    As someone with knee issues, that higher ride is something I’ve always liked in the forester. But, that crossbar feature is nice on the Outback!!

    After I had hip replacement, I was told that Forester was recommended by an orthopedic association for ease of getting in and out. That is truly an asset for older drivers along with the visibility aspects. Maybe this isn't a useful endorsement for the younger and sportier crowd. However I just had a second replacement of a hip, but I wouldn't replace my Forester!!

    Excellent comparison. And we just drove home in our 2025 Outback Premium with package 13. I'm not a sunroof fan, and it looks like the Android Auto map program is better than the factory TomTom map program. The car rides quiet and smooth, and my boy racer days are over, so I didn't need the turbo version. Thanks again for all you do for us Subaru enthusiasts.

    I thought I would add my experience on this in the hopes it helps someone considering these two cars...Up until last month (Nov 2024), I owned a 2020 Forester - well, it was my wife's primary vehicle. (I currently drive a 2024 Accord hybrid). However, my local Subaru dealership reached out to see if I would be interested in the new 2025 Forester. One of the big grips my wife and I both had with our current Forester can be a bit loud on the highway. I was telling her that was one criticism the 2025 Forester addressed. I also did suggest to her to also consider looking at the Outback. I reached back out to the dealer and asked if my wife and I could test drive both the Outback and Forester. We first set off in the Outback, my wife drove, and while I was sitting shotgun, I kept it to myself, but I quickly knew how much more refined the Outback's ride was over the 2020 Forester. After getting on the highway, it was obviously a quieter and more car like vehicle. After getting back to the dealer and waiting to bring the 2025 Forester up for the test, I told my wife I really liked the Outback, and she agreed. After climbing into the 2025 Forester, it had basically the same ride as the 2020 and it was a little quieter, but no contest the Outback was to me the better vehicle. My wife felt the same and we were discussing it if we were simply going from 2020 to the 2025 Forester - it would have been no deal, and we would have kept the 2020 Forester. After all, we have a little over 50K on the odometer and no issues at all with the car. I am not putting down the new Forester so don't get me wrong, the 2025 Forester is quite nice, and I think it was improved over the 2020. Just not enough to move on to the new generation. TBH, pricing is a problem. Granted all automobiles are way to high post COVID but I think the Forester priced too high. And if I am being honest, every other vehicle on the road being an SUV is getting boring. If it is not obvious, we went with the Outback Touring trim, and it was a bonus the preferred color was available (blue with black interior). For perspective, it is the 2.5 NA and not the XT. Is it a little slow; maybe. Under normal driving no issues in town and getting on the highway, once you are up to speed, the non-turbo is adequate. I will state it again what I like better with the Outback over the Forester, is more cargo space and that it rides and handles more like a car, hence the Outback is a lifted wagon and not a full-blown SUV. To me that is a major positive in the Outback's favor and not a negative. As for the future of the Outback, since Subaru is dropping the Legacy and the spy photos of 2026 looking more like an SUV, is that going to hurt future sales of the Outback? Is the car-like ride going to radically change? I am sure the prices will also go up. It seems like Subaru is moving away from what made the Outback, the Outback and it could be just another box on wheels SUV.

    The 2025 Subaru Forester is a very comfortable vehicle to drive, sort of reminds me of a Cadillac it's so comfortable. I really like it, very comfortable vehicle, beautifully made seats and interior. I love the visibility. What I hate is the Auto Start/Stop, I absolutely hate it. I have to turn it off every time I start the car. Another thing, the Forester is beautiful, it's a fine looking vehicle. Not a fan of 'moon/sun roofs' though. Another thing, the gas gauge is backwards, Full is where Empty would be at the top of the gauge, it's like a backwards gauge located under the speedometer. The gas cap is also on the passenger side. Which is weird. lol If Roomy is what you like, then the Forester is for you, because it's got some room to it. You won't feel claustrophobic in a Forester.

    I drove an Outback Touring XT for two weeks as a loaner from the dealer. I ended up buying the 2025 Forester Sport. The visibility and driving postion is much more comfortable in the Forester. I loved the power in the XT but I didn't like the actual ride. Visibility on the driver front quarter is quite bad due to the roof pillar and the seating angle. Both are fine vehicles.

      Hey! Took a test drive of both the Forester and Outback, and generally liked them, but there are a couple of things I can’t quite figure out or decide on for myself. As someone with more experience, did you ever feel like the steering is too light and sensitive, almost like you’re losing control at times? And how are the seats on long drives? they felt a bit narrow and firm to me... Do your legs and back get tired after a while? Would love to hear your thoughts on these :)

    My wife likes her Lexus RDX’s higher seating position. She is sure to prefer the higher seating position in the Forester…we are about to try both Subarus. Unless she strongly prefers the added space of the Outback, my guess is the Forester will be living at our house. I get to inherit the Lexus to replace my Tacoma so it will have a trailer hitch installed to be the family utility vehicle.

    Alex, awesome video and timing is perfect as my wife is wrestling with the decision of trading her 2019 Subaru Ascent she's had for 6 years for either a 2025 Forester or Outback. Please correct me if I'm mistaken but for fuel economy as long as I stay away from the Wilderness or XTs the gas mileage is similar between the Forester and Outback. I appreciate your in depth explanation of the seating scenarios between both cars, especially coming out of the Ascent. She's looked at both in the showroom and the next step is to test drive them. Heck, I couldn't get her interested in the Honda CRV Hybrid what we test drove with 38-40MPG, she didn't like the way it felt sitting in the driver's area compared to the Ascent, and felt much more comfortable with the Subarus she looked at. Any other helpful tips would be great, we are looking at the Limited and Touring packages for both, but I also stumbled across the Outback Onyx that looks really nice. Thank you so much!

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  19 дней назад +1

      Thank you! You're correct, the Outback and Forester with the standard 2.5L will have similar mpg. If she hasn't already, I'd suggest test driving the 2.5 and the 2.4T that comes in the Outback. She might like the turbo option since she is already used to that in her 2019 Ascent. I've found the mpg is only about 3 mpg less on the turbo Outback compared to the NA versions. Hope this helps!

    The most important difference for me is the Outback is built in America while the Forester is still built in Japan. The American built Subarus have had build quality issues. The Forester has been bulletproof for years. Mine has 52,000 miles with no problems. I’d buy another one with no hesitation.

    The vast majority of commenters for a car enthusiast or otherwise someone interested in cars video recommends the Outback XT for a good reason. Most people who are into cars recognise the 2.5L H4 engine to be a true slug when used to drive a 4 ton vehicle. In the Impreza, sure, although it's still not as peppy as the older 2000's Subbie engine/transmission combos. I'm happily driving the Outback Limited XT as my daily driver and it uses pretty much the same amount of gas as my old 2007 Impreza naturally aspirated 2.5L. Perfect.

    The choice is obvious for me since I bought the 2024 Outback Onyx Edition XT instead of Forester (or anything else for that matter).
    That 2.4 Turbo Boxer is a game changer. 0-60 in 5.5-5.8 secs while still being able to make 25 MPG in the city.
    Plus Outback is simply prettier. Beautiful car with sexy design inside and outside.

    One thing not mentioned is cabin space for driver. Height is more than just a sitting position, it also affects surroundings. I'm a bit wider than average, so I notice the difference pretty much immediately - in Outback it feels way too cramped, in Forester I can seat comfortably for hours.
    Test drove both because at first Forester test drive wasn't available (car was already out and test driver was late to return, so dealer offered to drive Outback instead of waiting), it was also in winter with winter coat on, which made me even wider. Returned Outback in 15 minutes because I couldn't comfortably seat in it, sat in Forester and immediately noticed difference. Ended up buying even older SJ Forester from dealer, love it.

      That's a tough choice! I have the Onyx non-turbo so mine is right in between the Premium trim and the Onyx XT. I'm a huge fan of the way the Onyx looks with the black wheels. I also wanted something with interior that was easy to keep clean. Naturally, the Onyx interior is going to be easier to clean than the Premium. I chose the Onyx non-turbo because I thought the mpg would be significantly better but it's really not much different than the XT option (roughly 3 mpg difference). If you intend to pull any kind of weight and you like the the additional hp/torque, I'd go for the Onyx XT. You also get the full size matching spare with the Onyx XT, which I think is a nice add.

    Will the 2025 Forester eventually have a Hybrid option similar to the Outback?

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  4 месяца назад +1

      @@Slurpcat1 the Forester won’t have a hybrid option until the 2026 model year. The Outback doesn’t currently have a hybrid option but we’re hoping to get that after the Forester hybrid is released. If you meant to say turbo option like the Outback, the Forester isn’t likely to get that either

    I have the 2025 Forester Touring model. My biggest disappointment is that this model doesn't have Home link. This is my third Subaru Forester and they always had home link. Even the dealership was not aware of this. I didn't know until I took the car home and tried to set up the garage door opener. Now I have to use 3 garage and gate openers. With all the crazy stuff they now have in this car they discontinue something as useful as home link.Shame on you Subaru!

      You mean the Touring has No ability to garage door open? I just got a 2025 Forester Sport and mine has what appears to be 3 options. I do have one button synced for my garage, which is a nice option.

      Homelink is a double edged sword. Park your car outside for some reason and junkies break your window and open your garage. Happened to us.

    I'm driving my 3rd Subaru Outback 2021 Limited and the lease ends in December. I don't like the looks of the newer Outbacks because of all the black accents they've added. It just looks ugly to me. I've considered going back to the Ascent that I had before this Outback. And of course it's only my opinion, but the Wilderness models with that orange accents is pretty ugly as well. I am a big fan of Subaru's. And I always enjoy your reviews.

    Im actually pretty worn down after I took the car in and they said it would cost $600 to look at warranty issues like the dcm, nav update and transmission. Kicked out of anthother dealership! Heres what I'm asking, send me the truth of all the times I went to the dealerships for help that aren't on the service records. The service record doesn't have the 3 hour wait for no update from Carlsbad or the last attempt as instructed by Glen to see if the car battery would not go dead. If you really wanted to be a champion and take down the Subaru mafia, you could send me all the phone conversations including the one that the cvt is not part of the drivetrain. I said I was worn down and I am I have one last gasp after I hear or don't hear back from you and the above information would be helpful. I always look at things how they read on the front page of the paper. SUBARU WON'T COVER CVT AS IT IS NOT PART OF THE DRIVETRAIN! SUBARU ADVOCACY SAYS" have the dealer check the dcm" DEALER TELLS CUSTOMER $200 TO CHECK EACH WARRANT ISSUE. 56,000 MILES THREE BATTERIES, TWO TRANSMISSIONS, CLASS ACTION NAVIGATION SYSTEM, FUEL PUMP RECALL, REPLACED BAD DCM'S WITH BAD DCM'S "FEEL THE SUBARU LOVE". CUSTOMER WAITS FOR THREE HOURS FOR NAVIGATION FIX ON SUBARU AND THE DEALER DIDN'T EVEN UPDATE IT. TOM TOM NO LONGER THE PATHETIC NAVIGATION SYSTEM ON SUBARU OUTBACKS, CLASS ACTION SUITS CONTINUE!! I wouldn't pardon Subaru if it was may child after all the mistakes. The CEO should be aware that people are just getting lip service and products that are pathetic to the point that the dealers charge $200 to look at warranty issues. Fading fast, one last gasp! Hope this day finds you well and you end up with the power and ability to be transparent about you cars and customer service. Remember I'm fading fast but the time and cost for both of us will continue to far exceed what doing the right thing would have. Listen to my remedies in the old phone calls.

    The biggest thing that scares me away from Subaru are the transmissions. I do maintain my vehicles, but not so religiously as to spend tons of money on trans service every few years lest it falls apart.

    Why don't they put the XT option back in the Forester? Personally, I'll never buy another Subaru without the Turbo engine. It's just drastically underpowered without it. So the Forester can never compete with any Outback XT, thus the Outback XT wins. I also like the longer cargo space and the better roof racks on the Outback. I don't like the lower seating, but it can be overcome by raising the seat. Forester has much better overall visibility. I'm on my 4th Subaru, 1st Outback (due to XT), and love these vehicles.
