- Today I woke up early for no good reason so I figured why the hell not hit the canyon! Great run today, great sounds from the intake, and only 1 Canyon - Dipshit encountered. Please dont be that guy folks! Share the road. This road has long sweepers as opposed to tight corners, and is blast to drive given the mountain views all around, but gotta at least stay in your lane due to all the bikers out here. Cheers!

The Car is a 10/2002 E46 M3, Steel Grey Over Imola interior. It was originally a SMG car with grey interior, but I 6-speed swapped it along with doing the interior. Performance wise, the car is 100% stock, minus the CSL intake, and the Euro CSL MSS54HP software. The car made 283whp on a Mustang Dyno, and 315whp on a Dyno Jet; On the base CSL Map. It has the stock US catalytic converters still, and a completely stock exhaust, and does NOT have CSL cams (still US Spec). Is sitting on 18x10 Apex Arc-8's all around, and stock suspension with HR springs.
DIP SHIT EXTENDED:
So I was following this asshat in the black truck for about a mile. I quickly caught up to him, and typically people just pull over on the side to let the faster cars continue ahead. NOPE, not THIS guy! Again, followed him for over a mile, and he had every chance to pull off and let me by (you can tell I’m not even trying to keep up with him, he just slow af). Instead of pulling off and letting me by, the dude SPEEDS UP and starts cutting every corner, going into the opposite lane. NOW I realize the degree of his fuckheadness because locals dont cross. If you’ve been on this road before you know this is a Motorcycle HEAVY road. They are often hugging corners while dropping knees and wont have time to react if some dickhead is in their lane with a big ass truck. THEN, as I’m trying to overtake him on the bridge, the douche SPEEDS UP AGAIN! And doesnt let me merge on. So, I pulled up next to him and said “hi”, before taking off . DONT BE THAT GUY!

@@mphIII yes i have a karbonius airbox and supersprnt exhaust with catless headers. it sounds good, especially when you're on it, but this video is absurdly overexaggerated to real life. this vid makes it sound likes hes driving a mclaren f1 or something lol.

Hell yeah brotha! I am running a stock BMW CSL Tune. Drivability is great! Its my daily driver and feels just like a stock car, jut louder and faster lol.

hahaah yes its a bit Ironic I see that now, but staying in your own lane is critical on this road as it has many motorcyclist that come around blind corners, and they wont have time to react if you are in the their lane.

I used to literally hate the E46 chasis and was a die hard E30/36 fan boy, my mom’s mechanic wanted to hook me up on a “red bmw” he had just finished an engine swap on and was looking to sell it since the owner no longer wanted it. I went to go look at it in person and it was so far from what I was expecting, what I didn’t realize at that moment is it was an Imola red ZHP which know that I own the car I realize was the best thing in disguise. This car is insane, Its so nimble and fun. I hope one day I can get the M3 because it has one of the coolest engines bmw has ever made. Sick vid brah!

But I get what you mean, my first was car was an e30, then an e36.. they are very similar to the E46 but the E46 is so much more refined but still very raw.. All great cars. Appreciate you bro! 🤌

It's not that loud in the cabin, the noise inside is just about perfect.

Yes! Youre spot on with placement, Ive showed it in previous videos but for the sake of redundancy didnt show placement on this one (although I do state it in the description); But yeah I have a Zoom Shotgun Mic taped on the Strut tower facing the intake (thats ASMR right? lol). I would agree, in cabin noise is *Perfect*, probably about 80% as loud/raw as the video shows (mine is the 200mm open stack version). Here we have a blend of iPhone cabin audio, and the Zoom mic audio. I have a few videos leading up to this one where I experiment with how to record the intake, its a very difficult and dynamic sound to capture. First video was with an old cell phone I taped in the bay, and was completely overblown. Even with this one, with the Zoom Mic pre-amp turned all the way down to 1.2 (out of 10), I am still experiencing distortion at Full throttle. I have another run planned for next weekend and am going to try slightly different placement.
I know how difficult it is to reproduce the actual in car sound on camera.
I have a Evolve box on mine and absolutely love the sound, I've owned my car from new but only had the carbon airbox on it for 3 years, I should have done it years ago !

Does it sound mostly stock if you're just driving casually? I'm pretty interested in getting one but I wouldn't want it to be that loud all the time. Sounds great though!
Cruising around town its actually pretty quiet! I have a fully stock exhaust so under 3k rpm its really not notaicable... Unless I floor it. Anything under 4k rpm , you get a really nice deep growl, and then it really comes alive passed that, But again only if youre reallly giving it gas. Otherwise its almost silent, even on the highway.

Sounds fantastic. I haven't had much success in capturing that intake sound, I think my exhaust may be too loud.
Yes it is a very dynamic sound, and very hard to capture. On my mic I had the pre-amp almost all the way down (1.5 / 10 ) and still it was peaking throughout. Also, yes the loud exhaust will drown out the intake 100%. I previously had a DNA section 3 exhaust fitted but removed it for the same reason. Went back to stock and loving it with the CSL plenum, keeps me under the radar when cruising too 🚨
What’s crazy is that this change with a air box makes that tinny raspy sound gone and replaced it with a nice growl??
Yes the growl from the Airbox is really deep, the low RPM grunt is amazing! The airbox is louder then the OEM muffler, so more so over powers it, but really does make the exhaust sound a bit better and deeper. To be 100% clear though in the video I have the microphone on the CSL intake, not on the exhaust. Cheers!

@@CrushiChris TO be honest Ive never driven it in the rain, although I know someone that drifts theres in the rain with a CSL box w/ no issues. I think as long as you run a hydroshield over the opening your probably OK.. Just dont go over any deep puddles lol

This is from my mic that’s placed inside the engine bay! I’m cabin it’s probably 60% of what your hearing in the video

Can't afford CSL and don't want to do the custom tune. What's the next closest thing sound wise that doesn't require a tune?
Hmm it depends on the price range! Eventuri makes an awesome intake that sounds great and still allows you to run the stock MAF & no custom tune needed. AFE would be a good cone filter option. But there still a few hundred dollars, and have gone up a little in the used market. If you want to still have the CSL style intake and can spend around 1k, Karbonius just released a OEM replacement carbon fiber "CSL style" airbox, that is a direct drop in and requires no tune.

@@King_Sok No Mine is not OEM, the original airboxes are nearly 10k$, and is just too much money for me to justify (or afford! lol). Mine is the Haimus Airbox and specifically is the race-version. It has very similar carbon thickness to the original Die weithje airboxes, but the Haimus is a full carbon design including trumpets, where as the OEM has plastic trumpets.

@@joshthebavarian I recently started nodding the exhaust and have been debating what I want to do but this makes me just want to go stock, euro cats, and the air box. My goal with the car is just push as much performance as I can and it just sound good. Not obnoxiously loud or annoying and I think this set up is perfect thst you have. Only hard part is spending that 2k.. but all of the exhaust work would be close to they anyway so it pretty much balances out. Appreciate the great video!

English people think American roads are all arrow straight and boring. I've had my M3 a year and found NOWHERE where I live with roads like that.
Most of the US is flat and boring, filled with straight roads only. I however am lucky enough to live close to a small mountain range that is speckled with lots of twisty roads! Cheers mate!
@@joshthebavarian I did the pacific Coast drive from San Francisco working my way down. Those roads were epic. The problem with my fellow English folks is that they've never been to America, let alone driven there. They just repeat what Clarkson says and just says whatever gets the most "likes"
The UK is mostly boring other than some country side, roads though they're usually not that long. The only place similar is the NC500 up in Scotland, 500 miles of scenic routes.
