This isn't coaching this is effort. This team should've won off of talent alone because the talent on this team was more superior than the other teams in this conference. How do you explain Coach Cal going three years in the AAC undefeated. It was talent but most importantly their effort!!! They became selfish and stop playing with effort
First of all, prayers go out to the Hardaway family, I hope your mother recovers. How can you be a top 10 team in the country and then lose to a team that doesn’t have a winning record. Why can’t Memphis beat the teams that they are supposed to beat? Yes, you should accept any invitation that is extended to the team. The team is bigger than one person.
Agreed, although he is going through a lot with his mother. Although lack there of this year Year, true Memphis fans love their Tiger’s grit. Being the underdog is why I LOVE the tigers, if college basketball is Hustle N’ Flow Tigers are DJ and the NCAA is Skinny Black. We will always FIGHT like our backs are against the wall and this team understands now (if they didn’t).
He’s mad at everybody but himself and you penny loyalist are ridiculous, this is a complete embarrassment and acceptable because Penny is the coach 🧐🤔🤦🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️
"We lose Caleb, who was the leader"...Come on Coach Hardaway, stop with the lame excuses!!! What message does that send to the other players that work hard everyday!
He was asked what was the turning point of the season and the biggest reason it unfolded... he didn't ask what the fucking excuse was.. you people take one side of a conversation without the other and make it look back.. clueless
Don’t be angry now you should’ve been angry the whole this is what happens when you’re to cocky for yourself. Remember you wanted all the smoke and other coaches are jealous of you🧐🤔🤷🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
Unbelievable!!! I really wanted this to work with Penny, but considering the collaspe i don't know if he will be able to come back from this, and we don't even know how serious the allegations are yet
One thing about Penny, he doesn’t settle for mediocrity. This is the same coach who gave the #1 team in the nation consistently hell (Houston). He tried a more offensive minded team this year and will tweak the roster or bring back the same squad and have more chemistry. They figured a lot out and had glimpses of excellency,, there’s no reason the core of this team can’t be successful together. This coach is not like the other 2 before Penny.
As a NATIVE Memphis reared man, Penny's problem as a head coach was he DIDN'T demand respect due partially being TOO soft with his immature players who looked at Penny being MORE as a friend than a coach. As BAD as i like to see Penny excell at home as a coach, he MAY have to go elsewhere where he may FIT with another problem. Memphis need a HARD nosed veteran head coach to propell the Tigers to BACK to PROMINENCE.🎉
Hard to really know what's going on here. I believe the talent was there, and it really showed at times, but just wasn't consistent. I like Penny, but I never felt like he was open to listening to the others for input, especially Rick Stansbury and the other coaches. He obviously didn't have the team's confidence, for whatever reason. I believe this is more than the players just not wanting to win. David Jones is a great player, but his complacent air during this session may tell us a lot about locker room morale. Losing Mills and Dandridge was huge, but more was going on than the fan base will probably ever know. Hard to be optimistic about our future. Hope I'm wrong. Love Penny and sending prayers out to his mom.
Prayers to Mom❤ being a sole caretaker is difficult especially when you have some many other obligations. Sending love, peace, strength and healing to Penny, mom and family.
I understand that he is upset with watching his Mama sick. So the coach makes the decision on not accepting the NIT bid wonder if the players were asked if they wanted to play it Rick could have coach him so that would have freed up Penny to take care of his Mama. Well that’s the wrap for this season.
I think this team was just so mentally destroyed heading into this AAC conference tournament. Maybe they were still in such disbelief at how season hopes had crumbled so quickly since mid January. This is a team that scored like 110 points on in the middle of January on the road (at Wichita) so no way it could be anything but mental and/or something going on in locker room behind the scenes. Something happened to this team mentally after that USF home loss, UAB road loss and Rice loss at home. Penny almost got the defense back on track for a little stretch heading into that FAU Road game. It was after the north Texas and SMU losses that I think the team started to listen to coaching & take defense seriously for maybe 2 to 3 games and really focus on rebounding the whole 40 minutes .The only thing that seemed to work was putting the focus on being defensive monsters and offensive rebounding numbers, but as soon as they went back to the same bad habits, you kinda had the sense watching as a fan that it was all downhill. Roster construction-Spots on the roster left open for DeAndre Williams, Mikey Williams, JJ Taylor being suspended, Jordan Brown leaving the team and coming back for reasons we still do not know, Malcolm Dandridge being pulled for what might be academic reasons-we still don’t know. Caleb Mills with the unfortunate injury. A lot of things just went really badly.
This might be the problem. Acting like we have some kind of 'prestige' and can pick and choose a tourney? St. Thomas, Drexel, Tulane, Hofstra, FURMAN....all rank higher than WS and they just easily spanked the Tigers. What tourney needs THEM?
These players can't leave fast enough. Their attitudes are horrible. Their immaturity is on full display.
geoff calkins was right. he ask smart questions too.
Tigers will be back. This team was just flawed. Too many egos and not enough defense
Didn’t loose cuz if celeb lost cuz team stop playing

I think it was the conference usa back then and it completely different teams

Prayers up for Pennys Mom. ❤

Facts Tubby didn’t have half the talent penny got and they sent him packing
Team can't shoot. Chucked up 29 3s anyway. Why even have a coach?

Caleb was a huge loss. Look him up. He's a dog.
That's not an excuse because once he got hurt, the team started losing. He was the leader of the team. How can you win without a leader?
I didn't know his mom was sick,so he is going through a lot, that might explain his mind set, will be praying for him and his family
.
Penny is a great coach. This team stopped playing many games ago. Quinberly or whatever his name is didn't try to play.
Proof. I really like Penny as a person. I haven’t seen proof that he should be a head coach above the high school level.
His teams underachieved or they choke in big moments. How is that a good coach? If it wasn’t for his name and ties to Memphis he would be gone already
Core possibly coming back next year?? What core! Most are seniors!
They are eligible for another year, thanks to covid.
13:19 is why we lost 2nd part of the season. No accountability from players. They didn’t even want to ansa the question
Point guard play was inconsistent the entire year.
Don’t be angry now you should’ve been angry the whole this is what happens when you’re to cocky for yourself. Remember you wanted all the smoke and other coaches are jealous of you🧐🤔🤷🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
Of course nothing good to say about the Shockers! They were outplayed by a better team. Period.
Unbelievable!!! I really wanted this to work with Penny, but considering the collaspe i don't know if he will be able to come back from this, and we don't even know how serious the allegations are yet
Its so over lmaooo

Memphis always gets the best talent, year after year, I wonder what Bruce Pearl or Kelvin Sampson could have done with this team?.

COLBY ROGERS...

I don’t think Memphis would accept a CBI bid. NIT or nothing at this point.
