If you dig that, might I recommend looking into Jeanette's discog. Spanish artist that's perhaps not as Mod as Margo, but a pretty similar vibe overall. Romantic balladry, soft vocals, great orchestral instrumentation; its certainly a vibe regardless :)
@@rainbow-jw3og Here in South america people go to the airport and the hotels to meet their favorite artists and give them gifts or just talk to them. I went to the hotel before they left my country and Molly came out to talk to us and took some pictures!
@@majordisappointmentspeaking Most festivals here put all the artists in the same hotel. It's just a matter of waiting for a band member to post a pic of the hotel or the view on instagram to know where they are.
That’s crazy! They came into the coffee shop I work at when they were in SLC and I was so stoked just to talk to them and make them coffees, very nice band
It should have probably left 2 songs out of the record and not get too crazy with the coke in order to not overextend with pointless jams and arrangements great songs like All around the world. Something similar happened with the second Stone Roses album. But now some people say that if Be Here now would have included some of the B sides that they included in The Masterplan that then it would have been the third consecutive classic album by Oasis
I love Alvvays, I started listening to them like in 2015 and they have been one of my favorite bands ever since. I love their sound and their whole aesthetic as a band. Their songs are so catchy and filled with nostalgia. My favorite song is "Party Police", i think its one of those perfect songs structurally and sonically. I love the structure because its so simple, I like simple songs, and lot of Alvvay's music is simple like that. Molly's vocals are so blissful to listen to, she has a very young and childish style of singing which i very much enjoy.
I'm easily old enough to be their father, but I think Alvvays is a great band, and I'm really glad to see they have such great [which is to say kinda old school] taste. And hey - go Leafs go.
I remember watching wallows do what’s in their bag and alvvays was one of the bands featured and are now one of my favorite artists. I guess it’s nice coming full circle and seeing them do this now
Man every time I watch one of these videos I am reminded as a music junkie how much depth I lack in taste from a classic music standpoint. 😂😂 also, as for Alvvays, In Undertow is an amazing song.
I remember queuing up outside HMV in Manchester to buy it on the day it was released. I wanted to love it but i was disappointed. It must be 20 years since I last listened to it. Think I’ll give it another spin soon.
Oh man, I disagree. The songwriting used to be good and as they got more popular (and busier and higher) it got lazier and lazier and studio methods tried to fill in the gaps and we ended up with these highly polished signposts to nowhere.
"Someone loved it and owned it" I loved that line, I had to rewind the video to hear it several times haha. I love used records, I try to imagine what was the last time it was played, what kind of people owned it. If only records could speak and tell us stories about their past owners.
Be Here Now reminds me of Blue Rev in some ways. The third album of both bands. In both cases, compared to previous releases, more washy sounding backing guitars and vocals that are difficult to make out.
"Jesus of Cool" was renamed "Pure Pop for Now People" for the U.S. audience. I actually like the latter name better, it is definitely more descriptive of the album's music. After listening to "Blue Rev" a thousand times, I'm shocked that they didn't pick out a Smiths album.
Martin Newell? DID NOT see that coming. Big fan here. Especially of his poems, stories and his web log about 15 or so years ago. Fantastic story teller.
I had a bunch of bootlegs of Oasis at the Roseland Ballroom from 1997 during the Be Here Now Tour. Tthe wall of guitar, the vocals...you could feel the cocaine through your earphones...butloved it and still do. It was overhyped, over the top, but utterly amazing.
Be Here Now is a terrific rock album if you don't try too hard to overanalyze it. Appreciate that you could put THAT many guitar tracks onto an album from a pure standpoint of human feat.
Agreed. Just like... enjoy it for what it is and just have fun with it. That's my response to anyone who feels they have a 'scathing take' on Oasis lol.
Nice to see them select several of my favorites (The Who, Byrds, Fall, Margo Guryan) but wow, Molly knows Martin Newell!! If she doesn't already have it, she needs The Greatest Living Englishman on LP.
It was so neat seeing Alec get Enya's 'Shepherd Moons', and that certainly was my own introduction to Enya back in 1991. But three years later, I finally listened to 'Watermark', which was her 1988 album that came before 'Shepherd Moons', and was amazed that, aside for the upbeat 'Orinoco Flow', it was quite a dark and moody affair of an album. I found it a difficult listen many times, but it did get me through a lot of heartbreak. To this day, 'Watermark' remains my personal favorite, though I still absolutely love 'Shepherd Moons'.
Martin Newell, TV Personalities and the Fall! those are 3 AMAZING picks. Guess I'll go listen to what this band Alvvays sounds like now. Never heard of them till now but I am optemistic
Lovely folks! I met these two post gig in 2014 when they toured Britain. I had a lovely chat with them and Kerry in Cambridge. I definitely love Enya,The Fall and The Byrds, however i never got Oasis whatsoever. But I’ll park that one and concentrate on Alvvays as a band.
Love that they buy records the way I do, taking wild chances, buying an album you only know one song off, getting a CD without even having a CD player. I feel very seen here by a band I love.
Old enough to have had " pure pop for now people" original LP played on my BIC turntable through a Panasonic stereo system at the parties.. Nick Lowe wrote a bunch of great power pop songs
I think we all know who really gave us the definitive rendition of "Send in the Clowns" ... the one and only Herschel Shmoikel Pinchas Yerucham Krustofsky, aka Krusty
"Their songs are sort of cloud-parting and could be put on at any time. It transports you to this happy place." I say the same thing about Alvvays!
The whole time I'm like dude Molly, your songs are wayy better
I love the phrase “cloud-parting” to describe a sound or music vibe. Such a perfect descriptor!
thought the same thing when she said that!
Did she ever get married to that guy? Artie I think his name was?
The Byrds and Alvvays are both magical bands with a certain special sound that no one else can quite duplicate. I adore them both.
You can really tell how deep the two of them are into music
No wonder their music is so rich and interesting
It’s well informed

Margo Guryan is exactly what i searching for in months. Whisper vocals, gentle arrangement, 60's atmosphere. Great, thank you, Alvvays

You’d like Jessica Pratt
She’s the female Nilsson
You want more? Look for "Titanic Rising" (Weyes Blood), the first two records from Broadcast, Vashti Bunyan, Julia Holters "Loud City Song"...
@@palo4098 oh, thank you, i will check out that artist

It is ALVVAYS great seeing them.
I attended their gig in Singapore and they started the show with the intro of Enya's 'The River Sings'. You can tell how much Alec adores her music!

they’re such amazing people, i’ve had to the luck of meeting them and seeing them 3 times in 2022 and i’ll be seeing them 4 times this year :)
Though I like them all and have been on board since '95 Be Here Now has always been my favorite Oasis record. There are dozens of us!
Be Here Now is an underrated and misunderstood Oasis album. That is a great pick
