  • I finally got around to fixing the red linen Pietra pants I made last year! I modified the height of the waistline. I also made another pair of pants with leafy cotton and cropped them Capri length.
    I had a thrifted denim skirt piece I had seam ripped from a bodice this summer and completed yet another UFO.... a pair of Pietra shorts. I took some liberties with the cutting and added a sneaky extra seam. Lots to see today: waist height lowered, hems trued and pockets pieces to save fabric.

    My specifics:
    Red Linen pants View B
    * Size 16
    * Took in at the side seams 3/8” extra, making this a total of 1.5” less ease at the hips for an acceptable fit
    * Lowered the waistline from the top by ¾”
    *Cropped at ankle length
    Green cotton pants View B
    *Size 14
    *Lowered the waistline from the top by 3/4”
    *Capri length, trued the hems to this new length.
    Refashioned shorts from a denim skirt. View C
    *Size 14
    * Drew a lengthen line 4” up from the hem on all the pattern pieces
    * Added 6” between the slash line making sure the grain-line marks line up on the “separated” pieces. Trued seams.
    * Pieced the pocket piece to save main fabric
    *Cut facings and waistband on the cross-grain
    *Added a center seam to the back pattern piece to have them fit into my denim skirt fabric

    Clever manipulation of fabric/pattern of denim shorts. One more tip to store in my mind. Really like all three. Resisted buying pattern because of the price, but the uniqueness of the design and your sharing convinced me to purchase. Thanks once more for always bringing more depth to sewing knowledge, even to an old sewer like myself!!

    I love the green fabric. You mentioned that the green fabric was heavier then other linen you used for the Pietra pants. In your opinion, would a canvas fabric that is recommended for apparel, and pants specifically, work for Pietra pants? I am concerned that the elastic in the back waist would make the canvas too heavy and thick at the waist. Thank you.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  3 года назад +1

      I wouldn’t use canvas for the reasons you mention, it’s too heavy.. Both the linen and cotton are medium weight, the cotton feels more structured and sturdy than the linen.

    Hello our sewing GURU ! Queen of sewing , and sewing problem solver 💕 😋. Lovely pants ! I left a message on yr first vlog regarding this pattern , now I found this vlog . I need to ask do u prefer to use cotton or sateen bias binding on linen pls ? Would u ever consider making this pants without the elastic at the back and insert a zipper in the back or the front ? What do you think 🤔?
    Keep safe dear xx

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 года назад +1

      I did see your comment on the other video and did reply there. I prefer very light weight cotton bias tape. Even better, rayon bias tape.
      No, this style does not work with a zipper. The drafting is made with excess in the back for the elastic. It would need complete redrafting to make it fitted to need a zipper. It’s best to look for another pattern if fitted pants are preferred.

  • @amandarenshaw2940

    Love all your versions. Thank you for showing how you adapted the pattern. I made some pietra shorts last year but find them too baggy around the front crotch. I’ve ordered some more linen to try again. If I use the shorten/lengthen lines do you think that will sort that issue!

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 года назад +2

      The shorts are more roomy at the hip, so I sized down a size. The crotch tends to feel roomy because the waist is so high and it tends to drop to the natural waist and not above it, giving the dropped crotch look. That’s why I shortened the rise too.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 года назад +2

      Cherie C these aren’t jeans or fitted pants. Those types of styles have zero ease on the rise. These are looser and they aren’t meant to be fitted at the front. Before adjusting they were hitting very much lower on the crotch. I’m happy with the fit now. Linen also will give and Thats ok for me too.

    Hi Karina. I am strongly considering buying this pattern and have looked at a lot of reviews and tagged pics of these pants for inspiration. Almost all of them that I've seen have an extraordinary amount of gathering in the back which usually doesn't look good. Some people have resorted to making back darts and/or adding a side zipper to reduce the excessive and unflattering gathering. Yours doesn't have the excessive gathering a lot of them have, however. They are perfect! How did you get the fitting so nice? Did you make alterations to the fit?

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  6 месяцев назад

      The only change I did was to make the rise lower as they are extremely high waisted.

  • @cindyw4278

    I have just made the pietra pants and they are drafted for on the waist but mine are way to high. Thankfully i used a muslin fabric. Did you trim the 3/4 inch from the front and back facings? And then did you trim the pant front and back 3/4 inch also. Thanks.

    Loving the videos but way too many adverts, leaving mid video because of them :(

      That’s your choice of course. RUclips is a free platform and that is the nature of free content. Ads are a way to recuperate the enormous costs of running a channel like mine, where every single video offers valuable sewing content. To be able to produce the content, each video requires numerous and costly material (machines, patterns, fabric, cameras..) and Human (my time) Resources. If you feel I should be investing on my channel with no way to recover partial costs and that I should be working for free, then maybe my channel is not for you. My channel is my job. Ads are skippable and I offer ad free viewing on my patreon page.
