⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What has your growth been like since you’ve planted them? I planted a long row last October 2022 in zone 9a and the growth was around 1’. They are supposed to be slower the first year. Also, I ordered mine online so they were tall twigs since they were surely propagated from branches m, versus yours that look more like actual trees. ⭐️Advice to all: purchase from nurseries or big box stores if you can, most online are just propagated twigs and will take years to widen and fill out. Mine were shipped bent over and I had to stake the curved twigs.
Thank you for this video. I recently planted 11 North Pole arborvitaes for my much needed privacy fence, but now I'm regretting it. I have heavy deer traffic so I'm going to have to wrap and protect them over the winter out of fear they'll destroy them. After watching this video I just ordered 10 of these American Pillars and can't wait to plant them. Still deciding if I should plant them in addition to the current North Poles I have or just replace the North Poles with these to avoid the hassle every winter of protecting them
Thank you for the time invested with this charming and educational video. It further reinforces our decision on planting a few for privacy! Unfortunately we don't have a little helper and will have to manage with the luck of mother nature 🌲
This video couldn’t have come at a perfect time! I’m also in NJ (CA transplant) and attempting a similar project w/Arborvitae. 🌲 Thank you so much for your knowledge & advice! ❤ PS - can’t wait to see how your woodland garden comes together! 🥰
@@ydoyougarden can you post at least a picture of how your hedge is looking now so we can see how things have progressed over the last couple of years please?
Love the American pillar. I have 80 Giants on my property in Central Maryland. Sent this video to mother- in-law for her property which is more compact. Biggest issue I had was bucks rubbing antlers on small stages of trees. They nibble on them a little during rough winters, but only because they're over populated and desperately need food.
You’ve inspired me to start mulling over a design to screen our neighbors’ house. We like them but man, their dining room window looks directly across the meadow to our driveway. I don’t think they can help but gaze in our direction, and ditto for us.
Thank you Yuliya, now I know the difference, I will definitely get a couple of Pillar Arborvitaes. You certainly got your workout digging and planting those, they look beautiful!
Those look so pretty. Here in Minnesota, people wrap their arbs with burlap. Between deer and snow, it protects them. My favorite tool is my cordless reciprocating saw. I have removed so many tree roots that way. Rocky situation may not work so well. I have sandy soil.
What a great idea! Yesterday I was dying with all the darn roots when attempting to plant grass where I removed 8 feet of ivy. I mean, where I paid some people to remove 8ft x 70ft of ivy that was taking over my yard.
@@CavalierConfessional Nice thing about the reciprocating saw over chainsaw is it's easy to replace old, dull blades. I use the nearly dull ones for when I know I'll be plunging it into the dirt...a no no for chainsaws. This year, I bought an auger and a cement mixer drill. I plan to do some deep digging for various projects...and strengthen my upper arms. That's heavy!
Hello, I am from Toronto, Canada and really like your video, thank you. I planted 12 American pillars last year in my backyard and I watered them by hand every other day. Somehow some of them are still browning. The gardener from where I bought them told me that the American pillars do not like wet feet so do not overwater them. So I left them unwatered for 4 days but more trees look stressed. I stuck my finger into the soil and felt that it is still moist. So I am now confused whether the browning is caused by overwatering or under watering or just too much hot sun facing the line of trees. We get whole day of sun and can get quite hot between noon till 4:00pm in the afternoon. Really appreciate if you can advise me on this.
Oh Yuliya 😂. I had to laugh when you showed your digging on fast speed. I couldn’t tell that you had a pick ax in your hands and I thought you were taking the shovel and trying to kill some wild pest in the hole😂🤣🤪. You worked so hard and are inspirational in your designs. You also give good information about the plants that you are highlighting. Thanks.
This past winter 22/23 the rabbits totally destroyed mine. I had a whole hedge and they were 4 years old. I had them fenced in to keep all critters out. Snow got deep and the rabbits could walk right over my fence....and they must have been hungry. Rabbits did eat them down to nothing and they were about 4 ft tall. I used same reasoning as Yuliya when choosing this variety. But I will not plant them again. So heartbroken. They were the pride and joys of my garden! A full hedge, just gone 😢😭
I don’t have fence and have deer in my woody backyard, deer have not touch my Pillar arborvitae at all. Growth rate is insane, I got the 14 gallon size, because I want privacy so bad, in one year it has reached over 15 feet tall now, it was about 7 feet when planted last spring at May. Georgia US Vicky
I love your videos. So much helpful information. I would like to plant wisteria by my deck, but I heard that it can damaged my deck. What do you think? Any other recommendations. I saw in you other video recommendations for cup and the saucer vine annuals. It can be also great idea, I think.
Hello I have some American pillar that are newly planted and a few are growing with what looks like 2 main trunks. Would you leave the tree to grow like this or trim them so they only have one main trunk? Thanks for the video and all the info

Good tips, thinking about the backside when planting and knowing their roots are not aggresive. How do you deal with pets urine? My sister planted small 3'-4' fruit trees and the male dog just goes aroung irritating! Could you do a video on this topic. Thanks Yuliya
To everyone, all those red potted evergreens at the big box stores will be half off the day after Christmas or even before. If you buy a bunch, you can probably get an even better deal.

Where did you buy yours from? I would like to buy them but no one has them, Home depot, Lowe’s, Menards and plant nurseries don’t have these American arborvitae
We have had great luck with "Fast Growing Trees" online for shrubs and perennials for our flower beds. We are ordering 20 (two "10 Packs") American Pillar Arborvitae as soon as I have the planting area cleared for them. The warranty and customer service are great. No, I am not a paid for my endorsement.🙂
Hi Yuliya. Where did you get your arbor? I really like it and am looking for something similar. Do you like yours? Thanks for the video! I didn't know about the American Pillar arb.
Thanks for sharing with us this project! I was wondering what other evergreen tree can replace our struggling green emerald arborvitae. American Pillar arborvitae would probably be a good choice for us too besides it's hight. What do you think about Junior Green Giant arborvitae?
Hi Yulia, i just bought 10 emerald green arborvitae from Home Depot and plan on making a separation hedge through my garden to divide a large flowerbed from my vegetable garden . I don’t have a fence to guide me when planting and I’m a bit worried about getting the trees in a straight line , any suggestions?
Use a wooden tomato stake and string to create a line as a guide. Same concept as when a fence is installed. Measure off the string for all of the trees

It's an issue. The two spots he prefers is the boxwood hedge and the lawn. I fence the boxwoods and water the lawn a bit extra to wash down the urine.
Thuja occidentalis makes a great hedge.Never really appreciated it until seeing you using it.
Are there updated pics of these trees? I am looking to get these trees because it is similar to emerald green.
