I have more than a dozens jackfruit tree in my yard (Longwood fl) some are 3yrs old and some are younger and yet no male fruit yet! Very little rain and tab water is not so great. I'm so glad to see someone like this tree and plant plenty of it. You have much more room in your land to put down more varieties, let load it up, then someday you can have a plantation of jackfruit for us to tour. Thanks for sharing
Thx for the vid! Here in Hawai’i island we have only three grafted jackfruits in circulation and they are hard to get: Golden nugget, Black Gold, and Ziman Pink. All are not good selections for the area, especially the ziman. I have my own garden with grafted ‘orange crush’ x 2, grafted ‘Borneo Red’ x 2, grafted ‘Jackabella’ which is a Florida selection, and I have three different grafted chempedak x jackfruit. I have seedlings of Ns-1, Borneo Red, and from a Malaysian CHeena. I have a chemp x Jack trying to fruit but no pollination until the others catch up. It’s such an amazing hobby.
Thanks for sharing!! The interesting theory in Jamaica is most of our fruit trees are seedling so we don't know what varieties we have , sopodilla, mangoes, jackfruit etc.
Nice video, I have a 20' seed grown Jackfruit tree here in Lakeland. It will be 3 years old in March. Had lots of male flowers this past spring. If I can get it through another winter I think I should see female flowers and fruit next year. I have an overhead shower setup for freeze protection. Didn't have to use it last year and hope I won't need it this year.
Regarding your Excalibur Red tree, I also purchased a "Excalibur Red" tree which was sold to me as a "grafted" tree. Well, the graft join was not visible, but I was excited to be able to get one and bought it anyways. After 7 years and a hurricane knockdown in between, it produced great fruit the first crop. Not red, but sort of a deep orange, crispy fruit. Advantages: Excellent taste and texture (more on this at the end.) very easy to peel, pods pull apart very easily, you could peel an entire fruit in 15 mins as it has very little latex. A very large percentage of the rag is edible, even better than the pods. Fairly productive. Now the bad part. Second crop was pretty bad tasting. Waiting to see what will happen this year, they will be ready in just a few weeks.
I planted 3 jackfruit trees earlier this year from seed. One grew about 6ft after planting it in ground early march.! Located in the panhandle, I hope they'll survive the winter.
I just put one 6 ft tall jackfruit inside the garage to avoid this cold weather coming this weekend. But, two of jackfruit trees in the ground for sometime, I hope they will survive this cold weather.
Hey! One of our RUclips subscribers recommended y’all since we are neighbors! We are excited to meet you and look forward to getting to know you and following your journey! We are 20 miles north of you in Manatee County. 💚Kevin and Bonnie Wild Coffee Homestead
We plant all of our jackfruits as 3g trees. We mulch them heavily, but provide no other nutrients. They may get some potassium and calcium from around the neighboring mango trees.
I usually only mulch them and have perennial peanut growing at the base. I have added potassium sulphate a few times over the years. Be sure not to prune unless the trees are actively growing. Die back can occur if pruned when not actively growing.
Thanks for this useful video. I’ve grown 3 jackfruit plants from seeds and they look healthy. I’m going to keep them in large pots in my conservatory sun room. Will they survive in pots and do they need heavy watering? What soil type is best for them to fruit please? Sorry about asking so many questions as there aren’t many videos on Jackfruits! Strange as I think they are so tasty! Thanks a lot and best wishes.
Jack fruit is one of my favorite fruits. Do you grow mamey sapote or black sapote? I don't think I have seen any video from you on those. Just curious how well they do in west Florida.
Bhajan Aujla we do have Mamey and Black Sapote trees. Both can fruit here, but it can be a bit cold where we are for Mamey since the fruit takes so long to ripen and we get occasional freezing temps.
Hello. I am in search of an american co that packages and sells the jackfruit. I want to find a good source to purchase it from. On line I am only finding it originating from sri lanka and other countries. I want Made In America. Any suggestions would be appreciate. Thank you!!
How did your mangoes do this year? I’ve got several young mango trees planted in the last two years many just last year and about three this year. Didn’t have fruit on them but they sure did grow. I probably gave them too much fertilizer. Hoping for a good season in 2020.
Our coconut cream produced the best. A few big producers from the year before didn’t produce at all this year (Peach Cobbler and SweetTart). We had a decent amount of Lemon Zest, Valencia Pride, and Cogshall this past summer. We also tasted our first Cotton Candy from our tree.
Thanks, I’ve been watching your videos some of them several times your taste test got me interested in growing some mangoes. I kind of went crazy. I started out with one thinking that’s all I was going to have but I think I have 12 trees, three of which I grew from seed‘s and grafted them all with the varieties like fruit punch, coconut cream, PPK and made two of them Franken trees with three varieties on each one. I wish I had more space. I also planted 4 avocado trees from seeds and grafted them with Florida Hass. I never thought I could do all the grafting I did and be so successful at it. My neighbors don’t understand why I am grafting my seedlings. When I explain to them it will take years and years for them to mature enough to produce fruit and by grafting them they can have fruit in just a couple of years. They just turn their heads like a little puppy dog and all I hear is crickets. I also have piña colada, Pickering, Floragon, orange sherbet ,ice cream malika and peach cobbler and I know I missed one. Good luck in 2020 I hope your season is fruitful!
We eat rare jackfruit and papaya all the time. They are staples in SE Asian diet. We use it to make a particular type of salads and here it is really hard to find. My mom would love to buy some here, but only in S. California do they have them.
did you try to grow chempedaks? They are supposedly have better flavor, very low latex. smaller fruit and easy to process. Cheena is natural cross of jackfruit and chempedak.

I'm seriously impressed by the health of your jackfruit trees.

jennifer wilson Hopefully you will have fruit soon. The trees we irrigate and mulch heavy do produce more readily.

Great info. Good talk on Jackfruits. Plus, the Trees are very Beautiful!!!!
Who doesn't love jackfruit!? Yum!!!
Beautiful trees you have! Cheena will blow you away!! Incredible tasting fruit and texture!!!!
japeth harrison Thank you! Looking forward to tasting it!
Beautiful trees. Thanks for sharing 😀👍🏼🌱🌳
Beautiful and impressive trees! I just grafted two Golden Nuggets and getting ready to place them into my yard in Melbourne, FL.
That’s wonderful! Hope they produce well for you!

Thank you for your video. I have a very young jackfruits, two are molded (looking bad). Should I get ripoff it?
Sound like those are male flowers. The will always turn black/mold and fall off.
Orange crush is an extra crunchy selection with, obviously, orange arils.
you are the know more about Jackefruit than anyone I have seen on any on youtube no clue their was that many verities
Can you please share what type of food do you feed a young Jack in a 20-gal pot?

@@SulcataGrove Hmmmm, thank you.
good video content, very inspiring, I like it, greetings from vidofarm Indonesia
Them are some nice looking jackfruit trees. How far do you keep your other trees away form your Valencia pride mango tree.
bud row The valencia Pride is around 20’ from other trees I think
so, whats the update on your seedling varieties . did they taste good?
Saathvik Bhat They fruited this year. We have tasted S1 and S2 which were both very good, but high in latex. They both have edible rag.
@@SulcataGrove cool, how many years did they take for the first flowering ?
Saathvik Bhat I think around 2 years.
The Orange Crush must have fruited by now, are they any good? What did it look like size/color?
Has not fruited yet.
This is my favorite fruit.
How do keep them healthy? I live in Venice south of Sarasota. What fertilizer do you use?
I usually only mulch them and have perennial peanut growing at the base. I have added potassium sulphate a few times over the years. Be sure not to prune unless the trees are actively growing. Die back can occur if pruned when not actively growing.
@@SulcataGrove Thank you! Your trees are so green and healthy. They are almost decorative trees.
Do you have an NS1?
took 4 seedlings and grafted them into one, BOSS!
Thanks for the info! If you had to choose one of these varieties which would you choose?
Bridgette Bonner Bangkok Lemon and Cristela are my favorites.
How do you prevent fruit from turning black and rotting before they get ripe?
I haven't had that issue. How big are yours when this is happening?

Can a jackfruit seedling survive 45 degrees Fahrenheit?
Yes. Shouldn’t be an issue
Also can we buy seedlings
I purchased the orange crush cos they ran out of Blackgold , just wondering if yours have fruited and your opinion on that cultivar.
No fruit on ours yet
@@SulcataGrove thanks
When you describe the soft one as being like a slug in your mouth, would you describe the texture of a fully ripe persimmon in the same way?
Jack fruit is one of my favorite fruits.

Nice video. What is the best zone to grow them? If it possible to grow them in a greenhouse? I’m from the Netherlands.
Motorpenny they do best in zones 10 and higher. I have seen them fruit in greenhouses as long as it doesn’t freeze inside
Where and how do you get your trees to plant in the ground?
Ana Maria Guadayol some we graft ourself, others are purchased wholesale by our nursery.
Where’s the banana crunch in the video🤔
MAD FOR MANGO I haven’t put a tree in the ground yet 😭 trying to talk Craig into putting one where our Cochin Jackfruit was that died.
Sulcata Grove I just purchased one hopefully we can plant one around the same time tyty

I sell freeze dried jackfruit grown at our farm, on our website.
What type of Jackfruit do they grow in Jamaica?
I’m not sure.
Can you prune a Jackfruit tree to keep it dwarf and if so will it still grow fruit?
@@R1M1r1m1 Some varieties grow less aggressively than others. We keep ours pruned at 8-12’.
