So many people out in the world trying to ruin everyone’s fun in the name of “I’m just looking out for you” or “I’m just trying to help” no, that’s a lie, stop trying to pretty up the fact that you’re a dream stealing fun pooper!
Merry Christmas, be happy, if you can’t, at least let other people be happy! 🎄🤶 🎅 ✨

I was at Quartzsite last January and it was a great experience. I met a lot of nice people, the town was actually better than I expected (a few more stores, etc), and it really isn't that big of a deal to drive a bit for bigger stores. However, it isn't Disneyland, you are living in the desert using a bucket or pit toilet and you have to be careful with water. I would definitely go again.

Quartzsite reminds me of the little town that I was raised in actually it was the smaller town than quartzsite when I was there as a kid I think my town only had like 1300 people in it. We had a small grocery store in town and a little corner store uptown but that was it you had to go out of town if you wanted anything else

I've been doing the full time vanlife thing for five years now. You are correct. RVing takes up the whole socio economic spectrum. From very wealthy to people who are a short step away from sleeping under a bridge. It is just life I guess. Aside from weed have I never seen people use harder drugs but I'm sure it is out there. Also during the winter the RV community descends on southern AZ ,so we are kind of corralled into a fairly small space and then socio issues can be a bit more "compressed". For the most part these are great people.

Nice assessment. Between the location (on a major thoroughfare), and the sheer number of people who descend on the town in the winter, you’re bound to get some people who aren’t your style. But they do tend to cluster in groups and locations. As Bob Wells says, if you find you don’t like your neighbors, just turn the key and drive to a different spot where the people are more to your liking.

This year was my first year visiting Quartzsite. I was just getting a feel for the place, learning how to get a pass, where things were at, what I need to bring, so I only stayed a couple of weeks. Anyways I was in La Posa South and one night around 11pm some guy walks in my campsite asking if I have any drugs or meth to sell him lol. So must have been the same guy before he got his jaw relocation. Other than that it was pretty chill and I will probably head back early Jan or try again next year.

I boondocked in Quartzite in the 1970s and 1980s and it was so wonderful, nice clean people, big rigs, wonderful community. Now I pop over now and then and it's scary there with the dirty, drugged out campers. Don't forget it's close to Mexico, too and a great place for drug runners to make a safe stop. I wonder how many RVers are missing in the desert so others can hide or drive off in their rig.

From both experience and my siblings/relatives that are Truckers: all major trucking routes and many secondary routes have all the "Ills" drug and human trafficking available. Common knowledge, but that shouldn't be a singular criticism to downplay any region as a not so great place. Especially when an area is primarily a transient community.

These days every place is a drug den if you look for it. Even if I see it I mostly think it's not my business. That being said, it's possible there might be more sex offenders in the community because it is very difficult for them to get housing. If your hackles go up when meeting someone pay attention to that. There are people using trends in popular culture that are being used by some bad people to illicit the sympathy response. Some of those people are posers. It's still good to help people just don't be a fixer.

Heading down in a few days for my sixth year of four months at Q, in the LTVA-LPS. If you stay on BLM land, you have to buy a permit, and I think this keeps most of the poor transients out. I've never encountered druggies there. Heck, everyone seems to go to bed at dusk, sober and happy. If you go into town - right there, as you say, along the freeway - you'll see a few poor wanderers nodding off. But not many more than I see in Minnesota.
