    The brief moments of laughter/joking that occasionally occur really add personality and fun to videos. Good stuff as always!

    Seems like this could work from a bottom guard position in BJJ, or at least some of the principles would transfer. I'll play around with it next time I'm on the mats. Great stuff like always, sensei! Keep em coming!

      You can do it from standing in BJJ a lot of times.

      Good observation. The foundations of butterfly guard and sumi gaeshi are the same!

      Butterfly guard is just judo from your butt.
      I use this one a lot when someone gets super lazy with a pass and I get a hook in.

    Excellent video as always! I love to set up sumi gaeshi by going in to uchi mata first- uke will défend by stepping back setting up a great position to break their balance straight into sumi gaeshi then we can have lots of options in newaza

    You can also grab the belt instead of the gi material, helps sometimes if you need a more stable grip

    What is the reaction that you look for before going to this style of sumi gaeshi?

    • @isa100kg
      @isa100kg 4 года назад +1

      You don't necessarily need a reaction here but you do want to make sure that your partner's balance is broken enough that you'll be able to throw them. It's all about head and shoulder control!

    Can sumi gaeshi be applied against a double leg takedown ?

      @Matej Hvalec Ok. I already found a video about how to use it against a single-leg.

    I do NOT understand how that throw is supposed to work?
    Momentum? Like Tomoe Nage ?

      Gravity.

      Watch like he's using his right leg to kinda block hers as he goes for the roll - simple detail to prevent her from dropping down/taking a step.

    • @isa100kg
      @isa100kg 4 года назад

      Tori is getting under uke's center of gravity while simultaneously pulling them to the side. This allows for tori's leg to come in and sweep them to that side. There is momentum involved, just like in all judo throws.

    posting your arm like that is a good way to get it broken. I know this is a different throw, but I've seen three people personally have their arms broken by posting to prevent a lat drop in wrestling. I definitely wouldn't recommend that just because of the danger to posting your arm like that. Sure, the great majority of the time you'll stop the throw, but it only takes one to end your grappling career for the rest of your life.

  • @justinbutcher2183

    Not trying to be that guy but you said bring her had to her hip but it must just looks like your trapping the arm from making a post with your arm going over to her back what I'm getting at is why to hip but when I see it being done it's like in the middle of your chest

    In real combat you don't have the luxury of all this bull shit. The only time I pulled this off I had no clue until I realized I was on top. Nobody was wearing a gi. I don't know who had what grab? I don't know who had outside or inside position? I know I'm alive to write this comment.
