only go back in time it would wonderful 😊
MY HUSBAND'S UNCLE HARRY WARREN COMPOSED ALL THE MUSIC FOR THIS FILM...THANKS FOR POSTING FOR OUR ENJOYMENT!! LOVE IT!! WASN'T BETTY GRABLE JUST A REAL GREAT LADY!!!
Thank you SO much for this movie!!! It's Betty at her best. Betty has always been like a ray of sunshine in my life and has given me so much joy through her singing, dancing, acting and her bubbly personality! We'll never see the likes of Miss Grable again.
Betty was something else. Back in the day, studios knew exactly the kind of escapist entertainment people wanted - lush tunes, gorgeous, over-the-top costumes...it is such fun to look at these and giggle. But this also has a great roster of talents - Alfred Newman, (Uncle of Randy) music director...George Seaton directing.. and Beatrice Kay is absolutely terrific. What a fun movie....
We're living through hard times in 2022, where's the 21st century versions? So many new movies and TV shows plunge into new depths of violence, sex, profanity, vulgarity and "social agendas", I would love to watch some large scale, widescreen, lavish musicals and romantic comedies and adventures today!
Obviously the women on camera were deemed "more beautiful ." There are plenty of beautiful women nowadays who are not willing to parade for men or be on camera.
I absolutely enjoyed the show at the beginning. Beautiful women dress as cooking spices.. so entertaining! Why can’t we have something like this nowadays
The opening number is the quintessence of refined cheesiness building up to the entrance of Betty Grable who never had a bad shot or line . . . I loved it!
Harry Warren is the most underrated of Songbook tunesmiths IMO. I would put him at the very top of the second division, just below the Big Four (Gershwin, Berlin, Porter, Kern) but up with Nacio Herb Brown, Rodgers, Arlen and Youmans. Glad to see Harry now has a fan club pushing him.
After "When my baby smiles at me" [1948],. Diamond Horseshoe is my 2nd best Betty Grable movie. A intelligent narrative that teaches you why education is so very important in life. A young man practicing medicine decides to abandon his career as a doctor for one in show business as a singer. But, it takes a strong woman to guide him and realize his true calling. Dick Haymes plays the aspiring doctor and Betty Grable the intelligent dancer. Packed with lovely songs and dances by the most successful blonde star, 20th Century Fox ever had, Betty Grable is a dream in Technicolor entertaining the audience with Welcome to the Diamond Horseshoe, Acapulco [my top fave], I wish I knew, You'll never know. Dick Haymes too chips in with her golden voice giving us a treat to those hit numbers: The more I see you and I wish I knew. I must stick my neck by writing that though Marilyn Monroe got top billing in How to marry a millionaire, it was the Fox Queen, Betty Grable who pleased critics and walked away with all the acting plaudits.
Definitely imitating Sinatra in his spot with the band. Frank was cresting his first wave of popularity, screamed over by bobbysoxers and even hoofing with Gene Kelly. Soon Johnnie Ray would outdo everyone in the sob stakes. Haymes fell somewhere between Sinatra's swing and Ray's soppiness.
@@irmalair1 Eleanor Powell's legs were Insured for a million also. But in her case, it was because of her dancing ability. The studio would lose a lot of money if anything happened to Powell's legs.

I love fur coats. My grandfather was a furrier and my grandmother always had a pile of furs in her closet. My cousin and I used to take all of her minks and make a nest in the bottom of her walk-in closet and sleep in them.
Shame about the animals that were killed for their skin & fur eh, not to worry as long as you are happy.. sadly fur is back with 17million yes millions in mink farms in Belgium killed every year. They were all gassed due to Covid last year. It's gross with many more farms throughout the world in millions again.
Boy I bet you're a real buzz kill at parties. Do you yell at people for eating meat too? Or using any modern medicine that was tested on animals? I don't like cruelty to animals either but criticizing a 70+ year old movie for having furs is pretty stupid, don't you think?
I love these old movies. Especially around the holidays. Cold, winter nights..with PJ's on, heat on with some hot chocolate and popcorn snuggles up in bed watching these oldies oan follow me on ig: dammpamm
What a fabulous classic movie! It brought back fond memories of my dad and mom. My dad worked with Beatrice Kay (Claire) at the Elmwood Casino. He was in the band there. Betty Grable and my dad were born in the same year. Betty and I share the same birthday!
Years ago I read Harry James biography. His band in the late 30s was first to hire Frank Sinatra, but after only a year or so, he agreed to let Sinatra out of the contract to go to Tommy Dorsey band. Harry James was married to Betty Grable for several years, but his gambling and drinking ruined the marriage. Dick Haynes was the lead singer after Sinatra was released. He and Betty had affairs for awhile too.
Betty also turned her anger onto her children, as confirmed by her late daughter Jessica in the biography, "Pin-Up: The Tragedy Of Betty Grable" by Speros Pastos.,
Carmen Miranda doesn't interact with the rest of the cast because she wasn't in Hollywood while the film was being made. She was performing in New York at the time and was filmed separately.
Because in those days there were no blacks, Hispanics, Asians, gays, communists, or poor people in America, and women had no navels--couldn't you tell from the movie?
Thank u Wikipedia, so I was right when I said Argentina, i did not know what part but it was Argentina. Thank God 4 my memory, and you enlighted me on other things also about Dick Haymes, I liked him very much. Thank u 4 listening Maria is my name.

"The show must go on" The saying and principle are traditional in the theatre, but they both originated in the 19th century with circuses. If an animal got loose or a performer was injured, the ringmaster and the band tried to keep things going so that the crowd would not panic because "it is a point of honor not to let the other players down by deserting them when no understudy is available". Later on, the phrase was more broadly applied to the hotel business and show business in general. Eventually, the phrase was used to convey the idea that an event or activity must continue even if there are problems or difficulties, with or without regard to actual show business
Just everything that was good about Hollywood. Love the classics much more worth watching than today's films. Thanks!!!

Women today are men. It's a sad time to be alive.
Because they are sleazy now days. Back then they were classy.
Indeed...can you imagine Grable's reaction to designer jeans with knee holes?
Dont love the furs the poor animals don't like it!

Too bad they picked Frank Sinatra over Dick Haymes. Haymes sang better but, Sinatra was Pushier.

I don't think they could afford to make these kind of musicals now.
What a beautiful voice. Was that his real voice?
yes, in his day he became as popular as Sinatra, a very smooth tenor/baritone as was early Sinatra.
Absolutely it is. He had one of the best male voices of the 40s and 50s.
