One of the greatest pop songs of all time. It melted my brain the first time I heard it and no one at the record stores could tell me who sang it. I'd sit in Carl's Jr. for hours waiting for it to come up on the tape loop they played. My friends don't understand why I'm so bonkers for it and I don't understand why they're not.
Been years since I've seen him live & he's definitely top of the list! A couple friends of mine & I caught so many Dels shows back in the day that I lost count after 30...
Wonderful song. I first heard in at a McDonald's. No one I asked knew the song or artist. I finally tracked it down today. I love how the band members' voices blend.
A true pop masterpiece like their “Roll To Me” too! Iain Harvie’s melodic guitar riffs add so much, especially during the final chorus after the bridge. Iain Harvie’s guitar contributions were as important to their songs as Justin Currie’s vocals. Very similar to how Eliot Easton’s guitar parts on The Cars songs were a big part of their songs too.
@JustinCurrieFan I'm listening The Great War now in spotify and it sounds fantastic. Thank you, I didn't know that Justin had released a new album :) Regards from Spain
This is the last great rock song of the last milleneum. I noticed it didn't get as many views as I thought. This probably because it sounds like it would have a different name and people don't know what it is.
A great single that apparently never charted anywhere. Overlooked gems often later find a larger audience on YT, but this one has not. I would guess that most who like it are male, because they can identify with the lyrics, while girls and women...just can't, and the majority of pop singles buyers are teenage girls, so that is probably a major reason why it didn't chart.
Why not take the opportunity to look at a much later version of this song. It is from Justins appearance at The Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow with Ryan Quigley Big Band. I am not saying it is better, but it is very different. You find it at my RUclips page JustinCurrieFan.
@legumbro There are some video clips with songs from The Great War available at JustinCurrieFan. I shot them at his live gig in Edinburgh in May. All my (JustinCurrieFan) videos have a Spotify link whenever the song is available in that brilliant "Swedish :-)" application. Thanks for your comment.
@JustinCurrieFan Gee, I hope you aren't saying that the big band version is better. Because it isn't. Not even close. And you are right, it is different.

Still listening to this in 2023.

One of, if not the most, underrated groups of all time. This is real talent and real music!!!
Why wasn't this a massive hit? Great song, great band! This and `Spit in the rain` my 2 favorite Del Amitri tracks.
IMO 'Some other suckers parade' is one of the best 90's albums. Love it.

Actually the best single DA released. Vastly underated song.
Great song and a fantastic recording.
Whenever I'm down on my luck with the girls I listen to this song and everything feels better!
Top band!!

You've got some great DA vids on your channel! :)
Funny thing is, I'm not where its at either... wonderful song.

I hear this song and it reminds me of when I don't have a chance with a girl and this song puts everything into perspective.. :S

Excellent live performance. When was this?

Yes they were great! Listen to Justin Currie's latest, The Great War. It could have been a Dels record.
1997....

Either 1997 or 1998.

@chelobes ? Let me just qoute myself "I am not saying it is better, but it is very different"
I'm not where it's at with girls! Help me out Del Amitri! Lol
He's not where it's at on Facebook. He has a rather demented way of running a page.
