    Interesting video, had me googling Soloy and Rolls Royce turboprops, made me think of the Merlin engine of WW2 fame when Francis talked about the engine design dating back to the 1940s

    Hi Rich I admire ur flying and I think that ur a hell of a Pilot 2 however in a plane like the Turbine 206 I was expecting a little out of the normal flying like low passes, steep banks and performance take offs but mayB u still got that in store well I surely do Hope so !! At this point in time would we call this a full rebuild on the engine? Or is this an Iran? What would be the best benefits of going turbine instead of the io 520-io 550 motors, I get that that's a little bit faster, but it does burn more fuel, but the fuel is cheaper, the TBO on the engines are they considerably longer? Was this playing a pressurized plane?, Love the video, I think I might actually love this plane too, at least until you get the Kodiak up here

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  2 года назад +1

      It’s an engine overhaul. Overall better performance, longer overhaul interval, generally less maintenance, cheaper more readily available (worldwide) fuel with the turbine engine, 206s are not used as much commercially anymore so this conversion isn’t as common.

    • @williamkennedy2069
      @williamkennedy2069 2 года назад +1

      @@FlyingwithRich yeah but you got to love those big barn doors on the back, he's getting in and out of the backseaters take the seats out a little bunch of crap in there. What's the cruise speed with that? What's the top speed? What was the asking price of that plane?

    • @williamkennedy2069

      @@FlyingwithRich inconsidering Amir's issues with getting insurance on his Kodiak, should he have thus bought a plane like this first to build up hours with a turbo prop prior to getting the big plane? Think I remember the insurance guy saying that they would have liked to have had him have 500 or so hours. So would the better path be and get a plane like this get 500 or so hours and get instrument rated and then get a Kodiak?

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  Год назад +1

      It would have helped for insurance but still expensive relative to the bill value and then he has to deal with another transaction and associated costs. We looked at it but felt better for him to go straight to the Kodiak.

    Does the turbine weigh more than the piston engine that it replaced? I am a total novice.

    • @JMGlider
      @JMGlider 2 года назад +3

      It ways quite a bit less. On this Mark1 (same type I fly) the gearbox does weigh a bit much. There is a Mark2 version which combines the engine and gearbox in the same unit. Jetfuel is 10% heavier than Avgas though, so full up the difference is small. Reason for the turboprop is mainly climb performance and shorter takeoff distance.

    • @danielhawley6817
      @danielhawley6817 2 года назад +1

      I think it's about 1/2 the weight you'll notice it's mounted at least 1ft forward of the piston engine it replaces, thus to keep the center of gravity close to the original.

    • @abdullaal-obaidi833
      @abdullaal-obaidi833 2 года назад

      @@JMGlider That sucks. Do you know why the useful load doesn't increase when putting a more powerful engine? Doesn't it create more power so that gives the ability to carry more, and also maybe since the engine might be slightly lighter than a piston. Or could it be because the structure of the aircraft doesn't handle the weight?
