It's SO great to see these dresses and pants made up and modeled!!! There are several patterns you showed that I bypassed because they were shown on size zero models. Love your videos. My daughter lives in Melbourne!!

Lovely makes. I've only just made the Wilder Gown this week. I tend to veer away from patterns that become so popular at the beginning as I don't like jumping on the band wagon. Like you, I wasn't sure of the volume in this dress, so made the skirt less volumous and I think I like it. I love your material in yours. Thanks for sharing 😻

Your blouse looks like McCalls M8042. I made a pattern like this when I was in high school. The waist of those pants is great. I love the tailored fit in the front and the elastic in the back. Well done.

I think the wilder blouse and dress is for a tall slender model type and lets face it most of us are not that willowy! It do prefer it open at the neck and the fabric print is lovely. Your pant look fantastic!

I totally agree! I think a tall, statuesque person with a longer neck would suit it perfectly. I feel a bit overwhelmed in it! Thanks for watching!

Thank you, Kristen. I especially love the pants - great colour choices too. A tip for the Wilder gown/top - if you like to wear it open, stitch one or two rows of shirring elastic along the base of the neckline. The ties may be removed or shortened. If you like a slight stand up collar, press the collar using spray starch. It really changes the look!

I am so glad to see you in the Pietra pants. I have the pattern and have read it and reread it. I am going to go and trace the pattern and then do a muslin and make them up. I need pants desperately and this gives quite a few views. I love the fabric of the blouse but the Wilder is not my aesthetic. I am 5'4" and have always heard when trying to style a look, the wider the hem the shorter and heavier I will look. Beautiful review. Thank you.

  • @39houndsteps

Hi kristen I definitely prefer the neck open on the green blouse. The black one could go either way, probably because the black fabric has a little less body maybe. Both look good on you.......just a different style to your usual.
I love the pants on you and will put this one on my “hmmmmm” list. I don’t make a lot of pants due to the usual “fitting” issues, but hope to be attending a pants fitting workshop in May (if the world is back to some semblance of normal by then). This looks like a lovely pattern to use.
Anyway, It’s great to hear you will be our pants guinea pig. Thanks and I am looking forward to seeing what you sew.

Beautiful outfit and great analysis of both patterns. I've not been a fan of the Wilder but your blouse is the first one I've liked. The fabric is gorgeous. I think it looks great on you open and tied especially because it is still open below the tie when it's done up. The pants are killer! Those I think I need. Thanks for a great video. Gorgeous outfit, and another awesome and thorough review. I seriously love your vlogs!!!!The pants fit you perfectly, I have avoided pants for a few years now as they never fit right. Actually even when I was a thin chic they never fit right!! But now with a menopausal tummy it is shocking. I really like how they fit you, flat in the front and a slight gather in the back. I totally agree with you about the blouse, definitely better open, I would feel claustrophobic with it done up. xxxxxxxxx

@@thedahliasewciety Hahaha yes food is good!!! I have to pattern adjust the waist all the time now, or just go for a flowy fit dress. I have lots of dress patterns on the go. Hi there, thank you for your lovely sunny videos, I’m a new subscriber and they’re perfect to keep our spirits up. Your Pietra pants look fab and I agree with everything you said about them! I made a slim leg pair in olive linen last year, which I wore loads with a white linen Cielo top. I also made a wide leg pair in a striped viscose which I didn’t feel as good in, but I’ll definitely be making more in linen this summer....and maybe the shorts too if I’m feeling brave enough!

Just past menopause I’ve discovered everything shifts and the middle thickens. So pants get harder to fit. Pants are one of the easiest things to sew! I can whip one up really quickly. But I’ve been doing elastic waist bands and fit is so much easier. I need to try these, very flattering

The Wilder gown looks quite similar to my weddingdress from 1980 that I sewed for myself 😊 The pattern was Very Easy Vogue 2053 and one can find it on Etsy still. I didn’t find it so bulky round the neck though and when I looked at the pattern pieces there was a neck ruffle piece that you sewed on. The whole dress was very A-lined as well which creates volume at the bottom but not so much at the top. It wasn’t tiered either and it was supposed to be cinched in by the waist with a cummerband. I didn’t tie the neck ruffle either, had a string of pearls to show off. The fabric I used was a crepe with quite a heavy feel and a fantastic swirl. Loved the look!

I just looked upon the pattern and it was a stunning dress! I think its timeless! Mine....not so much! It was 1992 and the huge puff sleeves were a thing! haha is hasn't aged well. Its so beautiful that you sewed your own wedding dress! Do you still have it?

I think you are right re the neck on the blouse. Perhaps if you have your hair tied up it wouldn’t look so ‘fabric dense’ but the blouse looks lovely with the open neck. The Pietra pants are awesome! I have just cut these out and now feel inspired to make them ASAP! I have a gorgeous dark brown linen to make the cropped wide leg pair. Fortunately I have made a pants block which has helped a lot in pants fitting. I plan on wearing them with the Seamwork Bo again in a nice lightweight linen. I am also going to give the Free Range Slacks a try as well ❤️

Love your videos and may try the pants as I am still on the look out for the perfect pattern due to waist and hips mismatch - whilst remaining the same weight my waist is growing and my bum is shrinking with age. I thought I had found the perfect pants fabric in a black stretch linen but the fabric takes the stretch part of its name very seriously and I had to make 2 adjustments as the fabric quickly expanded with wear.

I can relate so much about trying to find a pant that fits me from a store. The only place I have found that makes pants for women our age, is from the Home Shopping Network, HSN. Don't know if you have it there, but a brand called Diane Gilman does fit for us. She makes jeans that are amazing. They are online too, so if you don't get their channel, you could look them up. I’ve tried both these patterns. I felt the same about the Wilder Gown; I opted for the top and having that neckline tied up wasn’t for me so I opt for having it open when I do choose to put in on - jury is still out! The Pietra pants I’m not sure about? I think they look great on everyone else but I think I definitely need a flat seat adjustment, and choose a different material. Maybe this has given me a push to do that while we’ve got a bit more time to sew! Take care, Kim x

I’ve made the blouse in a gorgeous print but made the mistake of choosing a size that’s a bit tight round my hips if i wear it outside of pants. I’m wondering if I could insert a triangle (like a godet) into the side seams so it flares out a bit more. I really like it otherwise.

The Wilder pattern is deceptive, it looks so roomy but I have made the gown and the top (gown first) and did a small FBA for the top which improved the fit. The gown tends to ride up a bit because I didn't do the adjustment.

Yes I'd definitely try that! Especially if you'll end up wearing it more often! Thank you so much!

Love the fabrics you've chosen. Colour is beautiful on you and fits with where u film the videos. Agree with u re wilder pattern...Not for me. I do like the blouse when u leave neckties open.

The wilder dress/ top is very cute but a little too much fabric too me, love the print of your top.... I will only make leggings and jogger but that’s only pants I’ll make!

Thanks Kristen! You are my favourite vlog. I look forward to it every week. We are similar age, stlye and have similar tastes. I have been eyeing off this pattern since release and purchased it from indie stitches last week. You look fantastic. Keep up the joy, inspiration and fun. Xx

You're lovely but not the style of these two patterns. There have been many that were more flattering. I can't do front pockets.
