Watched a lot of BJJ videos and I have to say your instructional videos are excellent. Fully explained, well detailed and they always offer a multitude of scenarios/variations should you have a 'not so' compliant opponent in a roll. Thanks to all involved in making these!!
Excellent details on the Ude Gatame, I've rarely ever hit this rolling, but that may soon change. I'm sure you know that trapped arm position leads to a very easy to finish choke/diaphragm crush that we Judoka call Kuzure Kata Gatame but is also known colloquially as the "Howdy Choke" if one drills it frequently if can be a very high percentage and quite efficient with proper body mechanics. Thanks again for your masterfully taught lessons.
Fantastic instruction, and lends itself nicely to a fun lockflow drill as well. I've seen these taught, but not as an if-this-then-that approach - much more usable. As always, high respect Firas!
Excellent. Okay, I like how your demos are done. I did Judo for 40 years, ouch, gave my age away. I also did BJJ for it's emphasis on newaza (ground game ). Your video demos are excellent. Schools and instructors spoon feed students. I dropped out of competition out of fear of breaking an arm, especially my right arm, my an artist and I needed my to earn a living . It happened anyway 35 years later tore my shoulder. Back in 1985 only a few American Judokas had any clew as to what BJJ was.
I saw something very similar from the last episode of Mastering the system. looks like great basic stuff. I used to go for kimoras or americanas or triangles to kimura or cowgirl from that position 2 yrs back but this position/submission looks much safer.
Hi Firas thank you for another fantastic video. When he tries to clear your foot with his hand how do you feel about reaching down with the underhooking arm and holding onto your ankle so he cant clear it then continuing to work the arm bar on the near arm?
This straight armbar is one of my favorite move, but sometimes the opponent pulls out and often with strong guys is hard to straighten the arm, it will always have a bend in it and I cannot finish them there. Is it because I didn't pinch well enough with my head or is it the elbow I didn't control ? Would love to hear your advice around this.
I've always been a bit skeptical of that armbar (you know which one I'm talking about haha). I've felt it while drilling and sure I figure I might be able to screw up and maybe break a similar size/strength man's arm, but I just don't see it happening with someone ~20% bigger and/or stronger... I think I might get a compliance tap from a bigger guy, but unless he is long and lanky (more leverage) how can I damage their arm? I just really lack (personal) confidence in the technique, as I always imagine them gritting their teeth and escaping... (disclaimer: I have never attempted it in live training) Am I wrong and just whining? :)
If you do it right and align the arm correctly it will break. Of course you should always have a plan B as explained in the video. Over the years you will get better and better at fine tuning you technique. Focus on the details and Im sure this will help your game.
Tristar Gym Still skeptical (seems like plan B is better than plan A), but I'll trust your judgement over mine, in this case. And I'm definitely not going to argue haha I do wonder why "plan B" is not your plan A, though I expect it may be a pain to explain in text so I won't hold it against you if you don't answer... Thanks, I always get excited when I see you have a new video!
Thank you! Great video. I particularly like the detail on direction to push with head and illustrating the why of the sprawl from mount.
Love all the videos Firas. You always seam to add extra details other instructional videos miss.

Thanks again, great combo techniques!

Thanks so much for these videos!
Awesome work as always, thank you
great video, but why sprawl when mounting instead of jumping up to smount since the arms are up already?
Amazing absolutely amazing

Coach could you do the follow up to this position? Like what submissions you coul get for that position?
does being so close to hips give the opponent a way to escape
Thank you
Damn. Je penses jamais à faire le move à 5 minutes quand le dude enlève ta jambe de dans sa face. Nice!

+Christian Rankin I have seen many top jiu jitsu fighters escape from arm bars quite well at high level competitions.
i like this vid
Why not go for the kimora instead when he puts pressure on ur leg. His arm is bent and you are already half sitting up.
