Personally, I don't know how to feel about them continuing. I just got into the manga, but the fact that it is his close friend working on it is somewhat reassuring at the same time or not. The reason I say it's somewhat reinsuring is that he knows what the authors direction was, but since someone different is working on it, the art style is bound to change because each artist style is different even if they try to be the same.

Honestly, I consider everything past chapter 364 to be a tribute to Miura and a gift to the fans. It's too much to expect the same art quality, panel layout, dialogue and story detail that Miura would have given us. As far as we know Kouji Mori is not going to fill in the blanks so we can expect a faster paced story and some character arcs to be skimmed down or left out.

@@aldiascholarofthefirstsin1051 I totally agree. The way Griffith just swoops in and blows everything up just doesn't really make any sense. If he could do that, then why even feel the need to assemble his demonic army? Why not just outright nuke the Mansion of the Spirit Tree instead of sending his minions to burn it down? Why not vaporize the Thunder God? Why feel the need to hire an assassin in an attempt to take out Rickert?
Griffith is about manipulating people. When he has complete god powers, it just doesn't work nearly as well.
Also, Mori's characterization of Guts sucks. The dude isn't only his sword. He uses a sword because it's the best tool in most situations, but he's capable without it as well. I don't think Mori remembers his battles against Serpico, or how he uses bombs, knives, a hand canon, and more.

Tbh I think the new chapters and who we have making them are the best possible outcome we could ever get, second only to Miura still being here with us. It probably won't be perfect, but it would mostly be how he envisioned the ending of this amazing series with his best friend who knows the ending and all.
I totally get why people are upset or unsatisfied with the new chapters and even I myself am very VERY skeptical how faithful it will turn out, but I think we all should wait until the series closes to either say the continuation was or was not faithful to the series overall. As I already said, but whatever we get from Mori and everyone else working on Berserk will probably be the best we can get. Even if the series doesn't end amazingly or even flops, it'll be fine because we will always have that 70 to 80% to remember fondly. We all are strugglers so I'm sure we'll do just fine and make the best with what we get.

I think it will be faithful but we probably won't get details and character arcs for the side and supporting characters he would've included if he'd been working on it. If I had to guess it will be very faithful cliff notes. He probably did a lot of character development on the fly and it's not like they can develop all the side characters like he intended. Which is a shame because I was curious about what they'd do with some of Griffith's apostles like Irving.

I actually appreciate it as it gives us a rough draft of what Miura wanted for Berserk to end. I expect it not to be perfect in how it would feel with Miura gone and we wouldn’t get the full concept for the ending to Berserk, but to call it unfaithful or whatever else along those lines, is absolutely ludicrous.
It’s the literal interpretation that Miura wanted for Berserk so going off of that we can better understand close to what Miura wanted for Berserk to end as rather than getting ridiculous fan theories. I think something important we need to take into consideration is that this is probably what Miura would want. These are his beloved students and his best friend (whom he told his plans for the series to) who are continuing on in his memory. This is their way of honoring and mourning a man that they shared moments of grief and joy with, and picking apart their efforts at this point to me just kinda feels wrong in a way? Nothing wrong with being disappointed but we should give Mori and the team our full support.

My sentiments exactly on this sort of matter. I mean they have been nothing but respectful to Miura since his passing. I still cannot forget that they kept his death hidden publicly for 2 weeks to respect his loved ones and give them time to grieve their loss. That action alone shows where he stands amongst their intentions to his work also Mori didn’t have to do it either but he knew Miura well enough to know that Miura will want him to do it and that gave him reason enough to take on what many may claim to be an unnecessary burden but it’s a burden he faces all for his commitment to their friendship, even in death that is a high honor to behold

Here for finishing Berserk properly with the absolute respect and dignity it deserves.
As for the anime, I'm of the opinion that you do a couple OVAs to start off. One for the Black Swordsman Arc (it's good idc) and Lost Children. These are two arcs that serve really important foundations for Guts as an anti-hero but would also be low cost ventures that are purely to get fans excited for a new series.

I feel like, despite the pacing of recent chapters, and no matter how anyone feels of the content of what is happening, if nothing else, we should have a general idea of how Kentaro Miura had planned on finishing his story. It seems as though thats what we have and what we are going to get. I am kinda surprised that they didn't split off the series, into something like "Berserk GX" or something like that, or maybe even a series of light novels, or a proper anime adaptation that would eventually finish the final arc(s) of the story. I appreciate what Studio Gaga and Koji Mouri are doing though, I know they are probably trying their best and working their hardest attempting to complete Miura's masterpiece. If the continuation of the story is done out of love for the series, I fully respect that, however if it is done as a cash grab then it's sad to think that is how they would treat Miyura's legacy. Chapter 364 actually makes for a great end to the series IMO. Like GoT, Berserk is so big, complex and long-running that there will never be a fight scene epic enough to top it off. It’s almost poetic to me that everybody who reaches the end be able to head-cannon their own resolution based on what their take on the themes and conflicts has been. Spoilers below for anyone not up to 364...
Guts/ Griffith- will they fight? Does Guts even want to anymore? Would Griffith commend Guts as a true friend, having pursued his dream of restoring Casca all the way to Elfhelm? Would they discuss the ethics of Griffith’s empire and it’s potential to create a world far better than the war torn, oppressive one that came before, even at the cost of the OG band of the Hawk? Would they come to peace, disagree, or settle things with a duel?
Casca- how will she go about rebuilding her life and processing her trauma? She could become a pawn in Griffith’s game but she’s also finally ready to be a character again.
The rest of the party- would they settle in Elfhelm? Become some sort of magical missionaries or even mercenaries given the clear value the witches see in their outside experience, and the need of magical monster hunting all over the world? Will Serpico finally get a life/ personality outside Farnese? Is Isidro going to get Jon Snowed by 20 annoyed witches?
Rickert- will the best lad ever catch a break?
Silat and co.- will they decide where they fit in the story?
Skull Knight- is kind of wrapped up what with the memories and the grave tbh, other than explicit confirmation of who he was which is basically either Gaiseric or irrelevant so matters very little. Will he ever conclusively kill/ die to Zodd? Presumably he will continue his quest to hunt...
The Godhand- Will that conflict ever end? CAN it even? More relevant for story purposes, will they intervene in Griffith’s second empire, given the OG Godhand emerged specifically because of Gaiseric’s empire? How would that work if Griffith is Griffith but also Femto? Would Griffith overthrow the rest to protect his dream? How would that affect...
Fantasia- is this going to last? Can humans and apostles work together to build a world? Is there maybe a key point in there that ‘do what thou will’ could totally include willingly making an integrated and mutually beneficial society? Can the world be made safe from fantasy monsters or will it be reverted to an original reality/ astral realm type arrangement by whatever goes down with the Godhand?
The Dragonslayer- now that there’s at least one honest to goodness dragon on the loose, will it ever actually slay one?
I could see fifteen different fans having fifteen different versions of how they think it would go, or should go, and that’s kind of beautiful to me. Without ‘word of God’ authority from Miura, some people will inevitably be dissatisfied with whatever comes after him, especially if it is underwhelming, rushed, inconsistent or fails to hold up key plot points or themes. I doubt I’ll be able to resist reading onwards but for my own personal satisfaction it will likely end up like Star Wars outside the original trilogy, Evangelion outside the original series or Silent Hill outside 1-4; interesting, valuable, worthwhile, entertaining, but not, to me, hard canon. Even if it’s objectively canon, the great thing about art is that it affects us and we’re all entitled to experience and rationalise that in our own authentic way, and Berserk is undoubtedly art and Miura an artist in every sense of the word.

I don’t think that makes it perfect at all. After everything that has happened I would like a confirmed happy ending, not some ambiguous “Will it be happy or won’t it” ending. Griffith's whole arc is that of a madman with a god complex. Honestly, I expect him to end up like Ganishka: reaching for the stars, and losing everything.
After all, Ganishka tried to go against the Godhand, too. And we all know how that went for him.
Griffith is wrong to think he's unique, or special. He's so consumed with ambition he's going to destroy himself in the process. And when that happens, Guts will be there to destroy what's left of his former comrade.
Of course, there were other fifth members before Femto.
Hell, the Godhand must've met hundreds of other "chosen ones" before. Eventually, Griffith will learn his place the hard way. And it'll be spectacular.

I think you can make a near perfect 90 minute movie or a near perfect 300 page novel. But with longer lengths it makes sense to cognitively split art into pieces and rate them separately. I am fine with a creator who can create some work at a 9/10 and others of much lesser quality. I think expecting constant 9/10 leads to madness and hatred and ultimately less good art (GRRM, Rothfuss, etc.).

I think the new Berserk chapters more than ever justify why Berserk should get an anime adaptation. An honest-to-God, glorious, grade A adaptation.
It could be used to show as much of the series as possible (I understand some things *might* be a bit spicy for a modern adaptation, while other things might be slightly altered to work better for an anime) while these chapters are continuing. The new chapters could be expanded upon without feeling like fluff is being added (i.e. show the Guts vs. Zodd fight with more clarity, show Elfheim sinking in all it's glory, make some random mention that Falconia's expanded now to the seas, and have built a port sometime in between when it's established and when Griffith arrives with Casca), as well as maintaining a more consistent art style (i.e. Zodd). That's my two cents on the manner.
Likely won't happen (and the BS countdown is made me less reassured and more worried, though I'm still cautiously optimistic) but a man can dream

This is going to anger the fans, but the earlier manga feels like earlier GoT seasons. The later volumes feel like a different manga altogether, with a lot of superpowers and plot armor for the plucky comrades. There was a type of mortality in the early arcs, with Guts losing his eye, arm, comrades, Casca losing her sanity, etc. In the later volumes, Guts is nigh invincible, magic protects everyone, and even sanity can be restored. Even the death of an ancillary character is alive in dreams and such to help guide with her magic. It's getting to be that I just really thumb through the action in later pages, because I just know there are no stakes: no one's going to be harmed, magic will magic them all into victory.

I feel like its a blessing that a group of people decided to not let Berserk fall into the "brutally unfinished amazing stories" pit.
Berserk, like any story, wasnt fully perfect, it made its quirks and its charm. Miruas own sense of details, drawing wise or character wise, can never be reproduced or continued as if he never passed.
The team working on making sure Berserk actually sees its end, with what material ans traces Mirua left, is a chance. Its up to everyone to either just see it as a nice tribute, an actual precise rendering of Miruas plans, or other things.
I personally choose to be open to anything that the team is and will work on regarding the final parts of Berserk. Its rare to see mangas keep going after the creator dies or stops for any reason, if not impossible.
Knowing how Mirua wanted to reach the end of the story....To know Berserk will be able to rest with its creator as a finished story... I'll take that.

It can never be the same. Only Miura was capable of filling all of the small details and give proper depth to all of his characters. Still, they're doing a very good job and so far the goal here is to finish the story, and Kouji Mori knows the ending, that is at least clear. So while not exactly accurate to how Miura would've wanted to portray the last part of his manga, at the very least we'll get the ending that he more or less intended for the characters. A Future anime adaptation - hopefully by a capable studio - will have to expand that last part of the manga and give it more depth on screen based on their own creative abilities and understanding.

I really want to see how Sonia will develop as a character. While she's the most hatest character, i can relate a lot with her. I have been in her place before. In my teens was hated, i was simping about a specific person a lot and i was an idiot too, but also i had her innocence, her dumb ambitious mind and i was always smiling despite some bad circumstances (according to my old teachers). But those characteristics can be a double-edged sword, depending on who you are messing with. If you are messing with a person that respects you based of who you are, then you will be victorious, but if you mess up with a person that never cared about you despite opening your heart to gim/her for such a long time, then you will get mentally exhausted. Doesn't sound serious for a regular adult, but for a teen-young adult (especially for a teen), it might affect them in the future stages of life, or even forever without the proper guidance. Sonia trusts Griffith a lot, and by bringing Casca, she might feel betrayed because she showed the most heart and soul to Griffith, and it might get worse because of Irvine. I personally hope not. She deserves better.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter what the page count will be, they will do what is necessary to get to the ending that Miura initially had in mind, even if it means taking some liberties with the story or speeding through it. Mori said this before in the interview about how he'll tell the rest of the story, he only knows the grand lines of what is going to happen, because that's what Miura told him. He's not going to go into the small details that only Miura knew and cared about, he's not going to make up entire chuncks of inner dialogue because that's not what he was told, just the grand scheme of things. People need to get that straight before they start complaining that things are going too fast, or there's not enough inner monologue, that shit was privy to Miura and Miura only. And now more than ever, if you don't like the way things are , or just feel it's not authentic anymore, then do yourself a favor and stop reading it. It's really that simple.

I can say that I am appreciative of how they’re treating Berserk by giving it the much needed glamorization and attention it desperately needed in its existence since it was created in 1989.
I mean I know people are always going to criticize over petty gripes like animation and it’s not Kentaro Miura and such but honestly.
They have been utterly respectful to Miura and what he would have wanted.
Heck when he passed away they didn’t reveal it until 2 weeks after the fact in order to give Miura’s closest loved ones time to grieve and not make it a spectacle as well as arduously making a decision on what to do with his creation after his passing.
Koji Mori really did go way over his head despite only able to recollect a rough draft of what Miura personally told him about the ending he had planned since they are both mangakas that influenced and helped each other to grow creatively as well as help stem success in their lives through their hard work and efforts.
Miura is gone which really is a price that we all suffered from and really how they are giving it such acclaim all in honor of Miura really shows his deep impact on the industry and how he was in such high regards to the studio and more.
I will take it all as from a respective standpoint. They have been honoring Miura enough with the attention given to Berserk and really I enjoy what I have seen from it. Although I definitely cannot say what I would’ve expected for Berserk to end.
I can appreciate close insights from Miura’s lifelong best friend as well as his great respect in the industry to still go strong after his untimely death.

Guts focusing solely on his sword instead of not immediately lamenting that Casca is out of his reach us absurd. This isn't what Guts would do simple as that, and I'd wish they would be more upfront as to the information they know because I'm sure they are added their own garbage as they see fit to fill in the blank spaces. That’s why he says, it was all for nothing. He dedicated his life to protecting casca, something that he couldn’t do. It was all for nothing.
Also, we have been told repeatedly that casca is the reason he swings his sword. Hence, he can’t even pick up the sword now cause she is gone. She was his whole reason for living.

@@scottgimple8107 Basically what I'm saying is the way Mori is writing is stupid, Miura would have portrayed more nuances related to the whole sword thing, his sword is a huge aspect of his identity and his character it isn't even worth arguing but since Casca was taken he hasn't once directly mentioned or thought about Casca but he's just thinking about his sword and the sword directly because it failed him. to me I think he'd be more upset about himself and his own abilities and not just the sword. Yes he swings his sword for Casca and she is his driving force it's a point that's stressed throughout the series and I don't need you to tell me that, my meaning is he's having memories of random moments of the sword and none of them includes him protecting Casca either it's just random battles like Rosine that don't involve Casca wouldn't he he thinking about Casca in this moment?, Mori is basically simplifying the character and making him this caricature and he's been past this stage of his life for a while, him saying he could only rely and believe only in his sword and yet he's been relying on his friends and companions for volumes, the entire point was the journey of Guts learning to open up and trust others again, But yes the dragon slayer he could always rely on it in battle it's like an extension of himself but it's just worded strangely and it's clumsy simplified dialogue and a real Berserk fan can spot it.

@@NekoEnforceryour mistaking subtly for simplicity. He is thinking about casca, just indirectly. (And also directly when he says it was all for nothing). Literally the reason he is having this mental breakdown is because casca is gone. They r focusing on the sword, yes, but again, it ties into everything we need to know about guts mental state surrounding casca now that she is gone.

@@scottgimple8107 we'll see how they continue to portray this depressed Guts and I hope they actually make it interesting because we have seen Guts at low points but this characterisation of Guts is new and having another writer take it on my why it's noticeably wonky to me

Fans of Beserk should consider themselves lucky that Beserk will get a conclusion at all. Duranki, another series worked on by Kentaro Miura will never have a chance to shine, cause fans thought it would get in the way of finishing Beserk.

House of the Dragon was really good, extremely well written, it did almost feel like the old GoT with much more and still well spent budget.
As for your last question: if Miura hadn't left any instructions, I would have been against any kind of continuation, but when I read about Kouji Mori I was so glad the series would be back and I could see the story unfold, bearing in mind it's not exactly like Miura would have made it. The few chapters we got are absolutely living up to the expectations, the artstyle gets visibly better for each character that comes out and the turn the story took is extremely interesting. If they gloss over sone stuff rather than inserting important elements Miura didn't talk about it's perfectly fine and it was predictable

This video was able to put in words my thoughts exactly. In my opinion, Berserk poetically died with Miura.

100% agree, but that janky walk in Bonfire of Dreams was a janky walk and I’ll not be convinced otherwise 😂.
