So this video in part was inspired by a recent interview of the SF6 developers by VG247(link in vid description). The SF6 devs have some interesting things to say about guest characters as a whole with Terry and Mai showing up in SF6, and I kinda wanna add my own 2 cents to the whole Guest Character discussion, since as a NRS fan ive been in the guest character wars a lot longer than most of yall lol. Anyways vid the vid a watch, like if ya liked it and enjoy!
I feel like guest characters in SF6 would be a lot less controversial if the fighter passes weren't only four characters. While I can't deny that the fighters on the fighter passes have been incredibly high quality, only having TWO street fighter characters added to the game for a whole year is a pretty damn tough pill to swallow. I personally wanted Q, Hakan, Makoto, Menat or Gen in the game and while I'm down to wait a year because this crossover thing is a pretty neat novelty, I can't say I'd be wild about a 2025 Street Fighter pass that was only two Street Fighter characters, I probably wouldn't buy that.
Harada and Ono were thinking about an SF guest for the next Tekken Game in 2013, a year after SFxTekken release and 2 full years before Tekken 7's console release. Obviously, time passed between the idea was born, the actual pitch to both Capcom and Namco plus the licensing deals, and then the actual development of the character. Point being those kinds of deals take their sweet time. Even if Nakayama called Ed Boon tomorrow and both Capcom and WB went along with the idea, there is no way Sub Zero he would be out in 2025.
If you can find it, Harada had a great tweet in response to a fan asking for Bloody Roar guest characters that went into the behind the scenes process of adding guest characters. It was really insightful.
@@sigurdtheblueyeah, even Harada had said he was getting so many requests for a Bloody Roar rep. But TL;DR, there needs to be beneficial to both parties(the company making the game, and the company lending the character) as opposed to being “cool”
3:23. Im sorry, but I can't help but laugh at the mental image that Mai and Terry are just at the gates of every game all the time trying to get in 😭😭😭
That's not realistic or reasonable. While on paper having a SF "Dream Match" with every character from the franchise returning is cool, it's just not possible, atleast with SF6. We now know that 4 characters per year will be the standard which is reasonable considering the amount of work that goes into each of them, at that rate to get every character Capcom would have to support and add DLC to this game for the next 15 years and that's without any new characters or guests. Considering that the average lifespan of an SF game is 6 years it's not happening.
I just want Sagat. I know he's not too popular, but i trained my ass off with that character in SF5 so Id like to continue, but for now Lily and Marisa are great for me. Still I would love to see him have a conclusion to his redemption arch in story.
In case of SF6 the guest character thing collides with fact that they confirmed that 4 characters a season is now the standard for them, I feel like May would have felt much more like a great bonus if it would have been 5 characters. Guest characters + less characters per season is what makes it sting more.
Based on your snk interview, I'm guessing SF will have a KoF tie in and maybe a guest character in KoF and CtoW? Maybe a cool new world tour area where you fight random people with names and moves similar to KoF characters?
well it'd be nice but who knows. I got nothing past what they told me in that interview. Its certainly time everyone else paid SNK back though. They've been using their characters and SNK got nothing in return, time to cash in the debts.
I seem to be in the minority that thinks this isn't great. Guest characters are cool, but not when there are only 4 characters in the season pass. If it were 4 SF characters PLUS 2 guests, I'd be all for it.
@@punkypony5165 bruh really? you aint even tryna hide it lmao everyone gets hard to something ig me personally i think liu kang would make the most sense as hes kinda similar to a shoto? for his fireball it would be front quarter circle and punch just like a hadoken front quarter circle kick would be his flying dragon kick and then back quarter circle kick would be bicycle kicks and then his crouching heavy punch would be the classic mk uppercut they could also make a lot of target combos based on his strings in mk1
If Sub-Zero truly ever becomes a thing in SF6, the first person to say they'd rather have some nobody third strike character over sub-zero will be cast into the phantom zone.
@@akl2512you people are insufferable, did you know that? I think you should know that. Every single time any non-American company does something you don’t like, be it they feature a character that you don’t like, they start talking about progressive themes, or, god forbid, have one of their female characters wear actual pants for once, you people are always like „Oh, the east has fallen! The west/‚wokeness‘ has ruined my favorite plaything yet again!“ I mean, Jesus Christ! Look inwards for once! There is no grand conspiracy at play here and you know it! You’re just too much of a weasely little coward to actually admit that!
Too many false equivalencies in this video. Hakan has nowhere near the same level of demand as the likes of Makoto or C. Viper. And it's kind of pointless to talk about which DLC would make more money without any hard numbers or official data at all to back it up.
Also sales aren't everything. They'll turn this game into Fortnite because that's what makes money but what will be left would be a shell of what it was.
@@rooflemonger lmao I’d love to see Anna vs Chun or something like that to branch off from her sister bc all her storylines have always had something to do with her sister
The thing about Guest characters in SF can be a double edge sword, remember Akuma in Tekken 7 that was broken in all T7 lifespan, imagine now Terry&Mai be broken and unbalanced, we hope Capcom dont make Bandai mistake.
I don’t care for guest characters in any game that isn’t a full on crossover fighter or smash type. I’d always prefer more characters from that game in my game but that’s clearly not how the industry or majority feel so I’ll just deal with it. Maybe Season 3 will have characters I want so see you next year. People always pull the oh well guest character is better than (insert worst character in the franchise) argument but that completely ignores all the good characters left out. If you want to use MK1 as a example there are zero special forces or black dragon characters in the game but hey 4 more guest characters I guess. 2 street fighter characters a year just feels awful to me.
SNK characters fit at least, that's the only reason I'm fine with two of them for a year of DLC. All these other suggestions tho? Like 6 really brought me back to SF and it's characters and I don't want it to just turn to a platform like MK did. They just need to be smart with the guest characters and at least have ones that somewhat fit.
I get the appeal of guest characters, I got a few I’d love to see, imagine if they somehow got a Marvel character in Street fighter? But it’s also hard not to feel bad for fans who have been waiting a long time for their favorite to return, especially if they weren’t in SFV. If you love Makoto and haven’t played her or anything close to her style in over 10 years, seeing Sub Zero or Kazuya, or Sol Badguy, in next years pass over her probably won’t make you feel better.
I agree that “guests generate interest,” but I don’t think that does much for the game overall. Everybody who cares about Terry or Mai probably already bought SF6. I don’t know if I’d say Terry and Mai “sold season 3.” I bought season 2 for Bison, and a lot of others probably would have bought season 2 regardless of who was in it. Just speaking for myself here, but Terry in SF6 just lessens my desire to buy CotW. If I can already play him in 6, and the REV system is basically another Drive system, idk why I’d bother. Especially with so many fighting games coming out.
def not the case, mai and terry will sell more copies by existing than any already existing SF character. There's a reason why MK does this year over year time after time. It works.
True, the DLC guest characters sell. But if you look at MK fans reception of the latest DLC and the leaks for the current one. There’s many that think 50% DLC guest characters is too much. You will attract many DC fans and fans of those series with homelander, omni man and peacemaker, but alienate your own fanbase. Honestly there’s pros and cons to this guest character, it really comes down to balancing it so SF doesn’t turn into the next smash brothers.
Crossovers ruin the stylistic integrity of a game imo. Look at fortnite. I think terry and mai are okay because if you told a non sf fan they were from sf they would believe you, but i dont want kratos or mk characters.
I completely agree, fatal fury and kof characters are welcome but anything else like tekken and mk or god forbid non-fighting game characters would just completely ruin it for me
“This is about getting more people into fighting games” oh sure bro. Thank god we’re shining a light on smaller fighting game darlings like Mortal Kombat: A franchise that sells a billion copies every release yet mysteriously can’t seem to get many entrants at EVO for the first year of their latest mega successful game. Then again, Under Nights is very tough competition I can’t blame em.
I really hate guest characters, they take up slots and they won't appear again so giving a shit for them would be useless. And yes, I agree this is a can of worms, an mk9 getting delisted situation may happen. Also, this won't reach new players into fighting games, it's more like gonna cannibalise other playerbases more than anything.
Really should be either more characters a season or just 1 guest if this is a repeating thing. I am excited for the remaining characters this season but at least story wise wouldn’t it make sense to bring the actual new generation that we started with in sf3 adding to Luke, Lilly, AKI, Marisa and the rest of newer/younger characters
I hate the fact that I’m not in the same mind as most people here in the comments. I’m absolutely not thrilled about this whole guest character thing, and it sucks to see your beloved franchise heading in a direction you don’t like. I absolutely agree that guest characters makes people talk and creates interest, which is an amazing thing. However it will come at the cost of the roster size in terms of street fighter characters, which does upset a notable amount of fans including me. In the end, you can’t make everyone happy, But if it’s what’s best for the game and franchise, I think it’s great, even is I would prefer street fighter without too many guest characters.
Same. I want to see Street Fighter characters revamped with modern Capcom's design Look at Ed, in SFV no one liked his gameplay and even less people liked his appearance as a generic ass Psycho user. Now in 6 even though he is far from the best character but he is very popular due to how well designed he is. I'm way more hyped for what can they do with Elena or potentially Vega (another character who was badly designed in V) than Terry or Mai's design which has to be somewhat faithful to KoF (not saying it's bad per se)
I'm really not a fan of guest characters in Street Fighter. One of the many reasons I love Street Fighter is that it is a self contained universe with its own characters. I feel like so many games and movies feel the need to have crossovers and multiverses and I just want a pure game with its own characters and world.
no matter what you do, people will always cry for a character that isn't already in the game. There is no winning on that front so why even try. You add makoto, people cry no sean. You add sean, where is viper? Add viper, where's sakura, etc etc. You will never, ever make everyone happy so don't try, do whats best for the actual game.
@@rooflemonger True but keeping the players happy keeps the game alive. I predict the salt of not having some OGs after enough time will take it's toll. On the flip side the people loving guest characters will be eating good, and those who don't care in particular are still winning. I think Mai and Terry are cool, but for S2 I'd do 3 SF 1 Guest
@@rooflemongerStill this isn’t the argument a large majority of actual street fighter players audibly sighed that TWO guest characters took season pass slots over their own universe. It genuinely started the discussion “I play street fighter to play street fighter”. This whole guest character project will only work if there’s obvious compensations such as a guarantee larger roster (like Tekken) or adding more slots to the season pass. This whole project is just jangling keys in front of people who probably (and I genuinely mean this some a large majority just said that’s cool and moved on) won’t even start up the car. SFV despite its woes still managed to remain experimental, SF6 is borderline selling out. I respect it the reasoning behind it but come on, Capcom is doing SNK much more of a favor here lol. VSav characters deserved a return MUCH more than any other cross over. Won’t even get started with Rival Schools, EX, etc.
@@yefimk Ed and Luke are amazing. No one complains if we get Makoto, C Viper or Sakura these are definitive favorites. This whole “no one is going to be happy” argument is so childish and just an appeal to futility. SFV’s roster was greatly accepted despite its patches of trying something different (Ed, Falke, Abigail). And I hope they continue to unveil new STREET FIGHTER characters like Alex, C Viper, Ed, Menat, G, Luke, Jamie, Kimberly, AKI while also exploring the wonderful worlds of Rival Schools, Final Fight, and even having unique spins like Zeku and Strider.
As long as it don't get too goofy like MK and Tekken 7, SNK and CAPCOM is far as we'll let it go without a fight, the core fans still haven't gotten a lot of the Capcom favorites. Mai and Terry were great picks
Calling Necro unrealistic when he destroy Dhalsim in the official polls TWICE now is uh... certainly a statement. Its hard to cheer for guest characters when we know we will only get 4 a year and characters that had to sit out their own franchises for 3 decades will have to wait much longer because of "brand recognition" because they dont wanna bother do a fantastic reinvention or a comeback like Deejay or ABA did? Not to mention it will make the existence of SF6 in future decades a fucking legal nightmare the more of that kinda egg they put in the same basket.
@@punkypony5165 The better option would be having them both in the same game cause its honestly a crime it hasn't happened yet. We've had ibuki face rolento, hugo face zangief, dudley face 'rog but we never had Necro meet Dhalsim like come the fuck on. To add to the injury they play NOTHING alike despite people insisting the similarity is what prevents em from co-existing.
Couldn't agree more with that statement. SF shouldn't suddenly switch tunes to brand recognition when they have so many interesting characters in the bank. It's honestly saddening to see the amount of "fans" clawing for the game to turn into fighting game Fortnite
@@rooflemonger In a counter argument, i feel like Necro and Effie would definitly be more appealing to a modern younger audiance ironically enough. Especially with their aesthetic and general themes in reflection to characters i see trending to younger folks nowadays. I've even had some mutuals compare Effie to some modern vtubers and a lot of people around me grew interested in the character once i shared more about his lore that wasn't exactly explored or had much space for in older arcade games and most of it came from official but outside material. To quote Marty McFly, i think the people at the time were not ready for such a duo of characters but generations down the line would appreciate them much more once they have their time to shine. Which i still firmly believe regardless of whether necro or effie makes it, should be given a shot as their story kinda ended on a cliffhanger and SF6 is set right after that in the timeline. There is also a common sentiment i saw around that perhaps Rudra was going to be Dhalsim's successor in a similar vain to lily and kimberly but they wanted to get all the world warrior togheter... despite the fact they dont fucking know what to do with Dhalsim narratively anymore in contrast to his apprenctice being much more interesting and fresh. But i think we are past the point where that would be plausible by now. Oh also i wanna add, its not because people recognize dhalsim that they'd play him. Most people i talk to who actually played both all agreed they prefered playing Necro so...
I feel there would be a lot of conflict if street fighters just had guest characters for all season cause there are so many fan favorites that are not in street fighter, so they can't just do that. Mortal Kombat characters in a game that is not about gore or brutalities just don't work. There are so many conflicts with having Mortal Kombat characters. Like hiw mk is banned in Japan, or how would mk characters fit in a game like this. Personally, I wouldn't want to see mk characters in this game. I like the idea of guest characters, but Terry and Mai were literally just for fun, and videos like this make it seem guest characters are mandatory which is why I was kind of worried in sf6 got guest characters. Harada, for example, gets bombarded with guest character requests like every day, like its mandatory. Guest characters should just be for fun, but not mandatory. You also have to be careful about which characters you choose to put in your game. I'm pretty sure the devs have to ask themselves like do these character fit the ratings of our game, and a bunch of other stuff. So yeah, guest characters should not be mandatory and mk characters should stay in mk. The only way I could see Mk characters in a sf game is if Mortal Kombat tries to increase the number of people playing their game worldwide, by tuning out blood and fatalities, but that probably might not happen since that would generally take away what makes Mortal kombat different from the rest of these fighting games. Not to mention mk1 is in a bad spot so there would probably be a lot of backlash including an mk character in sf6.
As far as future guests go, I'm thinking that Capcom will start with bringing back as many of their past crossover partners as possible (Namely Tekken & Marvel). Not sure what they'll do after that besides pulling from other fighting games, but I wouldn't be surprised if they dial it back to 1 guest per season rather than 2 (with Year 2 being the exception since Street Fighter & Fatal Fury are like next-door neighbors).
If they do add sub zero as a guest character I wonder how would they do world tour because would that mean tekken, street fighter, and mortal kombat is in the Same universe technically
MK1 introduce multiverse as part of their canon lore now, therefore if any guest from MK appear in SF, that mean that universe is just one of the many infinite multiverse within MK. After all, DC multiverse is also canon to MK
@@TheInfamousDope It is matter. That why MK and Tekken has the biggest sales. Is bullshit for bullshit people like you. I know for fact a lot of people love when fighting games has lore. Why do you think people got mad when Capcom describe their character as "function" in MVC before? People love fighting games character more than just their gameplay.
@@shawziiz5031 There is no constistency nor continuity between games dude. Stop being ignorant. The lore in Street Fighter and Tekken have been established in the 90s and never evolved since. The absurd lore in MK is never the same from one game to another and so on… The devs know most people will be happy if their fav characters are in the next game so that’s why they don’t bother creating good story mode anymore and prefer to simply reboot to always keep the plot easy to understand. New plot lines are just excuses to add new characters or bring fan favourites back from the dead but the main story NEVER EVOLVES. You casuals are just to d**b to see that. What makes a good fighting game are character designs and mechanics. Never heard nobody says « I bought this game for the story mode »
I can do without any more guest characters outside of SNK features for SF6. The story and format is beautiful and satisfying bc of its sticking to the lore…the more guests you put in without any logical reasoning & solely as cash grab, the more that uniqueness is broken and less interesting to enjoy. To note: I know of other fighting games & can care less about them. I only play Street Fighter and want as many SF characters in 6 as possible.
yeah im fine with terry because he looks like he could be in metro city, mai is a bit weird but still works. sub zero kazuya or even reina would look janky and out of place in metro city
Guest characters can be pretty cool, but there is a point where you can go too far with them, and I hope we don't reach it. I'd still rather see it restricted to characters who can fit in street fighter, for one. MK characters I think could fit, but for example, it'd be really weird to throw in Granblue characters.
I hate the Remy hate, as if they'd rip him straight out of SF3 and change nothing. They've shown they can make luke-warm characters awesome, like Ed, and there's no way he'd be less interesting than luke-warm Luke. I'd prefer innovation of past characters rather than easy hype picks. Unless they add Asura, in which case, then and only then, screw innovation.
I'm probably like 1 of 10 people who wants to know what the "lore" implications of Terry and Mai being in SF 6 because of how much of an emphasis there is about Story in World Tour - maybe a flight to a new hub of Southtown?
You're totally right when saying that MK guests in SF would break the internet. I am biased when saying this but I would be down for that 100%, same with the idea of each character pass' guests being themed after certain games. Sub-Zero vs. Ryu alone is a dream matchup as it is, but Sub-Zero vs. Terry/Mai in SF6 would be just as crazy to see.
I am a little mixed on the inclusion of Guest characters in SF6. On one hand, I am really looking forward to Terry and Mai and seeing how the SF team adapt them to the SF6 mechanics. But... on the other hand I think it is a bit early in the life of SF6, like if this was season 3 or season 4 I would be way more hyped. I feel like there are just too many fan favourites that could and maybe should be added before guest characters. With the current season pass, I think I would be more happy to have entirely SF characters(including a new one) in season 3, and then more guests in season 4 and then alternate it that way.
If you're 30+ (maybe younger too) and you like fighting games, the thought of MK vs SF certainly crossed your mind at some point. I clicked on this video faster than the speed of light LMAO
I’m bookmarking this post because I know it’s gonna age HORRIBLY because I remember this same talk when the MvC and cvs series started and look where we are now.
I feel like Street Fighters devs outright saying they'd be interested in having MK characters in SF should've been a bigger story. I'm just finding this story out now because of this video
I can really see Reina being in SF6. She seems to have a... "Juri vibe" with her fans and the amount of them. They did wavedash step/stance in SFxT wity the Mishima's and I think it would be really cool
@@Dasaltwarrior Whoever the character is who gets in SF6, needs to be absurdly overtuned and break the game. So SF players get a taste of what Akuma did to T7 🤣
The problem is that it means more of the multiverse trope which I'm kind of sick of at this point. Plus they usually have to ignore a characters contribution to the story like with Akuma. At least Terry and Mai fit in with Street Fighters urban combat style. I'm hoping for something more interesting than, 'and suddenly a portal appeared' to bring them into the cast.
If Sub Zero or Scorpion make it in, then this is automatically the mosf insane fighting game crossover of all time Like not only would SF and SNK be in, but the fact that MK crossed over into ANYTHING, especially a Japanese game, is flatout unprecedented
Sounds great! I like Scorpion, but if I had to choose between the two, I would vote for Sub-Zero. If they choose Scorpion, Birdie will kinda redundant and likely to have a smaller chance of being included which seems unfair to those who use him.
how to incorporate guest characters in world tour ( or how i hope they do it): a new arcade opens up in the city, called : the interdimensional arcade or something. each guest character or franchise gets their own cabinet, when u play/interact with them u get pulled into their world/game. where u can meet the mentors.
Fatal Fury was also developed by the OG Street Fighter devs so them crossing over again makes sense. Id really like to see more Rival Schools characters since we got Akira in SFV. 🥸👍
For the past month I've been joking about a Ninja Fighter 6 because before Mai showed up people were arguing that Kimberly took the (Bushin style) ninja slot from characters like Zeku, Guy, Maki, and even Ibuki. But bring on the ninja fighters. If being brought from a different franchise can make it happen, then bring it lmao Hell, DOA has ninja...
I came from Smash and one of the things that really disappointed me in Ultimate was that they just kept one-upping the third-party characters. I really hope that does not happen in this game because it might be enough for me to give up on the game.
I just fundamentally disagree with the argument that just because it sells it's good. You're sacrificing integrity for sales and once that door is open theres no closing it.
My top 5 Guest Characters for Street Fighter 6 are: - Felicia (Darkstalkers) - Johnny Cage (Mortal Kombat) - Jin Kazama (Tekken) - Jacky Bryant (Virtua Fighter) - Spider-Man (Marvel)
It's true that they generate interest but as a massive fighting game fan, it's not really exciting for me since my favourite characters are rarely the iconic favs of the series. Like I don't play Terry or Mai and I don't play Sub-Zero either, so it would be rare for me to even bother trying out a guest character since I already know I don't like their playstyle in the original games.
In general there’s no way to deny guests sell but I really want to see the sales on this season pass. I do not believe Terry and Mai sold more passes than Akuma alone. If they’d have put something dumb like Cloud or Tlou Joel in the game then yes but I really don’t have this belief that T&M are pulling in a new audience.
Ya Terry and Mai really do not have the same pull especially cuz we've gotten many crossovers with SNK before. Like the trailer isn't even viewed more than Ed's gameplay reveal, Ed.
As long as it sticks to fellow fighting games, I'm a fan, it spreads love to other FGC properties! I wanna see this community thrive, and I think having MK/Tekken/SnK/ArcSystemWorks characters in would do that perfectly! Bright future ahead.
I hate tone dissonance, so I usually hate guest characters, the reason why I never bother to buy a mk title is cause it is fill with crap movie characters that have nothing to do with the mk universe. Terry and Mai.... may work, they are from a almost twin franchise. But I am not happy about this, nor will be. I know I am not buying this characters.
@azdart Fully agree, at least Terry and Mai fit the aesthetic of SF. I'd rather there be no more guest characters but if they absolutely must have them they need to fit into Street Fighter seamlessly. If any characters made it in that didn't fit, I'd be genuinely disgusted, even if I like the character in their respective game. If they want crossovers make another crossover game.
@@punkypony5165 You guys have irrational fears. The first crossover content ever in sf and its another fighting game that Capcom has already crossover with and was made by the same creator as sf, it doesnt mean were getting Negan in SF.
Disney holds those keys and isn't playing ball. Otherwise, just take Magneto, Logan, and Jean (maybe Storm) and take them to a new crossover, like ArcSys vs. Capcom
The thing is Makoto and C Viper are extremely expected as opposed to Hakan. Along with SF6 4 character season passes? Financial decisions whatever, world conversation sure, but completely ignoring an already enriched universe blows my mind. I guess I’m pro-universe/anti guests characters. Two guests in one pass?
I like guest characters in fighting games when they're done well, but there are a number of things that do turn me off to the concept. Putting guests in the base roster is a no-no for me, as it does actively inhibit a game's ability to sell itself and its world/characters. I know DLC didn't exist during its heyday, but basing front-end sales on guests is one of the things that killed Soul Calibur, especially when the guests were duds like in Soul Calibur IV. Keep guests to DLC so that the player base can either buy or ignore them as they so choose. Crossovers should have some sort of root connection with what they're crossing over with. It was great that Hellboy and the Ninja Turtles were in Injustice 2 because those characters and the DC heroes are all comic book characters. Similarly, fighting games should cross over with other fighting game characters, which is one of the reasons why I think Terry and Mai in Street Fighter works so well. As a child of the '90s, I'd be psyched to see Sub Zero (or Sonya Blade, Liu Kang or whomever from MK) in SF, too. On the other hand, guests being out-of-sync with the game they're in tends to take me out of it. I don't understand why characters like Omni-Man, Homelander, Alien, Predator, Spawn, etc. are all crossing over with Mortal Kombat (aside from crass, cross-promotional marketing concerns, that is). While it can be pretty fun playing with some of these toys, that's what it feels like: mashing action figures together instead of celebrating a shared medium or history. It just seems weird and incongruous, but, per my point above, at least they were DLC so they could be ignored if people wanted. At the end of the day, I'm still a huge proponent of guest characters and understand that, at the end of the day, that they're playable marketing material: I just don't like it when that's all there is to it.
I've had this argument with a lot of people in the MK community before. There's 4 acceptable guest characters in the entire series right now. Freddy Jason Predator Spawn The rest are just forced and awful. Those 4 at least somewhat fit into the games aesthetic and world despite being from other properties.
Love Rooflemonger's stuff, but I heavily disagree with this. It was a gut punch for me to see that guest characters, that I have no interest in, had become 50 percent of the Season 2 pass. SF has always been a pretty pure experience and I loved that it was free from the guest character plague of other games. I don't play SNK games. I really don't care about Mai and Terry. If they put in Tekken or Guilty Gear characters I would have even less of a connection. I think this will backfire in the end. Look how stale MK has become, it gets old. First time a guest character came in it was exciting and new, but over time it cheapens the legacy of your game. Short term vision over long term success.
I think I wouldn't mind guests if it was only one per pass & they were included in every other season (ex. S2 guest, S3 all SF chars, S4 guest etc.) Having 2 guest characters in a 4 character pass for $30 kinda sucks, especially when we haven't had any Alpha or SF3 newcomer representation for a whole year, and only one SF4 returning character. Hope they retain only FG guests though & not something random, Negan was a fun but weird pick for Tekken 7.
I think guest characters from other games become the wild cards. Brings unexpected factors back into the game which I think builds excitement more than a more traditional character would.
Im just gonna say i just hope street fighter donts become mortal kombat with all those guess characters from other franchises it only wastes slots for very good characters from street fighter.
Street Fighter have canonically met Terry & co. before so it makes sense they might meet again Hakan's pretty neat; I think they should have a few "weird" characters
I feel like Liu Kang and Kitana as guest in SF6 will be far better than Subby or Scorpy. We got Terry and Mai, so make sense to add Liu Kang and Kitana from MK. After all, Liu Kang and Kitana is always seen as Ryu and Chun-Li counterpart
@@scottchaison1001 Nah, Subby and Scorpy will be far better in Guilty Gear universe. Heck, Scorpy will be badass in Soul Calibur instead. SF is a bit more grounded. Human Liu Kang and Kitana, or Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade fit more naturally in SF. Liu Kang and Kitana can easily be Ryu and Chun-Li rival while Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade will be Guile and Cammy rival. Johnny Cage can also rival Ken and Terry.
for sure sub and scorp first... but if they had a full 4 character nrs season pass...😅...I'm sure grown adults wouldn't throw a temper tantrum about that
I mentioned this on Twitter and ever since the Marvel Capcom collection announcement recently. I really want to see Cyclops and Rouge to be guest characters in SF6. it can make since since the whole Street Fighter vs Xmen game and MVC.
My main wish for if they are adding more guest characters is that they will fill archetypes that aren't in the game yet. Because I think that's still the biggest problem with game currently alot of people are missing their character.
I think guest characters would be easier for the diehards to accept if they were framed differently by the dev team. So Capcom sets the expectation that each DLC season is 4 characters, well this season has 4 SF characters + 1 or 2 guests. Then it feels like everyone wins. (Note: hyped for Terry + Mai, roster really needs more cool fighters.)
I personally don't mind guest characters in fighting games unless the whole season of dlc characters is all guest characters, then I have a bit of an issue, but if Street Fighter sticks with this format of two guest characters and two Street Fighter characters then I'm okay with it.
I think one guest character per season would be a great way to get people into fighting games while also allowing for more series regulars. However, if your goal is to reach people outside of fighting games, characters from other fighting games is not going to do that. We need to reach out to a wider pool. Like Noctis in Tekken 7 or any of the MK guests from movies. Maybe SF could pull the trigger on something like their Spy X Family event, get some anime fans in. Huge market.
I would be so happy to see Subzero in street fighter (or even better, Scorpion)… But I also hope that 1 MK character is the extent of it. Street Fighter has its own wonderful characters and the potential for great new ones like Aki, guests should be a sometimes thing.
Guests are definitely neat, but with an (understandably) low rate of characters I absolutely agree with people that the guests should be spaced out. Half of only the second season being guests might be a bit of a bad omen for getting fan favorites back.
Makes me think, maybe they'll continue this kind of split each season - so two new SF characters, and two guests from a franchise, like two MK/GG/Tekken/... characters

@@FranckyFox2468 I got nothing against Sub-Zero in SF, but it'd be a missed opportunity not to add all characters of the previous games.
That's crazy talk😂

In case of SF6 the guest character thing collides with fact that they confirmed that 4 characters a season is now the standard for them, I feel like May would have felt much more like a great bonus if it would have been 5 characters. Guest characters + less characters per season is what makes it sting more.
The only salt I have about guest characters are 2 slots taken up because percentage wise that is 50% of a battle pass.
There's over 15 very popular SF characters still waiting to get in the party.
Think the new FGC wave for DLC is on character per season
Based on your snk interview, I'm guessing SF will have a KoF tie in and maybe a guest character in KoF and CtoW? Maybe a cool new world tour area where you fight random people with names and moves similar to KoF characters?

Just don't give them short hops/running/max mode and we're fine.
Guest characters will always feel gimmicky to me...
Jack of all trades master of none
I'm fine with guest characters but if they're only going to do four characters in a season pass they should definitely keep it to one guest.
But not getting these characters wouldn't make Makto any more likely to be released.
But those fans will feel that way for ANY character that gets added that isn't the one they want. Guest characters are just an easy scapegoat.
I’ve been playing SF since 1992 and I’m ecstatic at the prospect of even more guest characters.
Shang Chi and Iron Fist in SF 6
As someone who has held out hope for Eagle returning some day, stuff like this means we’re less likely to see any such fringe cases return
Crossovers ruin the stylistic integrity of a game imo. Look at fortnite.

Im hoping that SNK & CAPCOM have a shared Street Fighter and KOF/Fatel Fury universe and they share characters with each other.
I wish that all the multi media slop was kept in SFV but I got Elena in a very fun game with a sane balancing team so I really cant compalin
In the end, you can’t make everyone happy,
But if it’s what’s best for the game and franchise, I think it’s great, even is I would prefer street fighter without too many guest characters.

I feel the same. I thought SF6 was going to be a Street Fighter game, not a crossover game.
Same. I want to see Street Fighter characters revamped with modern Capcom's design
Look at Ed, in SFV no one liked his gameplay and even less people liked his appearance as a generic ass Psycho user.
@TheObidane I could be wrong but I would expect most SF fans feel the same way.
I'm totally with you, if I wanted MK or tekken characters I'd just go and play those games, I do not care for MK at all so I don't want them in SF
I'm really not a fan of guest characters in Street Fighter. One of the many reasons I love Street Fighter is that it is a self contained universe with its own characters. I feel like so many games and movies feel the need to have crossovers and multiverses and I just want a pure game with its own characters and world.
Everyone doesn't win though. People want their OGs back
no matter what you do, people will always cry for a character that isn't already in the game.

This whole project is just jangling keys in front of people who probably (and I genuinely mean this some a large majority just said that’s cool and moved on) won’t even start up the car.

"everybody wins" with guest characters except people who actually play
As far as future guests go, I'm thinking that Capcom will start with bringing back as many of their past crossover partners as possible (Namely Tekken & Marvel). Not sure what they'll do after that besides pulling from other fighting games, but I wouldn't be surprised if they dial it back to 1 guest per season rather than 2 (with Year 2 being the exception since Street Fighter & Fatal Fury are like next-door neighbors).
If they do add sub zero as a guest character I wonder how would they do world tour because would that mean tekken, street fighter, and mortal kombat is in the Same universe technically

Well SF6's animations aren't that great. They're still way better than MK's though.
@@Oscar97o SF6 animations are the best I've ever seen in a 3D fighter, lol
Oh, whaddya know. Same hater I disagreed with in my other comment. L take
how to incorporate guest characters in world tour ( or how i hope they do it): a new arcade opens up in the city, called : the interdimensional arcade or something. each guest character or franchise gets their own cabinet, when u play/interact with them u get pulled into their world/game. where u can meet the mentors.
Fatal Fury was also developed by the OG Street Fighter devs so them crossing over again makes sense. Id really like to see more Rival Schools characters since we got Akira in SFV. 🥸👍
I will disappoint if they add sub zero but no Dudley or makoto, even sagat😢
The only non fighting game characters that would be cool would be Baki and Yujiro
For the past month I've been joking about a Ninja Fighter 6 because before Mai showed up people were arguing that Kimberly took the (Bushin style) ninja slot from characters like Zeku, Guy, Maki, and even Ibuki. But bring on the ninja fighters. If being brought from a different franchise can make it happen, then bring it lmao
Hell, DOA has ninja...
My top 5 Guest Characters for Street Fighter 6 are:
- Felicia (Darkstalkers)
- Johnny Cage (Mortal Kombat)
- Jin Kazama (Tekken)
- Jacky Bryant (Virtua Fighter)
- Spider-Man (Marvel)
It's true that they generate interest but as a massive fighting game fan, it's not really exciting for me since my favourite characters are rarely the iconic favs of the series. Like I don't play Terry or Mai and I don't play Sub-Zero either, so it would be rare for me to even bother trying out a guest character since I already know I don't like their playstyle in the original games.
Yo, You know what would be cool? Asura from Asura's Wrath as a guest character in SF6! That would be wild!
YES BRING ASURA BACK!
Fun fact capcom thought about putting Asura in SFIV but the game wasn’t popular enough so we got a skin for ryu instead
I really hope that sf6 doesn't get watered down with loads of guests and ruined like Mk.
MK is ruined because they monetized the game too hard
@@cryptocaesar8972Facts
Yeah guests definitely destroyed that franchise
Mk 9 and MK 11 had very good characters from another lore's , MK 1 looks like a joke.
I was most looking forward to brand new street fighter characters like aki. Always accepting Sakura back too.
Considering Capcom and Namco made it canon that Akuma knows the Mishima's, I fully expect to see Heihachi and Kazuya at the least in the future. XD
Basically how I feel. I don't like how sometimes guest characters can ruin the "immersion" of a fighting game.
Imagine an X-Men character announced at EVO, people will faint.
who, Wolverine?
Disney holds those keys and isn't playing ball. Otherwise, just take Magneto, Logan, and Jean (maybe Storm) and take them to a new crossover, like ArcSys vs. Capcom
@@Ilyak1986we are getting marvel vs cap on classic collection are you asleep?
Capcom should add Reina and Heihachi in season 3 Along with Vega and Balrog. This would be perfect
Freddy
Jason
Predator
Spawn
The rest are just forced and awful.
I'm the guy that wants Necro instead of Scorpion.
I think guest characters from other games become the wild cards. Brings unexpected factors back into the game which I think builds excitement more than a more traditional character would.
Honestly, I'm on board for a Mortal Kombat guest in Street Fighter 6.
Definitely want Sub-Zero the most.
I’m not extremely tuned into the fgc, but are the KoF characters more geared for a Japanese audience?
KoF is most popular in Latin America, they loooooove that shit
Im just gonna say i just hope street fighter donts become mortal kombat with all those guess characters from other franchises it only wastes slots for very good characters from street fighter.
Street Fighter have canonically met Terry & co. before so it makes sense they might meet again
Hakan's pretty neat; I think they should have a few "weird" characters
DarkStalkers need a re-launch😢
I feel like Liu Kang and Kitana as guest in SF6 will be far better than Subby or Scorpy. We got Terry and Mai, so make sense to add Liu Kang and Kitana from MK. After all, Liu Kang and Kitana is always seen as Ryu and Chun-Li counterpart
Nah, Scorpion and Sub-Zero are far better choices.
>Liu Kang
No one cares about him.
>Kitana
We already got Mai we don't need Blue Mai as well.
for sure sub and scorp first... but if they had a full 4 character nrs season pass...😅...I'm sure grown adults wouldn't throw a temper tantrum about that
Heihachi would be the ultimate guest character. With the story between him and Akuma in tekken, he would actually be a Canon guest character.
There's probably only gonna be 12 more characters added to this game. Plz no more guest characters.
I mentioned this on Twitter and ever since the Marvel Capcom collection announcement recently. I really want to see Cyclops and Rouge to be guest characters in SF6. it can make since since the whole Street Fighter vs Xmen game and MVC.
For me I wanna see Spider-Man in SF6 and voiced by Josh Keaton. And have like Spider-Mans webs be limited so they can reduce Spammers.
Subzero would be the biggest waste of a slot
My main wish for if they are adding more guest characters is that they will fill archetypes that aren't in the game yet. Because I think that's still the biggest problem with game currently alot of people are missing their character.
I think guest characters would be easier for the diehards to accept if they were framed differently by the dev team.
So Capcom sets the expectation that each DLC season is 4 characters, well this season has 4 SF characters + 1 or 2 guests. Then it feels like everyone wins. (Note: hyped for Terry + Mai, roster really needs more cool fighters.)
I would personally love to see the Capcom version of an MK character. Scorpion, Sub Zero , liu Kang , or Sonya. That would be cool as fuck I think.
Kind of interesting that it’s two SNK characters who get to be the guests.
Those two franchises kind of feel like the last holdouts
I dont really like mortal kombat but I'd actually love to see their take sub-zero with a capcom control scheme
i’m interested in how a mortal kombat looks like animated in street fighter
Makes me think, maybe they'll continue this kind of split each season - so two new SF characters, and two guests from a franchise, like two MK/GG/Tekken/... characters
As someone who made the move from MK to SF, Scorpion and Sub Zero would go crazy in SF6🔥
Or how about street fighter characters in street fighter 6?
What're you crazy? Are you out of your mind?
@@aledantih6524 I know it's a crazy take. i'm sorry for asking for something so ridiculous. 😢
@@animefan7789zz according to these 2 weirdos in the comments you are a "fake fan" of street fighter for wishing for something so awful
