What is the root base like? Thinking about planting one in the front yard close to the driveway for shade.
Hello @gwit247, thank you for watching and commenting! I would still keep the tree at least six or more feet away from the driveway. I personally have not experienced any form of invasive roots but I have read they can appear. We are also on flood irrigation, which really pushes the water, as well as the roots deeper into the ground. I hope this helps.
What species of Paulownua is this ?
Hello @yourhealthcareguru2592, thank you for watching and commenting! I am not sure the exact species of Paulownia tree this is. It was just listed as a Royal Empress tree when I purchased it at the local nursery. It does appear to be a sterile variety as it has not produced any seed pods, which helps narrow it down a little. They don’t give much shade right?
with a height of 50 plus feet and a width of 30-40, and leaves the size of your head, i'd say they give plenty of shade...and in record time since this is one of the worlds fastest growers...
Hello @alejandroortiz4510, thank you for watching and commenting! They actually give a lot of shade but only in the warmer months. They are deciduous so they loose their leaves during our winter months here in Phoenix. This is part of the reason that I think they are one of the best shade trees for Phoenix, if you're using them as a foundation to create a tropical food forest.
