one thing i think sets you apart from other content creators is that you dont make a living off of it, so you can prioritize your authenticity, draw like minded people and cultivate such an awesome community.
i think the people who prioritize selling their personal brand may have the struggle of tying their self-worth to their financial income, which could feed into a view and liked based mindset
so its really refreshing to hear you talk about your struggle so openly, and i hope you continue to make content like this. as a fresh grad beginning full time work but also aspiring towards creative dreams, you’re a big inspiration for me.

this was so comforting!! We’re about the same age and most of the things you talked about have been the shadow of my year- esp about personal style and never feeling 100% happy! maybe its the battle of the mid -20s, but cheering you on as we work through it! 💛

Your podcast feels like a breath of fresh air compared to others and I really liked this episode. It highlighted areas in my life that I am currently working on.
I also work in corporate, but I actually feel the opposite; I felt my coworkers created a space for me to really express myself.

I’m about halfway through listening and have a LOT of thoughts here - the term personal branding makes my insides hurts. It makes us as humans reduced to capital to be marketed rather than intimate beings with the capacity for complex emotions, vast abilities, deep needs for connection, and nuance. Not to be that person that’s like “it’s late capitalism,” but it’s late capitalism babe. And social media is all connected to the systems at play here. No longer is social media about socializing, but rather it’s curated capital (influencers/content creators) dictating our consumption. I feel so free after deleting the clock app and anything meta. Growing up, I saw participation in social media as necessary to connect with my peers, but as an adult, I now see it is voluntary (because it always has been). Girl, what if you didn’t participate in scrolling? How would it feel to not describe yourself as chronically online? What if you were your authentic self at work (spoiler alert: you’d still have your job and you might even thrive more at it)? What if you didn’t buy the microtrend because it is truly heinous? I know this is way more nuanced since half of your work IS online, but nonetheless I think asking the why and doing the thought exercise can be useful! The perpetual identity crisis only makes sense in the state of the world where everything, including intangible concepts like lifestyle and personality, are commodified and consumable. It’s by design!

Your comment resonates with me. I deleted all the social media apps from my phone because I found myself scrolling for hours through content that wasn't healthy. One of the most difficult things for me after deleting social media is that it exacerbates my identity crisis since I don't feel as connected with people an I cant distract myself. It does have its benefits but its like jumping on the deep end.
