yay! this is a kid btw
As a novice woodworker your videos both inspire and disturb me equally
Michael, you have outdone yourself. A professional grade, solid hardwood, custom-built kitchen which is tailored to your own appliances and needs is most people's dream. The quality of work is probably better than you could buy given to the care, attention and love lavished on it. Are we really not going to see any patterned plywood anywhere?!?
The craftsmanship, the attention to detail, the sheer beauty of the art.. my god, this is going to be such a beautiful house!
Congrats to you and Ashley btw!
Thanks so much!
I agree.
Those tiny baby Irwin clamps are so cute haha
Congrats on the marriage!
Omg those little clamps are so cute.
That looks so good and handy. The door sliding into the side is such a nice touch too.
This is by far the nicest-looking storage solution I've seen for a kitchen.
My absolute favourite part has to be that handle you turned yourself. The ebony splines made it that much more special.
Looking forward to seeing how the house progresses.
Michael, i wonder how many people seeing that little handle will mistake your dowels for screws. They look great though. Kudos.
When cutting wood, you should use a tool to push the wood. Doing so will create a cute cutting design in your hand. Wishing you more and more success.
Functional excellence
Bravo sir, nice freaking work!
If I ever get a chance to remodel a kitchen, I am going to be inspired by your work.
I saw this video briefly when it first came out, but due to a glitch in RUclips app I only saw the introduction, app refreshed itself and gone the video was. I tried to find it again, but didn’t find it. But now the algorithm gods had mercy on me. 😂
I absolutely love your kitchen. I live in an art nouveau building, I have a kitchen with a bit awkward layout and limited space and I had to demolish the ceramic wood stove I had in my kitchen to fit the kitchen cabinetry. So, I can relate to so many things in your videos!
But what I really would need is someone with your skills and ideas to build my cabinetry. The way you design to maximise the space you have is impressive! I’m a huge fan!
It's just so refreshing to see someone building a kitchen without any melamine or MDF in it.
Gorgeous! I'm fighting the sin of envy from my teeny-tiny apartment.
Love the look of that monocoat. I'm always sad to see lovely wood turn yellow or orange when finish goes on.
OK, the splines in the handle nail your "woodworkery" goal
the part when the dado blades hit the aluminum fence broke my heart... $300.. and your fingers weren't even close to the blade.. lol
aluminum fence cunduct electricity . blade tutch aluminum tutch hands Voila!
@6:00 you might try David Picciuto's trick - coat the regular veneer with wood glue and let dry, then iron it on to the substrate.
That is some great storage!!!
Nice work, you could also use a vacuum bag for veneering to avoid contact cement.
You always give me nostalgia when I hear the song for your final reveal. It always reminds me of Airwolf.
@10:14 "Ashley thinks . . . and I have to agree with her . . " Good boy Michael. You are set up for a long and happy marriage.
I'm 100% certain you are much more experienced than me but I learned something from my mentor when it comes to splines in miter boxes. when cutting them on the bandsaw you can use a mitre gauge set to 45 and make little triangles that you can then take to a belt sander which saves a lot of time. Just my personal preference though 👍
On another note I learned a lot from this video Thank you so much
Congratulations to you and your bride! And beautiful work as always :)
You are amazing!
It's amazing how you transformed that little space into such an epic feature! I can't wait to see your beautiful home continue to unfold!
They look absolutely beautiful.
Just one tip, I can see that you are using a Ryoba saw when cutting of the splines. Is there any reason why you're not using a full flush cut saw? They do not have any saw teeth set so that you don't scratch the surface with the teeth of the saw. Maybe your small Ryoba saw is a flush cut saw, but they usually ony have teeth on one side and are usually much thinner to be able to bend to get really close to the surface.
The best part of this house series are the cabinets, furniture, drawers/doors, etc. and especially this stunning design which I think will last for many decades to come. I’m so thrilled to see what’s next and anytime you’re filming in the shop it’s a win! Btw I get those pocket doors and very much appreciate you filming how to because I think they’re very underutilized when they’re not only functional but beautiful as a way to hide the doors when you need access to the pantry. Stunningly gorgeous, curious to see if you add in patterned ply anywhere or even patterned hardwood. I made cheese boards with your alpine pattern (for family gifts) out of multiple species of hardwoods safe for cutting boards and food and your design was just stunning with a gradient of hardwoods. It’s almost an ombré effect but with wood
I jammed my finger into the dado doing a sketchy "stopped dado", and yes, I knew it was sketchy, and yes it made my finger ugly as heck, but I still have a finger (thank you sawstop). Saw was fine.
Michael you Sir are a Master Craftsman and artist the cabinets look amazing. Beautiful work.can’t wait to see what it’s going to look like finished.
Thank you!!
I'm still obsessed with the finger pull door handles! Going to attempt replicating them on my built in closet project.
Michael, these are great cabinets and incredible organizers.
I like the handle. They kinda remind me of bongo ties.
I’m sure tripping the saw stop was frustrating but it goes to show how important that safety mechanism is. Thank you for showing us when things don’t go according to plan 😊
Such thoughtful storage design! SUGGESTION from a wise old woman for the next set of pantry shelves: raise the bottom stop strip that keeps items from sliding off, ⅛ to ¼ inch above the shelf. That creates a narrow slot so crumbs, dust, etc can be swept off the shelf. Even though dry pantry goods are in boxes, they can tear, jars lids can loosen & glass can crack, all of which results in spillage. It can be frustrating to try to clean up the inside of a boxed shelf. It's an easy fix to create an opening by simply raising up the stop strip.
Very cool, Mike. You're making us Mikes proud!
This is the type of pantry I have always wanted! Especially since I have to call for my hubby to get my stand mixer down from the top of the fridge if I need to use it (at least I found a cute cat shaped cover for it!) or the griddle, or the food processor, or the ice cream maker...
Though I did repurpose a huge old oak computer armoire to house more used appliances: as the blender, Instant Pot, coffee maker, & grinder, with plenty of storage space everywhere. The best $50 spent to fot all my cooking paraphernalia until we redesign the kitchen someday.
Love the look of the splined miters! Interestingly enough another RUclipsr tested all kinds to joints and found glued miters to be the strongest joint! I suspect it’s like gluing drinking straws full of glue joined at 45°, the glue makes for a very strong bond - Splined miters were the second strongest joint he tested
great job man
Stunning cabinets! so beautiful and functional. When my wife and I were building our house...we had a pull out shelf to hold our huge mixer installed...fits into the cabinet and pulls out and and up then locks into place to use with the mixer secure on top...it is quite a back saver since both of us are well into our 60s.
I was going to say that Michael will eventually HATE that location for the mixer - it's just too heavy to move. Either add power behind so you can use it where it is or rethink.
When a woodworker doesn't trust wood glue.
Instead of replacing that hardware what about putting a nice trim piece in brass or even that ebony to pull details from the handle throughout? I think that’d look slick and I love seeing what you make with brass hints!
If this the fridge surround and pantry can't wait for the rest of the kitchen, it's going to be incredible!!!
Realy good. Wonderful. From Germany.
That handle with the ebony though.
Beautiful work! Now, come help me build a pantry in my Airstream ☺️
The fact that you're an artist as well as a woodworker shows through in all of your work...Masterful! Thanks for sharing it.
Make that Japanese tool haul video!
Very cool. About the only thing I would change is the back of the upper cabinet which is obviously plywood with their ugly knots. On one hand I'd put a sheet of veneer there, though on the other I'm also lazy so I'd open the cabinet a dozen times a year, see it, flinch that I didn't finish it better, promise myself that I would, then forget about it until the next time and repeat.
Michael, congratulations on your beautiful work, combined with style, creativity and design. I've been following you on RUclips for a long time. Greetings from Luigi from Italy.
Grazie Luigi! Io amo l'Italia. Ho vissuto a Firenze per 5 mesi. Era fantastico.
Your wife should be so happy. Very good work, I love watching you.
Love your videos man! Been watching for a long time and one day want to have a shop as awesome as yours :)
Congratulations on your marriage!! Nice work on your cabinets; gives me some ideas.
Thank you!! Glad to hear it 👍
Super jealous of that storage space you've made for your kitchen/pantry area! Looks awesome, keep up the great work!
Holy crap, this looks amazing. Definitely inspiring some kitchen ideas for when I eventually make my kitchen custom! Also, I love woodworkers source! I have ordered so much hardwood from them; their monthly sales really get me!
Also, your clamp collection must be massive! I buy myself a couple of nice clamps once or twice a year, but I feel like I still never have enough lol
I like everything about this dude and his stuff, other than the forced chuckles ever minute during the voiceovers. Other than that, keep it up!
So stoked when these come out
Those handles with the ebony splines look slickkkkk. Well done sir, the cabinets look great
Beautiful job!
That looks fantastic!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That looks great, Michael. I know I wouldn't be brave enough to even attempt something like that let alone get that kind of results.
Bill
Your videos are the best!
Fantastic work!
Nice work!
I'm loving everything except the placement of the sheet pan storage.... I'm just over 5 feet tall, and it would be a pain to reach without climbing 😆
We're buying a new home soon and the first thing I'm going to do is make the kitchen 'me size friendly'!😊
It turned out very beautiful!! Love it!
Great project, Michael!
This is definitely going to be a beautiful home! ✊🏾
Beautiful!
That is the coolest kitchen! ❤
Those are beautiful cabinets. Looking forward to seeing the entire build.
It's one of the nicest kitchen built i've seen on youtube.... I really like your design and the execution is flawless. Congrats!
Beautiful work
Looks fantastic. Can’t wait for more videos to see it all come to fruition. Great job
What an upgrade to a kitchen. Awsome
What a beautiful build.
Love this series
Lovely work mate. Looks great! Cheers
Damn, Michael... It turned out incredible! 😮
Fantastic work! Really well done!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Really liked the idea and execution of the drawer pull with the dowels and ebony splines
I did the exact same thing with my Sawstop and miter guage. What a bummer!!!
Stunning! Useful and beautiful, the best combination.
Stunning job 😮
Amazing work mate. That cabinetry is both amazing and beautiful and certainly makes that area so well utilized. Loving the videos on the home renovation
Just a heads up, the 'S' in S3S stands for 'surfaced'. It's labeled that way so you know that you have 3 sides that are parallel and perpendicular.
As I was watching this just now, I saw your table saw had jammed and I was horrified. I'm so glad that you were able to fix it. I'm still getting used to using wood machines. I have a mini table saw and I like it. But I'm still trying to get used to it. I grew up using only hand tools that my father taught me. Mostly carvings though. Love your work. Can't wait to see the results of the rest of the house. Ok, I'm going to go back and finish watching this. :)
Very attractive. Well done!
A lot of work but so worth it it looks stunning
I would love to see the tools you picked up during your visit to Japan!
Beautiful.
It turned out so beautiful! And it looks like the best kitchen I've seen in my entire life xD Amazing work
Awesome work!! It is looking so great!
Thank you!!
Beautiful and functional! I was momentarily confused as to why the sheet pan rack was installed to the top of the cabinet and wondered why the would be easier to reach and then I remembered the fridge going to be living underneath that cabinet - now everything make sense
Excellent job
Great build! This would work perfectly in our RV. Will you offer plans just for the pantry next to the fridge?
wonderful!
Great job with all of this. I want to try the miter box/spline drawer box assembly sometime.
I noticed that you used a light and measuring marks on the cup to measure out the Rubio. At IWF in 2022, a guy at the Rubio booth said they recommend measuring it by weight. I use a food scale and grams, so if I pour 15 grams of A, I zero it out and add 5 grams of B. Works really well and super easy.
contact cement is just because it's easy to do without vaccuum bagging, but there's lots of skateboard vacuum bagging kits that let you just use a shopvac and a hand pump to be able to just use normal wood glue or actual veneer glue, both of which are a lot less toxic than contact cement and generally have a much better looking bond on any exposed edges. I use a kit from Roarockit with a homemade closure (just a v groove caul), evacuate most of the air with the shopvac then make the vaccuum with the hand pump
Unbelievable skill and design!
A big fan of your work from Oman. We love you 😍 and can't wait to watch your next video❤️❤️
Wow Oman! That's awesome. thank you!!
nice job
13:00. The saw should be able to handle braking a dado stack as sawstop do make a dado cartridge so I doubt there will be arbor issues.
